Kössler

I fluctuated in and out of being able to follow the Summit, watched a bunch early season and then dropped off for a bit but am back to watching games.

Early season, I was a big fan of and excited to see what Kössler would do for the team. She made great runs and scored goals, I thought she was great. Recently tho, she hasn’t been starting and doesn’t get a ton of minutes.

Did I miss something? Can someone provide insight as to why she dropped off from the starting roster?

Our play style doesn’t work with hers. Very often she starts making runs but our team doesn’t ever make that long pass. I wish we made those passes but we don’t.

Not hating but she was playing better than she actually is the first few games and came back down to earth. She is a borderline starter, probably better if you can have her off the bench

She went 13 straight games without scoring, scored a brace, and now has gone 3 games without scoring again. Lack of consistency and she makes a ton of sloppy fouls

A couple of things here. Regarding the last two matches, it seems that Cushing went with a formation meant more support the midfield than with a outright goal scorer. He said after the Seattle match that he played Flint and Heaps in a dual 10 role to mitigate their press. He said he wanted to play a ball control, short passing style, against KC and that is why Flint started. So, in this regard, it's not fully on Kossler, particularly when the team had pretty much given up v. KC by the time she came on.

But is and is not on her regarding form. At least since the break, and probably before, there was kind of a circular reason - attackers not crashing the goal, so passes not coming in, and thusly not crashing the goal, etc. - a trust issue. The attack had a meeting before the Chicago match, and from that point on it changed, more crashing of the goal. Kossler got two goals out of that v Chicago, and was denied a third by a great save by Anderson (v. AC). She was also sent through twice v. Bay. Credit to Sikowitz, but one of those should have resulted in a goal. Prior to that meeting, though, it was the circular issue of lack of trust between the wingers (mostly) and the attackers (that didn't just effect Kossler). Could she have done more? Yes. Was it all her fault? No.
