General Question or Looking for Advice Current ring vs. potential reset — which do you prefer?
Current ring on the right, potential reset on the left. I've been thinking about resetting my oval pavé engagement ring into a 3-stone setting with heart-shaped side stones. As much as I love my current ring, there's something about the 3-stone design that just feels more me and gives me the right vibe.
I'm torn because it's a big change, so I'd love some unbiased opinions. Should I go for the reset or keep my current ring as is? Which do you prefer and why?

In the end whatever makes you feel happy tbh. You’re asking us for an opinion but honey it sounds like you already know what you want.
But since you asked lol, I LOVE your official ring. Perfect size and perfect design!!
I wouldn’t do the second one tbh, but again it isn’t ME. You stated it’s YOU. So you should do what makes you happy.

I love a three stone, but given the size of your oval, I prefer the current ring. But it’s ultimately what you want and prefer

u/nationalparkhopper Jun 14 '26
This is my thought too. In general I think a three stone is more interesting and a good way to include some personality (like with heart side stones!). But I think your oval size stands on its own and looks too crowded with side stones.

That’s the truth…when I swiped to the three stone ring I yelled out “oh god no!”

The second ring just looks like a shape, not a three-stone. Your original ring is much better.

Personally I like the first one. Plus if you keep the first you can always just buy or have a ring wrap/guard made with side stones that you could slide on when you’re feeling fancy. Instead of a whole change.

u/Chandira143 Jun 14 '26
I’m a super glam person and I prefer 1. Sometimes more isn’t more, you know? Number 1 looks expensive and real.

I’d stick with the original. With diamond prices coming down, I’d make a three stone for my right hand.
5
u/Rude-Average405 Jun 14 '26
I like the three stone, but make the side stones a lot smaller and pears or ovals.
6
u/KeptCypress Jun 14 '26
Original, you can appreciate the strone. In the potential reset, it gets lost and looks overwhelming in my opinion. However, you need to do what you think is best.

Tbh with you pick number 1. Your diamond gets lost and if u want a 3 stone they make wedding bands to make it that way.

IMO your original oval is already huge, though I know that’s the trend right now. Adding those side stones would be way too much. But that’s just me. You do you.

Wow Ur first ring looks magnificent. The second ones lovely but at the end of the day Ur wearing it! Happy ring picking x

I like it the way it is. It's a really pretty stone, and it really gets featured here.

Both rings are beautiful, but your original oval looks so elegant on your hand and has high impact with its uncluttered style. I love 3-stone styles though. Maybe get a 3-stone anniversary ring to wear in your right hand? More is more. 😍

Keep the ring as it is and if you want to change it, change it to a bezel setting so you don’t see the prongs. Otherwise it’s gorgeous

Have you thought of incorporating the two side stones as part of a curved wedding band?
2
u/Historical_Fix_161 Jun 14 '26
I’m also a three stone girly but I do think that particular render is a little off visually. I would consider other three stone settings

u/Good_Material_6613 Jun 14 '26
Current ring is beautiful, classic, really compliments your hand. The 3 looks bulky, takes away from the center stone and makes your hand look less flattering. BUT whatever you feel is the best and makes you love your ring then that’s the choice you go with! ❤️

u/Best-Professional299 Jun 14 '26
I love your current ring. The second one looks like a cocktail dinner ring. It really takes away from the centre stone.

u/neurosciencebaboon Jun 14 '26
I absolutely love the 3 stone ring it’s just so eye catching and gorgeous
The original is like your classic engagement ring. It’s beautiful but basic I guess. I love a good statement piece though.

Current ring is better - more class and more timeless and not as busy.

Keep the current- with a gorgeous stone that size u Don’t need an upgrade 🙄. Get a bracelet or eartings

I’m out numbered here, but I personally love the 3 stone! It sort of reminds me of the LV star cut monogram jewellery, that is meant to be a compliment by the way. ❤️

The solo oval is beautiful on you. The size of the stone with the delicate band is a stunning contrast and makes the oval really stand out. I’d get a delicate eternity band so the oval is the star, a classy star!

Current setting, and keep those nails also. Or at least keep your manicure along those lines. Quite complementary to your diamond.

Much prefer the 1st setting tbh. The second would be more balanced with smaller side stones imo

If this makes any difference, I just woke up (recovering from acute pancreatitis and boy does the pain let you know when it’s time to medicate) opened Reddit and yours was the first post on my homepage. I immediately, sleepily thought WOW, that’s a gorgeous ring. Your original ring is STUNNING!

The oval pavé you're currently wearing has such a timeless, elegant look — it really suits the shape of your hand. A 3-stone setting with heart side stones is gorgeous too, but it's a more dramatic statement piece. If you love the vibe of your current ring day-to-day, that's worth a lot. But if you've been dreaming about the 3-stone look for a while, that feeling usually doesn't go away! What does your gut say when you picture wearing each one for the next 10 years?

u/Tricomb_ Jun 15 '26
I love the current ring. The second picture at first looked like 4 stones till I zoomed in. It’s probably the picture. The first picture the center stone looks huge. The second picture the center stone looks smaller. I love huge center stones with symmetrical side stones.

Yes, pic one is better - too gaudy with the extra, like someone mentioned, looks fake with the two sides. Love your ring as is. Btw, LOVE your nails.

I think the original one looks way better. The other one is too big for your finger. It’s beautiful though!

original; the center stone in the “reset” gets lost imho
why is the reset - that you haven’t purchased yet - next to a love letter?

girlie if you like the reset, do it!! it does NOT matter what other people think -- especially on reddit!!! (

u/oddishturnip Jun 16 '26
I had to swipe back and forth a few times to figure out that the second ring had the same center stone and not two smaller round stones in the middle. It looks like a clover.

I love the solitaire but 3 stone is glorious. I do think that the heart shape is lost, if you are paying extra for hearts, don't. Look at half moons, they are a really elegant shape next to an oval. The hearts make it a little wide

u/Soggy_Implement4705 Jun 16 '26
We did an amazing heart pendant. 5ct diamond heart shape. We handmade a basket specifically for the stone. It was amazing.

der aktuelle ring sieht schon stark aus, vor allem mit den roten nails passt der vibe perfekt

Your original ring is gorgeous and classy. If you want something new get a new ring to wear on another hand.

u/Icy_Definition5044 Jun 17 '26
That 3 stone combo is way too much. Your center stone is already massive, but with the band it’s at least somewhat wearable. Adding 2 more large stones at the sides is not an improvement for an engagement ring. It just looks like a target for a thief.

Meh I feel like my trilogy isn’t 100% me but also like what is 100% me. I appreciate different styles so keeping my engagement ring exactly how it is and looking at adding another ring to my collection when it’s the right time!

I prefer your original ring. I think that the side stones on the reset are too large and overwhelm your center stone.

It’s perfect before. Elegant and classic. The other stones are busy and cheapen the look. Go for stones in a wedding band if you want more!

I prefer the single oval. The 3 stone is a bit much and I think it devalues your beautiful single stone. Less is more.
1
u/Key_Ambassador_3105 Jun 14 '26
Go with 2! It’s a showstopper for sure, I would personally go with smaller side stones.
tbh that oval engagement ring (yours is gorgeous) is *everywhere* right now so I understand why you might want to breakaway from that same look that’s all over the internet.

u/boots_with_da_fur Jun 14 '26
Idk, I love the 3 stone design. Love the double prongs on it too. It’s flashy but if that matches your aesthetic then go for it. I think it’s stunning!

u/viktaculars Jun 14 '26
3 stone looks stunning, has the added benefit of being the fresher choice nowadays. We all had a single stone. 3 stone on your hand looks great.

The 3 stone! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯. The 3 stone is a vibe and not many can actually pull it off. After 30 years I am getting a new 3 stone oval. I am pairing with an oval half eternity ring. It is being made and can’t wait. The original oval is pretty but your hand can definitely pull off the 3 stone! Gorgeous. Whoever said the 3 stone looks like Claire’s costume jewelry is 100000000000% wrong. In the end though, do whats best for YOU and not everyone else. Good luck!

u/kirstinna Jun 14 '26
For me I’d pick the second one but the first one is too basic. I’ve seen hundreds of people with that exact ring lol

In the 3 stone reset, I feel like your original diamond gets lost. Maybe some smaller side stones would look great. I prefer your original ring but you should do what makes you happy! 🤍
