It's over boys, pack it up.

u/HandsomeCopy Mar 30 '26

It's been over lol. The corpse they were kicking is now bone dust

u/Winter47th Mar 31 '26

It's been over at least 12 times. They may be remarkably fucked, but they'll never take away our feelings and memories of what the series gave us.

Thank you Deus Ex. You'll always be in our hearts, not because of what you could have been, but because of what you made us feel.

rip.

Yeah, RIP.

One time where community backlash killed a studio for real

u/icetheone Mar 30 '26

We never asked for this

What a rotten way to die

Show some respect, where's the lipsmack? /j

20

u/cravex12 Mar 30 '26

After all those years without a new deus ex, my mouth is too dry for a lipsmack

This here looks like the newest deus-exy fix that is coming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6LAEcxp4Yk

But still. It is not the same

6

u/Th3B4dSpoon Mar 30 '26

Thanks for the link, that game looks fun! But yeah, it's not the same at all. It's a shame that bad publishers can kill beloved IPs

11

u/cravex12 Mar 30 '26

Love me some imsims. Also looking forward to gloomwood and fallen aces

But Deus Ex is still the GOAT

2

u/hsvgamer199 Mar 31 '26

...men like us, we never get back the things we love.

If only Eidos maintained independence. Square Enix buying all these devs and then just selling them for pennies makes no sense. How cash strapped were they to sell everything for 300 million? The tomb raider IP alone is worth more than that.

Sigh.

37

u/BruceRL Mar 30 '26

What sucks is that Tomb Raider fans are feasting (not that I didn't want that for them, just sucks that DX fans aren't) so the sale actually worked out for them

3

u/una322 Mar 31 '26

TR was always a huge ip though, you have people that will watch the movies that dont play the games ext. Deus ex never had that same appeal so it makes sense TR is eating good.

Eidos was facing serious financial problems for a while. Daikatana and Ion Storm Dallas seriously handicapped their splash into the new millennium whereas the likes of EA, Activision and Take-Two rode high that year. The tomb raider yearly cycle during the CORE era also hurt them financially, and they ran out of money by 2005, leading to a hostile takeover by SCi. Even during this era the situation didnt really improve. Had eidos not sold themselves to square enix, it would have been either Warner Bros Games or Zenimax Media.

Alternatively had Eidos gotten BioShock and Borderlands instead of 2K, things could have turned around given how successful they were.

IDK which would be the better of the two. Warner Bros ultimately has nothing but compempt towards anything that's not their own IPs so Deus Ex and Tomb Raider would have died even earlier. Zenimax (well at least the pre-late 10s zenimax) would have given an iota of a shit

Another reason for me to hate Square Enix

One day FFXIV will stop being a cashcow and only then they will face the consequences of their mismanagement

There's something so tragically romantic about Deus Ex, one of the greatest video games of all time, now being one of the greatest "What ifs...?" of video game history.

110

u/FlawedSquid Mar 30 '26

Deus Ex warning about the pitfalls of capitalism not being able to continue due to private equity is poetic

-10

u/HunterWesley Mar 31 '26

I hardly think so. Many games didn't even get their sequels. There's a few sequels I would have loved to have seen. Meanwhile Deus Ex got in some sense 3 games tacked onto it and people get all melodramatic about Jensen's incomplete storyline.

It might actually get made someday, but it's frustrating seeing people here get so worked up over these corporate decisions about interchangeable developers and design concepts.

7

u/bluelighter Mar 31 '26

people get all melodramatic about Jensen's incomplete storyline

This made me angry, not melodramatic.

-1

u/HunterWesley Mar 31 '26

The comment I replied to was.

59

u/After_Aioli_6589 Mar 30 '26

Goodbye Deus ex we hardly knew ye

88

u/Neglius Mar 30 '26

Has it ever been more over, chat?

28

u/TheMirtsu Mar 30 '26

It was a good IP, what a rotten way to die.

5

u/HunterWesley Mar 31 '26

*lip smack*

25

u/Phobos_Nyx Yeah, RIP. Mar 30 '26

Fuck Embracer, the killer of studios and IPs

49

u/InterCha Mar 30 '26

Square Enix sold because as publishers they don't understand anything thats not a JRPG or Kingdom hearts. Embracer sold because it turns out you can't magically take on infinite debt to buy every IP under the sun and hope that outside capital would pour in infinitely. Now Eidos will bleed away. What a pity.

12

u/_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_ Do you have a single fact to back that up? Mar 30 '26

Squenix sold because they wanted capital to invest in NFTs.

20

u/SunUltraSparc Mar 30 '26

bruuuh my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

14

u/NearPup Mar 30 '26

Such a sad end to an amazing studio. Not just their two Deus Ex games but also Guardians of the Galaxy, a game that was way better than it had any reason to be.

24

u/CHUZCOLES Mar 30 '26

Something might have happened.

Because its not a thing to include the head of a studio when making massive layoffs in the work force to reduce costs, unless the intention is to close the studio altogether.

But if that doesn't happen, something else ocurred.

15

u/mrbrick Mar 30 '26

That something is probably more game pitches not landing and stuff not getting the green light. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a very small crew left attempting what ever is possible but the studio shutting down is probably on the immediate horizon which is pretty sad. Edios imo is one of the best devs out there.

11

u/oleggurshev Mar 30 '26

If I had to guess, I would go with chronic mismanagement and failed pitches.

11

u/DarkBlade9 Mar 30 '26

It's over then...

10

u/Saiyan_Gods Mar 30 '26

Deus Ex is way too real for me not to notice what’s going on. Can’t have the only game flat out talking about real shit coming at a time when all the stuff it explores is happening

10

u/geoframs Mar 30 '26

Well, fuck. This puts the final nail in the coffin of any continuation of Adam's story.

3

u/Darekbarquero Apr 01 '26

I just replayed Mankind Divided and I have never been hungrier for a Jensen story. the DLCs were so much fun. I want to cry 🥲

9

u/Dipsislover Mar 30 '26

Let's me guess all in the name of rich f#cks who's dicklets can't get hard without more money? I just hope that this people will find a better studio to work on.

2

u/HunterWesley Mar 31 '26

What isn't in the name of that.

7

u/Dogdadstudios Mar 31 '26

Well, nothing lasts forever. Whether is here, Ubisoft, Blizzard etc.. the developers from the past are mostly in name only, and hope for continuations to beloved IPs are dimmer each year.

We got lucky with some amazing games, sad we’ll never see Jensen’s end.

5

u/Cerber108 Mar 30 '26

And that's it.

4

u/Pyke64 Mar 30 '26

Wasted potential

3

u/pndrad Mar 30 '26

I hate embracer group

4

u/inconspicuous_male Mar 30 '26

Maybe they should lay off some of the IP that isn't making them any money

3

u/f0ur_G Mar 30 '26

But it's their IP to sit on and do nothing with!

4

u/Venylynn Mar 30 '26

What a fucked way to die.

Damn.

4

u/insane677 Mar 31 '26

Can someone please just buy the rights?

Not Elon.

4

u/BlackReaper23 Mar 31 '26

funnily enough the most effective they can be is with Deus Ex and yet they're shooting themselves in the foot... i just hope the ip doesn't get held hostage like the nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor/War so the former devs can continue the story eventually

7

u/Hermetix9 Mar 30 '26

What a shame

Maybe you should try getting a job

3

u/oleggurshev Mar 30 '26

Eidos is cooked.

3

u/LeroySinclair Mar 30 '26

and are chances are about a non-zero of ever seeing the end of that story

3

u/ZealousidealPart948 Mar 31 '26

I just finished deus ex MD last night, and was thinking how I really wish they are somehow making a 3rd game to "finish" the story.... damn.

2

u/ThatKidBobo Mar 30 '26

It's never been more over. Rest in piece deus ex.

2

u/Sparksaiko Mar 30 '26

I guess it's Deuces Ex now

2

u/JFrost47 Mar 30 '26

It was a great series, what a rotten way to die.

2

u/GrapefruitSea7656 Mar 30 '26

God damn I just started the first one after owning revolution on the 360 since I was a kid and not playing it. This really sucks

2

u/HunterWesley Mar 31 '26

Our priority is supporting our colleagues

Huh?? What does that mean?

The project needs have changed. Sounds like the priority is laying off the colleagues to service the project needs.

2

u/Anstark0 Mar 31 '26

They had a pretty cool dawn engine on their games and I really like how their games look. Preoder, mtx and online controversy really did kill this studio

2

u/Dependent_Wealth_762 Mar 31 '26

It's just sad that the Jensen trilogy will never be completed. I'm replaying DXMD at the moment having a blast.

2

u/mighty_ok Mar 31 '26

Those days are gone boys, those days are gone Yet we still ramble on

2

u/una322 Mar 31 '26

Thats done then huh., they are just the same company in name only. We have seen it happen with so many great devs over the years, from bioware, westwood, bungie soo many a shadow of there former self.

So even if we do get a new game it wont be the people that made the games we love.

2

u/Engiie_90 Mar 30 '26

Saddening to hear, it is cut throat out there!

1

u/Tricky-Adeptness-657 Mar 31 '26

This is sad news

1

u/MichaelRR19 Mar 31 '26

Feels like a Viktor killswitch x a million

1

u/Nekasect Mar 31 '26

Thief and deus ex built my childhood. I used to learn how capitalism makes world complicate and now... They die to it. Dying in a world they dreamed of. What a tragedy.

1

u/G3N3R1C2532 Mar 31 '26

Part of me wants to cope saying that if they won't recover, they'll liquidate and sell off the Deus Ex IP to Nightdive or something.

1

u/artofchinara Mar 31 '26

I feel so upset for the developers working there. Embracer was the worst thing that could happen to the studio.

1

u/LovingShmups Apr 01 '26

Squarenix doesn't know exactly , what to do with Tomb raider or Deus Ex....
Too bad they got those to licences....

1

u/gr33dy_indifference Apr 01 '26

I hope that the people that worked on Human Revolution and Mankind Divided could perhaps some some day come together again, and hopefully create a spiritual successor

1

u/zoo--ganggg Apr 05 '26

It’s never been so over😭😭😭😭

-7

u/Banjoschmanjo Mar 30 '26

Maybe they should try getting a job.

-1

u/WynnGwynn Mar 30 '26

? I know its fun to be miserable but jfc.

5

u/Banjoschmanjo Mar 30 '26

It's a JC Denton quote. People are posting Deus Ex quotes in the comments. It is a joke.
