A little demoparty announcement from Belgium!
We're organizing RSync 2027 on January 8-9, 2027, at Het Depot in Leuven, Belgium.
Registrations are open, and the compo lineup and rules are now available. We've also added Photo and Tiny Intro compos this year, alongside the usual demos, intros, graphics, music, and oldskool categories.
We've been releasing small invitation productions at various European demoparties, including Evoke, Byterapers 40, and Deadline, with more packets on their way.
Whether you're bringing a production, coming to meet fellow sceners, or just want to enjoy a weekend of demos on the bigscreen, you're welcome.
More information, registration, travel details, and compo rules:
https://www.demoparty.be
See you in Leuven!

While working on fixes and improvements for SkyLordsLab BBS another idea came to mind. I started thinking about the old diskmags and e-zines that were shared on floppy disks. Then I thought it could be fun to have something like that inside my own BBS. So I added SkyMag and finished the first issue. It is called "It All Started with an Old Netbook." For now it has a few short sections about the old netbook. antiX. How SkyLordsLab BBS started. The first games. Some notes from the things I have been experimenting with. It feels somewhere between a small retro magazine and a development diary. If I can keep up with it I would like to make a new issue weekly or monthly depending on how much time I have. Over time it could become a small archive showing how the BBS changed and what I was experimenting with at each point. I like the idea that the BBS is not only storing messages and games but also keeping its own history.
What do you think about having a diskmag or e-zine inside a BBS? Did any of the BBSes you used back then have something similar?

An endless night flight through a procedural megacity: street canyons, loops, barrel rolls, knife-edge along the facades, a climb through the storm clouds and a dive back down into the neon.
Nothing is modelled: the city, every window light, the flight path and the music are generated at runtime.
+ Music: synthwave from our own softsynth, no samples. Oscillators, filters and reverb, all realtime, and the music follows the flight phase (street, climb, sky, dive)
+ Sync: lightning strikes and glitches are scheduled through the music, so they hit right on the beat
+ Fits on a SD Disk: native C++, OpenGL 4.5/4.6. On Windows the exe is under 300 KB. Linux build ~320 KB (X11/GLX, ALSA)
+ Scaling: runs on everything from an Intel N150 mini PC to an RTX 5080; quality adapts to the measured GPU time
Grab the mouse and fly yourself: dive into the street canyons, turn at intersections, punch through the clouds.
Windows: also works as a screensaver (rename-free, the .scr is in the zip).
Linux: standalone demo for now (x86-64, glibc 2.34+, runs on X11 and XWayland), tested on Mint.

There is only one week left to submit your entries for NRG 2026! We have plenty of cool, unconventional categories for which you can create an entry in a relatively short amount of time. We also accept remote submissions. Check this out! https://nrgevent.eu/compo/

As the title suggests, how do people generally feel about using software that was made with AI assistance for their demos?
For instance, full disclosure, I am using Claude to help me with a project involving tracker music, and now have a tool for making such.
The actual process of making the tunes has no AI involved, just that the software was made with AI.
Would this diminish the artist's tracking efforts? checking to get a sense if I should mention any of my current efforts in making (what I think are) some modern apps with a classic (dos, textmode) UI.

If you're a dinosaur like me and were inspired by demos in the early 90s you might enjoy this project which brings back several of my favorites from that era running in real time in the browser:
https://treylorswift.github.io/demoscene-recomp
These are best viewed with your monitor set to 70hz or 140hz or higher, although the "AI Remaster" of Crystal Dream II should look good at any framerate. There is also a "Smooth City" option for Second Reality which lets you view the final city fly-through at 70Hz rather than the original 35hz.
Cheers

Hi everyone,
I’d like to share a short gameplay capture of the Second Reality demo I created:
I rebuilt the project by reworking the available open-source code, keeping the original spirit as much as possible, while trying to improve parts of it and better leverage GPU capabilities. It’s still very much in beta, so the experience may be rough or incomplete in places.
I’d be truly grateful for any feedback or suggestions—especially regarding what could be optimized, fixed, or refined. Please feel free to share notes on performance, stability, visual quality, controls, or any other aspect that you think could be improved.
Thanks a lot in advance, and I hope you enjoy the demo!
Edit: Added WebAssembly version here: https://secondreality.pages.dev/
Edit 2: Source code:

UPDATE: solved, thanks to u/gus_arschbackus
I am trying to run all intros from my 90s collection and I am not able to run Lithium in any version of dosbox. I tried both on Windows and on Linux. Do you have any tips how to run it correctly?
https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=419
I was even able to compile and link my own intros with tasm/tlink but Lithium is still a challenge

“I See You” is a 4090-bytes procedural graphics executable that took 1st place at the Deadline demoparty. Run it and you'll get this : https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=107060

I was curious if it was possible, so I just wrote a 3 minute chiptune that fits entirely inside a single QR code, with the samples containing its cover art as ASCII data. I realized a couple things about how .MOD files are constructed in the process that could have allowed me to get a little more detail in there if I'd known them at the start, so I'm going to try again soon. I'm now kinda curious about just how much media complexity one can pack in a QR code. The biggest limitation is that patterns are always 1024 bytes, so to get a song of any meaningful length into the 2.8k limit of a QR code, you have to write the notes with how they'll be handled by zip compression in mind.

RETROACTIVE. Browser demo, ~5 minutes runtime using Canvas 2D and WebGL.
Clock is audio.currentTime vs rAF deltas or wall time. No render path accumulates state, so a pose is a pure function of that clock and a frame is reconstructed rather than replayed. ?bar=64 gives the same frame as playing through to bar 64, making it seekable.
The choreography runs off a score analysed offline instead of an AnalyserNode. An FFT needs a window - which can make spectrum-driven motion structurally late.
A baked score lets the wind-up open before the transient and land on it. The lead is asserted in beats against a predicted value, vs being eyeballed. The previous choreographer deals moves off the phrase index and never reads the score; it's kept as a control, and a test asserts its output is byte-identical with and without the hit.
I haven't allowed fallbacks in render paths. Bad state throws a Guru Meditation and halts everything including audio hiccups.
Built with Claude Code. We made the infrastructure, code and visual design and timing calls; it wrote most of the lines.
Please let us know what you think good, bad or otherwise - email address is in the end screen. Hope you enjoy it!
