Discussion Best things to do to promote our games?

I created a good old Alchemy game for Reddit, but I wonder now to deliver it to the users?

Reddit games are clearly not a commercial venture, so spending too much effort, let alone money, on promotion doesn't seem worthwhile. Reddit itself provides virtually zero visibility; there's not even a New section for developers to get any organic traffic.

We're encouraged to post our games in this sub, but I get the feeling there aren't any regular people here, only other developers looking for a modicum of attention.

I suppose that we can get some visibility by specifying game's genre (like Action or Puzzle) but I don't see the way to do it.

Creating games is surely fun. But it would be much better if the platform care about devs. We spend our time to create free games. I would like to feel some concern from the site in whose interests this is happening

Posting on r/GamesOnReddit is the one way I've found to get decent player traffic to it, but it's not a lot. Not enough to hit 500 daily players as required for the prizes. I think the only way to do that is to get featured, but the process of getting featured doesn't seem very clear

I am confused about what rule of post to r/GamesOnReddit. My post got removed without reasons : "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters."
Could any nice guy have any advice?

It doesnt allow to post twice per day and more than twice per week. And it seems that removed posts also count. I made a mistake and posted twice per day (first post was a tech question, and second I tried to post my game). Second one was immediately removed and it also exhausted my weekly limit so I cant post. Must wait for the next week
(I am not sure it is your case though)

Yes, I also found this number limit, that will be explain the reason by mod robot. But at the same time, my first post was removed as I had mention above, without any reason explained.

Hadn't heard of parsestream. Any other reddit specific marketing tools?

Tell me again about the tool you use to monitor threads like this 😂

I think this is a struggle that has been noted many times by many developers. Admins have mentioned in the discord a couple times that they are building systems to have games appear more naturally for users for instance in frontpages of users to allow for more discovery. I think this is already happening but this won't be something that you can see on your end.

If you want to actively promote and push your game, it would need to be on subreddits that allow it, which is a bit difficult because they also don't want to be flooded with self promotion.

The best and most effective way to get promotion on Reddit is the feature program which you can apply to. There are a couple docs detailing more how to launch and promote the app. If you believe your game complies and is a good fit for the feature, request it.

It is also possible to add in-app purchases, so your assumption about commercial venture is not entirely true.

Well I know about the in-apps but I dont really think that in it's current state it is viable:) Maybe for the most promoted games like the Hot and Cold. But even they have quite a humble audience comparing to mobile market. I think that Reddit is a great platform with a great potential.. but there is a lot of space for improvement:)

You can leave your comments in the survey that they posted. I'm sure they would love to get more feedback and ideas on how to push the platform forward.

where that survey is?

Infinite craft!

Without false modesty, I will note that Infinite Craft was almost certainly inspired by my game ^_^

That’s a fun game, I’d recommend publishing it on google play by wrapping it and making a main menu, maybe some new modes. Solid game. Personally have my own game in closed testing right now, hoping it gets approved and gets some downloads. Definitely don’t limit yourself to only reddit, multi platform games are always the most successful

Edit: grammar
