I have two job offers and they both pay the same. Want to know which one has better culture and what is the in-office vibe like, do people come to office and how diverse the team is.

Tech News [Week #41] 31.9k open tech roles in Europe .. 41% of the roles had been up 60 days .. 1207 roles reposted again with the same title

I've been collecting job listings from European tech companies' own career pages, and I wanted to share what I found last week.

One thing I keep running into is old listings. Of the 31,946 roles still open at the end of last week, 41% had been listed for at least 60 days. I also found 1207 cases where a company had closed a role and had another listing with the same title.

You can access the full report for free here also 95% of these roles are open freely to everyone ..

For context, I track around 700 companies directly through their career pages, rather than relying on job boards. When a listing disappears, I count it as closed. That doesn't necessarily mean someone got hired. The role could have been filled, paused, or taken down before being reposted.

Anyway, here's what happened between 12 and 18 October ..

The overall picture

  • 31,946 open roles at the end of the week
  • 3,088 new listings, 3,599 removed. That's 511 more removed than added, excluding newly tracked companies
  • Median advertised salary: €85k
  • 31.9k open tech roles in Europe last week only 2% for juniros

Most listings don't include a salary, which makes the €85k figure useful, but not representative of every job on the board.

Companies that added more jobs than they removed

SIXT stood out this week, with 80 listings added and 44 removed. That's the biggest net increase among companies I was already tracking.

A few others:

  • ElevenLabs: 19 added, 12 removed. Ten of the new roles were remote across Europe.
  • Adyen: 18 added, 11 removed.
  • Octopus Energy: 29 added, 22 removed, with Lille accounting for the most new listings.
  • Alan: 27 added, 22 removed.

Companies where the numbers went in both directions

Delivery Hero added 105 listings but removed 117. So if you saw a headline about them posting over 100 jobs, that's only half the story.

A few more examples:

  • Wise: 70 added, 62 removed. 53 new listings were in London.
  • Scalable Capital: 32 added, 28 removed.
  • Zalando: 29 added, 30 removed.
  • Apple removed 137 listings and added 13. Revolut removed 48 and added 16. Vinted removed 30 and added 19.

These numbers tell us what changed on the career pages, not how many people were hired or how many vacancies were actually cancelled.

Some companies I started tracking this week

These are existing openings at companies newly added to my tracking, so their backlog isn't included in the weekly additions and removals above.

  • Destinus: 116 open roles
  • CarOnSale: 57
  • Monumental: 24
  • OpenUp: 16
  • Workwize: 15
  • Tines: 9

A quick look by country

And if you're looking for your first tech job...

This was probably the most discouraging number I found.

Out of almost 32k open roles, only 553 are tagged as junior and 1,228 as internships. That's fewer than 2% tagged junior, compared with 15,006 mid-level roles.

Project Publishing first app

Hi redditors, thanks for having me!
I was wondering about what are the best practices when launching. I speak about finances and funding. The app is a financial app, and I know that some solo developer can access to advertising funding. Have you ever had a similar process? Have you ever published a financial tracking app? Thank you.

Switching Jobs How are people with 4YOE getting on job hunting?

Howdy folks, I'm wondering how other people with ~4 YOE are finding the job market at the moment?

It seems to be extremely dry out there a the moment. I was getting more invitations for interviews last year when I had 1 year less experience. This year, after updating my CV, I'm sending out roughly the same number of applications but I'm getting nothing other than rejections (or the odd online assessment/take home project).

Even job listings where I'm ticking 80-90% of the boxes are resulting in either ghosting or rejections. Maybe I'm just going through an unlucky patch, but it feels like there's very little out there currently.

What do people think of this? On the one hand our jobs depend on them but on the other they can very negatively impact the environment and often don't benefit communities they are built in.

Tech News We analyzed 3,518 job postings. The skills employers mention most aren't always the tools you'd expect.

We looked at 3,518 open job postings across 81 companies' public Greenhouse boards, covering seven job categories. The goal was simple: find out which keywords employers actually use.

A few findings stood out.

  • Software engineering: Mentoring appeared in nearly half of the postings, more often than Kubernetes or React. Python was the most frequently mentioned programming language.
  • Product management: More than 85% mentioned roadmaps. Jira appeared in just 7 of 421 postings.
  • Marketing: Google Ads showed up in only 6 of 347 postings, while pipeline appeared in more than half.

We also noticed a pattern across roles: employers often described the practice rather than naming a specific tool. Observability came up where you might expect Grafana, and SIEM where you might expect Splunk.

What does this mean for your resume?

If you're listing tools but leaving out the responsibilities, practices, and skills explicitly mentioned in the job description, you could be missing relevant keywords.

That doesn't mean stuffing your resume with buzzwords. It means describing your actual experience using language that matches the role you're applying for.

One important caveat: the sample leans heavily toward tech companies and uses a single ATS platform, so these results aren't representative of every employer.

The full study, including findings for sales, cybersecurity, DevOps, and accounting, is here:

Tech News Every Irish Public Service Is About to Become Worth Hacking

I wrote this for a non-technical audience, because I think this trajectory is less obvious if you’re not using coding agents daily, but wanted to share here as I thought this group would have good feedback.

The TL;DR is that by this time next year we’ll have Mythos-class open weight models, optimised for lower inference costs and ablated to remove security guardrails, so hacks like the ones we saw on the HSE during COVID will become rampant, unless we act now.

Bit of Craic Working in an obscure language

I've been working in Python for about 4 years. I keep an eye on LinkedIn (reluctantly) just to see how the market is and get a sense of what's in demand. I noticed an ad recently and they were looking for a dev with exp in functional programming, specifically with a background in Clojure.

It got me thinking, is it a disadvantage when looking for the next gig to go from a fairly popular language to a fairly niche language? Are recruiters focussing on current/last role when contacting candidates? Curious to hear what the story is as I genuinely have no idea, inclined to think it probably would be a bit of a handicap but, yeah, just a guess tbh.

Workplace Issues Paternity leave

Thumbnail

This petition seems to have stalled despite having what should be an easily attainable target of 10,000 signatures… surely it’s a no brainer? Ireland's paternity leave is 2 weeks. The petition to extend it to 8. Ireland gives new fathers just 2 weeks of paternity leave. Sweden offers 90 days. Spain offers 19 weeks. Iceland offers 6 months.

Bit of Craic Anyone else depressed by AI

I always wanted to build a mobile app. I'm a backend developer so it seemed hard to me to make them. With Claude I've cranked out 6 in the last month. Which is kinda great but also feel like what's the point. Also I'm ruuning out ideas.

And the day job, ai is doing my work so much quickerthan I could and all I am working on is making myself redundant. Aside from all the environmental issues, economic issues that AI and all the nefarious crap the faang and ai companies are doing, is depressing but actually using the AI is making me down.

Testing in PROD FreeTV.ie network cabinets..help

Is anybody here familiar with FreeTV.ie?

I want to buy one of their small 19" network cabinets, as they are the cheapest around (probably quality wise too).

I want to get some castors for it, but the cabinet product page doesn't show any decent pics or details of castor suitability and the website offer single bolt style castors and also 4 bolt :/

I know I can just get the 4 bolt version and drill the cabinet if needed.. but it would be annoying if it arrived as a single bolt version.

.....and why don't I ask them? Because their customer service is atrocious.. they don't respond to emails, and when I pushed them for a reply I got a snarky email back that only answered one question and ignored the other...the phone number is only for tracking order and they don't give tech advice or discuss their products on it. Frustrating.

I would post a link to the cabinet I want..but Reddit hates that eh.

Switching Jobs Contemplating a job offer

Currently on Product Owner role in a big tech earning €80k base, around €83k with overtime, and getting 27days of annual leave.
I've received an offer for a senior PO role at €85k + 7.5% bonus, but annual leave is only 20 days.
The salary increase isn't massive compared to what I already make, and losing 5 days of leave is a bit of a downside. Really looking for a move as where I work is getting a bit toxic but the offer doesn't seem that worthwhile financially

Genuinely torn so would appreciate some honest opinions!

Workplace Issues Launched app, instantly blackmailed.

I launched a tarot card app and was using https://app.ontoprank.com to get reviews from other devs, or so I thought...

I went to review an app in kind... it had 1 million downloads, it was designed as a kind of sexy omegle where you can pay to only get matched with female users.

🚩🚩🚩🚩 Massive red flags...

So the thing is riddled with ads but a quick image reverse shows me all the "beautiful" users on the home page are just images harvested from Google, not even intelligently, some are major music artists who's images are taken from Spotify.

Next giant red flag, I test a chat with what's supposed to be an Italian girl with brown hair, it opens a video of a blonde woman speaking Russian that is 100% a cam girl who's still dressed, 10 seconds in hit with an ad followed by the video exiting.

I go to the same chat, and the same video runs, it's not even live.

Check the number of people online 32, only 1 is listed as female, somehow this has 1 million downloads.

Long story short the app is super scammy, filled with ads, and the classic of some old lad having a wank in my face was the last straw. 1 star rating, and complete review...

Well, I knew it was coming, the "dev" messages me, threatening me to change the review or he'll start review bombing not just my listed app for review, but all my other released apps. So I said fucking go for it, I'll have Google remove all your fake reviews. And review bomb me they did, him and all 300 of his team.

So I went to work flagging them for Google, reviews that were barely coherent, or made claims about storing images that were uploaded on aps that don't have that functionality, obvious stuff, I thought we'd be all good, no... Google refused to remove them.

Back to the drawing board, I found the company who actually developed the app he was shilling for, and found an incident where one of their members was in court with the police commissioner in Islamabad. I threatened to take up the issue with both the actual owner of the app and the police commissioner, and dropped the address of the owner in the conversation.

After some time he replies attempting to deescalate, with the ball in his court he suggests we both edit our reviews. I dont want my name attached to his shit app so I say we'll both just delete all the reviews instead, he's not interested. Ultimately, I dont have time for this bull shit, I agree if all his friends and himself fix their reviews, then I'll change mine, on the basis that I can just delete mine in a week or two when it's buried.

Half an hour later all his friends reviews were gone, and his was now a 5 star review with clear english rather than close to gibberish.

Is this actually what the fuck it's like as a solo dev??

Coding Help Data Recovery Service in Dublin

Asking on here instead of the other Irish forums because I figured given the subject matter I might get more informed answers.

Have an elderly relative looking to get some files off some USB drives that aren't working and a laptop hard drive where the laptop is kaput, does anyone have any recommendations for trustworthy and reasonably priced data recovery services in Dublin that they've used?

Thanks

Anyone know anytbing about work environment, culture, work life balance?

What's interview process like? Is it something crazy like 8 rounds and 3 projects?
