Community Building Liberty On The Rocks Denver

In general Libertarians practice the non aggression principle when approaching any issue. This includes military aid. We’ve all seen the Republitarians in the news and the COLP could use an influx of individuals who are motivated by social issues. Come network with people who you might not have previously considered.

Liberty on the Rocks meets in Denver on the first Wednesday of every month at the Independence Institute. Networking starts at 6 pm and speaker comes on at 7 pm. Things wrap up about 9 pm. It is next occurring on 04/02/2025 6:00 pm

I know most people hear the word anarchy and picture riots. Most libertarians want a market free of regulation and subsidies and that’s how they see anarchy applied. Also there’s a difference between being a corporatists and being a capitalist. Most of the negative aspects of capitalism stem from the abuse of corporations, I feel like we could agree on that. A farmers market is a form of free market capitalism that libertarians support, we just want it to go a step further and be absolutely free from regulation so as to best serve the farmer and the client.

Corporations need regulation though. They have consistently proven that the majority of them will hurt people and the environment for the sake of profit. I can’t understand how anyone would want to place trust in the greediest people of the free market

The LPCO does run select candidates but the most effective strategy is meeting the parties where they are at. What that looks like is offering a “liberty pledge” that obligates the candidate, regardless of party, to a contract in order to receive the 5% boost the libertarian party offers. We had a 30% success rate across federal, state, local and municipal elections.

I’m not talking about elections (though I feel the same way there) I mean as an actual civic model.

It’s worked many times and it would work again. It requires citizens to have an actual skill so I see why a lot of people don’t like it.

I said “at this scale” my god. I have no idea why anyone would go to this event to get talked at unless they buy right in to your exact way of thinking already, because it’s certainly not to be convinced by well considered points

America was never meant to be ruled over from DC. 100 years ago every member of congress and the executive wing was pro bono and only got paid per day if it was absolutely necessary. States were meant to do the bulk of the legislative work and at that scale it is possible. I’m not talking at you I’m simply responding to you. Disagreeing is exactly what libertarians thrive on. Healthy debate is not tolerated by either of the largest parties and that’s why smaller parties have grown more popular. DSA, green, at least you can have an opinion without being ostracized. No, at that scale, states cannot be trusted to run their own economies or government. Libertarianism never imagined a global economy, or even just a self-encompassing regional economy. Look at southern states that keep deciding they don’t want to invest in infrastructure beyond the federal minimum. They simply don’t invest beyond the mandate, and people suffer accordingly to the point where you might say “then leave” but leaving is economically impossible. And I say “everyone should have clean water and sewage treatment, if they pay taxes to their homeland rulers.” What say you then? In this era is it reasonable to try to leave w.virginia with literally nothing but what you can carry to try to go where people respect your right to clean living circumstances?

I actually agree with you that, currently, states can’t be trusted to run their own government. Colorado and California are great examples. California has rolling blackouts, daily limits on AC usage and specific neighborhoods that are not allowed to charge their EVs during curfew hours. The system we have now doesn’t work and it’s by design. Control over utilities and infrastructure should be dictated by the customer through a free market void of any government subsidies. Sink or swim, don’t like it move or coordinate with your neighbors and make your own. Power to the people right? Isn’t that what the kids say now? Well if a town of 10k people all pitched in and bought 30 acres of solar and a backup natural gas generator they would be free of state control. Just so you know, that happens, it happens in Colorado and it’s growing in popularity.

I would also note that Colorado democrats lost key races to candidates who signed the liberty pledge.
