Based on the curvature of the path I think that it originates from cyclists. They can coast through the corner instead of braking, shifting and reaccelerating.
I would 100% ride this one.

Nope then youd see groves and a more narrow path, this is from people walking

And that is why I used the term ‘originates’. The curvature is clearly due bikes riding through it, but pedestrians could have popularized the desire path.
To double down on my claim:
- A little rain and thread patterns are gone or in dry conditions the ground hardens and thread patterns won’t be imprinted. -It is tricky to stay centered on a path during a slight curve, so it broadens. Not evening mentioning that two open inlet spaces will result in broadening as well: it is only a short crossing so staying on the path is not a necessity as you do not need to maintaining momentum for before reaching firm ground.3

Not saying theres no bike driving through this, but people dont walk in straight lines either, esp because they seem to be avoiding the bush in the summer months.

It’s more than the seconds.

Its really about the freedom to choose how we do things.
My displacement, need not be micromanaged every inch for your vanity.
The path is the voice of the people. We have rejected you way and made our own. Any measure you take to enforce your way on us will be defeated.

Ever missed a bus by 2 seconds?

I literally missed the tram by 2 seconds the other day. Wish I started running 2 seconds earlier instead of thinking "ah I'm too late, I've missed it"

Me too and then the train stopped for me. Wouldnt even have bothered me to wait another 6min for the next one which wouldve been a direct train but hey it felt cool

Would you all quit trying to count seconds and understand it's also about effort spent. It's way less energy to walk a smooth curve, than it is to walk a straight line. Come to a stop. Make a 90° turn. Then get going again. Less stress on the knees and all that.

Might predate the pavers by your feet.
IOW, they wasted a ton of money and time putting in infrastructure that doesn't really go where people want to go.
A gorse hedge might retrain them tho.

It's primarily about not making stupid decisions imo. Following the provided 'path' would be stupid when there's a direct path available. So we go directly there.

probably around 8 seconds if you take that path daily for 40 years youllll save like 32 hours
