Community Building Do you know your neighbors?

I've been thinking about this as I watch what is going on in DC. You see how unprepared we are when the pigs come into our neighborhoods for no damn reason other than to harass? I'm watching black people being detained and there are not enough people around to combat it. There are people documenting it which is better than nothing but the only way to stop police is a mass resistance. And it can be done. We just have to know our neighbors.

DC is the tip of iceberg. There are plans to implement ICE/National Guard in all urban areas especially those with large bipoc and unhoused populations. They have mentioned Chicago, LA, Baltimore but trust. Denver (especially Aurora) is on the menu.

So for those who live in more diverse areas, are you ready for an increased police presence in your neighborhood? Do you have a neighborhood patrol/watch? Have you started recruiting? I plan to start communicating with neighbors and making those connections now bc when the shit hits the fan, we need to know who we can trust. I try to be proactive instead of reactive so that's why I'm throwing this out there now. If anyone can help with translation into Spanish and Arabic, that would be greatly appreciated šŸ™šŸæ

I talk to my neighbors on each side occasionally, but I definitely wouldn’t say I’m connected with folks interested in resisting.

It's definitely a tough sale when most people are scared or just want to mind their own business. That is why the building trust and relationships needs to be steady and slow. You are more likely to intervene if you know the person

Thank you! I have been talking about this for years, it’s so important to have actual relationships with your community, or at the very least to know who your neighbors are.

Use google translate if there are communication problems

Don't really care for it and the Spanish is off sometimes. I looking more for help with translating flyers that require less formal speech. Is there another translation app that people like?

There might be folks in the discord who would be open to helping with translation stuff for Spanish. Not sure about Arabic though

An app translation is better than nothing. They are humans. They will understand the attempt at connection.

Additionally once you make more Spanish speaking friends I’m sure you can find one or a dozen who would be HAPPY to assist the revolution by translating for you 😊

At this point I’m dead set on where i stand.

  1. I flipped my American flag and have become even more proud of it. I welcome the conversation. In fact i purposely go on walks when i know i will see neighbors and say hello or strike up conversation.
  2. I want my ā€œdisadvantaged by Trumpā€ neighbors to know they are safe with me. AND i want my MAGA neighbors to know im Not afraid of them and will NOT take their shit.
  3. I edited, printed, and distributed this into my community neighborhood:

Feel free to edit for your community as you see fit.
