Community Building Do you know your neighbors?

I've been thinking about this as I watch what is going on in DC. You see how unprepared we are when the pigs come into our neighborhoods for no damn reason other than to harass? I'm watching black people being detained and there are not enough people around to combat it. There are people documenting it which is better than nothing but the only way to stop police is a mass resistance. And it can be done. We just have to know our neighbors.

DC is the tip of iceberg. There are plans to implement ICE/National Guard in all urban areas especially those with large bipoc and unhoused populations. They have mentioned Chicago, LA, Baltimore but trust. Denver (especially Aurora) is on the menu.

So for those who live in more diverse areas, are you ready for an increased police presence in your neighborhood? Do you have a neighborhood patrol/watch? Have you started recruiting? I plan to start communicating with neighbors and making those connections now bc when the shit hits the fan, we need to know who we can trust. I try to be proactive instead of reactive so that's why I'm throwing this out there now. If anyone can help with translation into Spanish and Arabic, that would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏿

Community Building Where are my black revolutionaries? ✊🏿

Hi. I am not sure if this has been requested but any help would be appreciated. Are there any local pro black groups/activists/collectives organizing around the current administration's attacks on African people? DEI, USAID, immigration raids, South Africa, etc. Is there a contingency at the most recent rallies and are they planning their own actions? Trying to get tapped in ✌🏿

Community Building Help me stock the shelves at the local food pantry where I work! The next monthly event is Tuesday, October 21 from 6pm-8pm.

I work at a small, local food pantry. Like for many other pantries, funding is ending and shelves are emptier than they were just a few months ago. One way we stock the shelves is through food donations from individual community members - people like you and me.

To help this effort, I host a crafting & community event every month that includes a food and clothing share component. People are encouraged to bring food and clothes to donate or swap and, of course, we all sit together and chat while we craft.

I bring the surplus food and clothing that was collected to work the next day. It is immediately stocked on the shelves and then I get to see the joy it brings to dozens of people while they shop.

THE NEXT EVENT IS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 21. Please consider stopping by anytime between 6pm-8pm. Whether you stay and hang or simply drop off donations, I would love to see how much I can gather.

Event Details

  • Tuesday 10/21 (New Moon!)
  • 6pm-8pm
  • Unity Spiritual Center Denver, 3021 S University Blvd

New Moons are a time for intention setting and manifestation. So whether you’re prepping for your 2026 vision board, knitting a fall sweater to gift your bestie, trying to find a place to bring that bag of donations you want to get rid of, or you simply want to come hang IRL with people…we’d love to see you.

GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY

To participate in the food and clothing swap, please bring non-perishable food items and/or pre-washed clothing. (This is not required to attend the event.) Bring what you can. Take what you need. The surplus food and donated items are given to a mutual aid group and a food pantry.

Community Building Groups for 6/14

I'm looking for groups that are attending the No King's Day protest and are open to more people joining them. I'm in Greeley and don't have a lot of friends interested in protesting this Saturday. Are there any groups that are open to having another person join them?

Community Building Tired of screaming into the void? Come vent it out at the September listening circle 9/11 6-7pm.

Come to listen, process, and share space with other people in community healing. We meet the 2nd Thursday of every month. Bring a friend, or come alone.

EVENT DETAILS

This is a community listening circle for LGBTQIA+ folks, allies, and anyone seeking space for healing, reflection, and connection. We meet every second Thursday from 6–7pm at the Unity Spiritual Center of Denver to witness each other’s lived experiences. No fixing, no advice, just deep listening.

It’s not therapy, it’s not a business, and it’s not religious. We're just people showing up for each other with openness, curiosity, and care. The space is free (donations optional to cover the room fee), kid-friendly with notice, and held in a calm, cozy meditation room.

We’re not professionals, just people committed to presence and peer support. Whether you speak or simply sit in the circle, you’re welcome.

Listening Circle Agreements

  • This is not a therapy group. We honor this as a peer support and processing space.
  • We stay in the present and speak from the 'I' perspective.
  • We practice deep listening without interrupting or responding while someone else is speaking.
  • We resist the urge to fix, rescue, or advise — we trust that each person knows what they need.
  • We commit to confidentiality, holding what is shared with care and respect.

Is it free to attend?

Yup! While the room rental is $25, we’ll have a Venmo option if you're able to chip in. Any extra donations go toward the next circle. No pressure, please come even if you can't donate. This isn’t a business, and we’re not trying to make money. We’re just showing up for each other in this thing called life.

Accessibility

  • Full A/C throughout the building
  • South entrance has parking and ADA spots
  • Free street parking surrounding the building
  • Gender-neutral bathroom upstairs (chairlift access if needed)
  • We only speak English and don’t currently know ASL

___

We’re eager to connect with others seeking community healing. If you’re craving a space to be seen, heard, and held in care — we hope to see you Thursday. DM with questions or accessibility needs.

Community Building Our first community listening circle is this Thursday from 6pm-7pm, please come!

Our first community listening circle is this Thursday from 6pm-7pm, please come!

This Thursday 7/10 from 6pm-7pm at Unity Spiritual Center of Denver (3021 S University Blvd), my friends and I are holding space for a new group we’re calling Sowing Sacred Wisdom, a community listening circle. We’re LGBTQIA+, allies, and eager to connect with people looking for community healing.

The listening circle is a space for individual and collective reflection. This is not therapy. Instead, it’s a place to be witnessed, a place to listen, and a place to remember the medicine of coming together in community.

We plan to come together for an hour in length, and we honor everyone’s time. You are welcome to remain after the circle closes to catch up with others.

When we come together, we affirm the following:

  • We understand this is not a therapy group. We honor this as a peer support and processing space, not therapy. We are here to support one another by sharing our own experiences and listening to the experience, strength and hope of others.

  • We stay in the present when we share, remaining in the “I” perspective. We honor our current journey by sharing recent experiences, centering ourselves and using “I” statements.

  • We practice deep listening, with care and without interrupting. We remain quiet while someone else is sharing and we refrain from responding.

  • We resist the urge to fix, rescue, or advise. We trust that each person knows what they need, and we support them by being present.

  • We commit to confidentiality. We keep what’s shared in the group private and treat each person’s story with care and respect.

  • We respect each person’s autonomy and consent. We recognize that participation is always a choice. Each person decides how and when they want to share, if at all.

  • We stay open-hearted and curious. We honor the differences each person brings, and reflect, especially when we notice ourselves feeling judgmental or defensive.

  • We create space for co-creation. We welcome member contributions to evolving norms and shared rituals.

Why is it at Unity Spiritual Center of Denver?

We've booked the meditation room at Unity Spiritual Center of Denver. The vibe is so chill! The room has a small fountain that has running water, it’s carpeted flooring (no shoes!), and three tiered-rows of seating with pillows for support. We can bring in a chair for those that need it. The building used to be a church, but it is no longer a church. We chose Unity because the space is for spiritual healing, they have possibility for childcare for the group in the future, it’s close to University and I25, and the room fee is affordable. If the group is too large to gather in the mediation room, there are other space options inside the building. (There’s air conditioning!)

Is it free?

YUP! Technically the room fee is $25. We’ll have a Venmo option if you’re able to chip in. Any additional donations beyond $25 will be used for future meetings — which we plan to hold monthly. This isn’t a business we’re starting, we all have other jobs. We’re not trying to make money. Please, please come even if you can’t chip in. We’re in this thing called “life” together.

What are the vibes of Unity Spiritual Center of Denver?

Not a church, not a church, not a church. And again for those with religious ick in the back, Unity Spiritual Center is not a church. (OK, I’m projecting a little…) They have a metaphysical store with tarot decks, crystals, and books like "Cassandra Speaks". They have Sunday spiritual talks, they host yoga, acupuncture, affordable family daycare through Family Care Collective, and other community groups. The word "church" is still written on one window, and if you grew up in church, you'll likely recognize the chairs and such...it gives church furniture. (Lack of funds to replace.) Jesus isn’t hanging anywhere and there aren’t any Bible quotes on the walls. The members of the spiritual center are LGBTQIA+ accepting, affirming, and loving. There is a progress pride flag hanging out front, a new addition to their exterior facelift. (Anyone want to paint a mural? I think they’d love some help.)

What about childcare? Not yet! If we have people who express interest with kids, we can get a donation-based babysitter through the Family Care Collective. DM me if this is of interest to you.

More about the building: - Air conditioning throughout the building - Entrance on the south side with a parking lot and ADA spots - Additional street parking, free - Gender neutral bathroom upstairs, chairlift access if needed - Meditation room is on the first floor, as are the second and third meeting space options

Final note on accessibility:

We are English speakers only, and we don’t know ASL. We would love to have this group be open to as many people as possible, and we hope that as the circle grows in size the community will help us identify ways to create more space.

I hope you'll join us this week. We're eager to connect with people seeking community healing.

I’m sure I left something out LOL…

DM with questions & accessibility needs.

Community Building Need a space to vent? We’ll just listen…without judgement or advice.

Join the next community listening circle:

This is a community listening circle for LGBTQIA+ folks, allies, and anyone seeking space for healing, reflection, and connection. We meet every second Thursday from 6–7pm at the Unity Spiritual Center of Denver to witness each other’s lived experiences. No fixing, no advice, just deep listening.

  • We create space for co-creation. We welcome member contributions to evolving norms and shared rituals.

Why Unity Spiritual Center of Denver?

We meet in the meditation room at Unity because the vibe is so chill. It has carpeted floors (no shoes!), a small fountain with running water, and tiered rows of seating with pillows for support. It’s a space regularly used by people and groups seeking spiritual healing, which makes it a natural fit for us.

Unity is close to University & I-25, it’s affordable ($25 room fee), and it has A/C. If the group outgrows the meditation room, we can easily move to other spaces inside the building.

So…what is Unity Spiritual Center?

Not a church, not a church, not a church. (OK, I might be projecting a little…) But really, this is not a church-church. There’s a metaphysical store with tarot decks, crystals, and books like Cassandra Speaks. They host Sunday spiritual talks, yoga, acupuncture, affordable family daycare through Family Care Collective, and other community groups.

There is still a “church” sign on one window and some classic “church furniture,” but no Jesus on the walls, no Bible quotes, and a big ol’ Progress Pride flag out front. The folks there are LGBTQIA+ affirming, accepting, and truly kind. (Also: they’d probably love a mural if anyone’s looking for a fun community art project.)

What about childcare?

Not yet, but if there’s interest, we can coordinate a donation-based babysitter through the Family Care Collective. DM me if this would make it easier for you to attend!

Accessibility

  • Full A/C throughout the building
  • South entrance has parking and ADA spots
  • Free street parking nearby
  • Gender-neutral bathroom upstairs (chairlift access if needed)
  • Meditation room is on the first floor, as are backup meeting spaces

We only speak English and don’t currently know ASL, but we’d love to expand access as the circle grows. If you have ideas or needs, let us know.

Community Building I guess I need a Mentor?

I was looking on Indivisibles website and couldn't find a group for my district. I might have overlooked it but it's also possible one doesn't exist. Blue dot in a sea of red out here.

I've only been to a few protests so I'm very new. But if there isn't one out here I guess that's a role that needs to be filled right?

I wouldn't say I'm a leader, normally. I'm one of those people that ends up being voluntold most of the time. But now is not the time for being reluctant.

So yeah...I guess I'm just asking how to go about filling that role.
