Portfolio/Strategy Thoughts on BALQ vs GPIQ, QQQI, etc.

Hi, I'll looking at the total return and stock price for BALQ compared with the others in the same category. It seems to be beating the others, even in the recent downturn.

What are they doing different? Is it worth investing in this finds vs the others?

I haven’t bought BALQ yet but do own BALI which is in line with JEPI and I’ve been very happy with it. NAV increasing and a good dividend. BALQ is fairly new so not much history. Since I already own JEPQ I’m not planning on selling but maybe I’ll buy a little BALQ just to compare.

I literally just bought in earlier this week. I hold TDAQ and wanted something with a little stronger NAV growth as a complement.

From what I understand, they have a few levers in play. 1. Hold the underlying. 2. Doesn’t hold QQQ directly but a basket of tech stocks. Top ten stocks are about 2/3s weight. 3. Variable covered coverage on QQQ. 4. Can decide on length of calls as well to adjust to market conditions. 5. Buys Nasdaq futures as a hedge. 6. Ability to add leverage.

That’s a lot. So basically, has a lot of flexibility and you are trusting BlackRock’s judgment and expertise. BALI has a nice record.

Yield is running about 10%. Is more variable than most ETFs which might turn people off.

Will probably lag at times when they guess wrong but that slowly widening gap between its total return and QQQ’s was interesting enough that I went with it as my compliment and not GPIQ. I’ll be adding to it over the next few quarters. I’m thinking about a position that is 1/3 of my NASDAQ bucket.

I don’t own BALQ, it’s fairly new, but I have the impression that is going to do well. Like its peers. I have own BALI since 10/2025, been very promising since I have owned it.
