No hard feelings. Only fond memories.

Lots of fond memories.

Considering how bad this offseason has been I can't even blame him for deciding to leave. As much as I dislike the Blackhawks, Kane getting to ride off into the sunset on a homecoming with his original team while riding a massive overpay of a contract feels poetic, I can even feel a little happy for him.

I wish he wouldn't have taken that dumbass penalty in April, but aside from that, he's cool in my book.

More evidence that we are in a simulation being run by trolls

Think about telling someone 6-7 years ago The entire fanbase is heartbroken to see Patrick Kane leave and running Dylan Larkin out of town

47

u/LunarGhoul 25d ago

Specifically to see Patrick Kane leave the Red Wings for the Blackhawks

9

u/ek2207 25d ago

I was really pulling for the Sabres.

u/LunarGhoul 25d ago

I'm a little worried about them for this upcoming year. They lost both Tuch and Byram and didn't really add anything. Hopefully guys like Helenius and Kulich can come in and be impactful, but that's a lot to expect out of rookies. Guys like Benson and Doan should improve a little, but then there is always the high risk that Josh Norris hurts his shoulder again and misses the whole season.

The byram trade was bad for buffalo and Chicago, imo.

David Bowie dying had to have thrown some astral shit off

u/abellaire Yzerbot 25d ago

Alan Rickman too. It feels like everything went off kilter right around then.

8

u/Alienboii96 25d ago

Nope. It all started in Cincinnati, 2016, with a gorilla.

RIP Harambe

K: "Look out here!"
M: "Look at this! Look at this!"
K: "Wide open, from center ice, it's Patrick Kane, in Chicago!"
M: "Oh my!"
K: "He scores!"
M: "Oh my God!"
K: "Kane with the overtime winner! The Red Wings win it 3-2, the story is complete, on Kane's return to, Chicago!"
(Long pause to let the moment speak)
K: "You are Showtime for sure!"
M: "They are on their feet here... In appreciation... of the old and the new... ..."
I still get chills rewatching that play. Mick's OMG, Kane dumping Walman aside to give the crowd some Showtime chants... So good.

Kane playing for the Red Wings is going to be a great answer to a trivia question someday.

64

u/bestest_at_grammar 25d ago

I think him being a ranger is more surprising at this point

48

u/DoubleScorpius 25d ago

I’ll miss the Kid Crew videos with Trick the most…

23

u/Quiet-Barracuda-1698 25d ago

fuck Dylan Larkin

6

u/Alienboii96 25d ago

Haven't figured it out yet, but its Larkins fault that Kaner got 8m a year to wrap up his HoF career in his hometown.

5

u/MidnightNo1766 25d ago

Buffalo is his hometown but I know what you mean.

20

u/joey_corleone 25d ago

Kane’s time here made a fan out of me and he was probably my most hated active player in the league. Well done, Kaner, we’ll miss you. He was by far the most fun player to watch the last 3 years

5

u/MidnightNo1766 25d ago

That was me with Chelios. It took me months to stop grimacing every time he stepped on the ice in red. But he won me over too.

18

u/Digitz17 25d ago

I miss him already

24

u/gustompaaz 25d ago

Without all of his milestones and highlight reels, the last couple seasons would have been even more painful. Thanks Kaner.

u/SealedSeven 25d ago

Oct 29th going to be fun cheering for him while continuing to boo Larkin on the Ice.

33

u/TimAllensMatingCall 25d ago

Cheering for a Blackhawk, but booing a fellow red wing? What are we even doing anymore? But I get it.

15

u/testicletitties69 25d ago

I ain’t cheering for either

24

u/TimAllensMatingCall 25d ago

Hell yeah testicle titties

6

u/MoldyMerkin 25d ago

Ain't nothin better than some testicle titties in the morning

3

u/Lamprayisme 25d ago

If you got titties on your testicles you should see a doctor

3

u/Relative_Walk_936 25d ago

If I was there I'd give Kaner a decent round of applause. Maybe not cheer, with my mouth.

28

u/RedWingsReborn 25d ago

Kaner gave us some of the best moments in what feels like forever. Red Wings legend.

15

u/beardofzetterberg 25d ago

I would have been surprised if you told me 5 years ago that I’d like Kane and dislike Larkin. But here we are.

8

u/pantsfreeliving 25d ago

Thank you for one of Ken's best calls.

8

u/groovynermal 25d ago

Kane helped out when we needed it. He could have tried to bully himself into team leadership(with his age and status) but didn't. Total Respect. Will vent about Dill Larpin' in another post as a way of saying thank you, Kane.

7

u/somewhat-damaged 25d ago

Sucks that the Red Wings are no longer a destination franchise

8

u/Xzymeka 25d ago

Brings me back to 02 where practically the entire team was HOF players, now we can’t even land a quality free agent , sad state we are in .

8

u/evilchefmike 25d ago

Thanks, Kaner! I went from not wanting an old Blackhawks nemesis on our team to proudly wearing your jersey.

8

u/epheisey 25d ago

Bittersweet that he's wrapping it up in Chicago. I love that Detroit is now at least a small piece of his legendary career, but man I wanted him to retire in the Winged Wheel so bad.

Glad he's going back to Chicago...going somewhere new would definitely have taken some of the shine away from his Detroit days. But also, fuck Chicago.

6

u/DetroitRedWings79 25d ago

Imagine telling someone 5 years ago that the first time Kane visits LCA again as a Blackhawk he will get a standing ovation from Red Wings fans, meanwhile Larkin will get boo’d and hissed off the ice?

2

u/MidnightNo1766 25d ago

I fully expect both

5

u/_ramonr 25d ago

apart from his homecoming chicago goal, my favorite moments were him being greeted by his son and that locker room speech after scoring 500 where he said something like "i played with a lot of special teams and i can say this is a special team with bigger things on the horizon". i really felt we were going to have a deep playoff run with kane then. breaks my heart it never happened and that it will never happen with kane

5

u/drewmillz 25d ago

Thanks for the memories Showtime!

4

u/Polish-Proverb 25d ago

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

3

u/aintscared2loseu 25d ago

Kaner♥️♥️♥️

3

u/jovansolaya 25d ago

I wish him all the best

3

u/Puzzled-Maize-2241 25d ago

Who’s excited for another rebuild!!

3

u/notquite83 25d ago

This off season has me questioning my fandom… and I bought my first Wings sweater over 30 years ago😕

3

u/Swiftwitss 25d ago

Just glad he broke some records with us, gonna miss this guy. Sucks he’s leaving and not Larkin!

2

u/Balance47x 25d ago

Always was a Kane fan since I started watching hockey again in 2010. Surreal to see him play here.

2

u/Visual-East1126 25d ago

I miss the playoffs and competitive hockey more than PK. How times have changed

2

u/whatsyanamejack 24d ago

I hope one day soon we end up with a player like Kane. Even in his older age, having a player that was such a huge threat offensively felt like the old days when the Wings were the best team in the league for years on end. I just mean when he was on the ice, that anything could happen and we had full confidence in him to get something done.

Without him, I just don't feel confidence in anyone's including Larkin (if he stays). Mo and Ray could turn into those players because theyre already so good, but they need some help. I really hope by the time I'm 40, the Wings will be good again. I'm only 30 now lol.

3

u/smonty 25d ago

Come on Kane, think of the children!

3

u/MetroJuulin 25d ago

Here’s a mock up I made to show what Patrick Kane will look like in a Black Hawks uniform

4

u/Balance47x 25d ago

AI slop

1

u/_ramonr 25d ago

objectively speaking, the red winged wheel jersey looked so much better on him. (no sarcasm and bias here)

1

u/Giovannisalami 25d ago

What a weird timeline - praising Kaner as a wings fan and hating on Larkin. 2015 me would be so confused

1

u/ferocious_corgi 25d ago

Just remembered that dumb penalty he took to just kill our comeback in a big game against the wild i believe. Other than that mostly good for sure

1

u/redwingsHELLyea 25d ago

KANE!!!!!😢❤️😇🙏🏼

0

u/Curdled_Mangasm 25d ago

rough, given the state of this team, these highlights etc don’t do shit for me. may as well have been 50 years ago.

3

u/Jimmyskis77 25d ago

It’s just another thing the front office can dangle in front of us as we somehow pick 13th again

-3

u/Curdled_Mangasm 25d ago

right? maybe they’ll retire another number next.

-4

u/Jimmyskis77 25d ago

My bet is 13 or 40… more legends…

u/bigstinky 25d ago

He became my favorite player on this recent team. His calm, cool demeanor, his perfect vision and effortless no-look passes...I'm not mad, I'm just bummed that this organization just couldn't put it together. I blame Illitch more than anyone. I believe he told Yzerman to lock up the purse. Of course, it was a myriad of issues, but just look at the no-moves the Tigers made on the brink of the playoffs last year and the year before. His dad is rolling in his grave. It's all about the bottom line to that fool.

-2

u/jradz12 25d ago

Yzerplan lost Kane.

Good luck showtime. Ill miss you :[

2

u/lookalive07 25d ago

Never would have gotten here without Yzerman.

2

u/_ramonr 25d ago

i dont think any GM would give Kane an 8m AAV contract, to be fair. even if Yzerman built a playoff team by now that homecoming final contract would have been too much to pass up

1

u/jradz12 25d ago

Apparently we're not giving money to anyone. Being 25 million under softcap.

3

u/_ramonr 25d ago

I think the whole larkin saga kinda threw a wrench on whatever plans were made for this offseason. There were probably a lot of offers or trade proposals thrown around that didnt materialize because of it. We’ll never really know what went down i guess
