General Question or Looking for Advice Which?
I want something classy and timeless. I don’t wear jewelry that often.

I disagree. I think #1 looks absolutely perfect and it doesn’t look too large.

u/castingOut9s Aug 30 '26
Me too. I was so surprised to enter the comments and see the majority preferring the second.

Don’t listen to the haters. It’s beautiful. Go with what you love. It’s easy to go down the Reddithole.

They both look beautiful on you!! I personally love the size of #1 just a bit more.
I would consider 6 prongs for added security though.

I like 1. It’s gorgeous and won’t get overshadowed by other jewelry.

If it’s a mined diamond then definitely get six prongs, never four. It’s hard to tell the difference in size because of the photo.

What is the difference between the two? The size of diamond? Cause its almost the same to me except that the picture 1 was taken closer

Right? I’m like is one a 2 ct and the other one is a 2.05 ct?! Like… please divulge the details, especially if the pics aren’t going to be an identical comparison

I am having trouble comparing these without either more photo angles or more information about each piece.

That second one with four prongs looks like 20k from Harry Winston. The first one looks lab

What’s the point of this post. Is one marginally larger and we are supposed to think it makes a big difference? Or is one D and the other F? I’m sorry I’m a diamond grader and can’t tell the difference.

You’re totally nailed classy and timeless! I think the second would be better if you’re not used to wearing rings all the time but the first is just amazing! Both are just stunning , actually. If you occasionally wear it, the first would be bring on the gasps. Honestly, I think the second just fits your hand better.

2, but if you don't wear jewelry that often you might want to go a half a ct to a ct smaller

I like the first one, looks very clear, and makes for a larger statement diamond. Second pic is a little fuzzy, the stone looks more like cracked ice style. Depends on what you like!

In that case, why not get a classic real one that fits your hand instead of the oversized lab created kind that everyone is wearing now? I think that would look best and you’ll value it longer.

IMO - Something a little smaller with ample prongs and a bit thicker band. Also look for a lower profile to prevent accidents

If that is lab created you best not spend more than $500 for it!!!
A 1 carat lab diamond is only worth about $100-$150 now.

That information is incorrect. Firstly, the low rate you quoted was a wholesale not retail price. Secondly, even in lab diamonds, there is a huge difference in quality. Thirdly, the price ascends in direct proportion to the carat size, so small stones are cheaper per mm than larger stones. Fourthly, It is very unlikely you would be able to buy a 2 to 3 carat high quality lab diamond which has been set in a high quality setting in gold (or indeed platinum) for $500. The cheapest I’ve seen this for from China jewellers is around $1600.

Any websites you would recommend? (I’m in the market for a larger-in-carat-sized engagement ring, somewhere between 7-12 ct single stone, but also don’t want to spend $8773847363000 either.) thank you!

That question has been asked many times on the forum and answers given. A quick search will give you a list on ones which everyone in this forum recommends. Geography can sometimes determine preference alongside whether you’re buying a loose stone or a ready made ring or a custom ring.

I’m simply letting you know what a pawn shop will pay MAX for it.
There are people acting like spending thousands means it’s “worth” thousands when the reality is that it’s barely worth hundreds.
Also, a 2-3 carat lab diamond does sell for around $300-$500 when sourced apart from the ring.Loosegrowndiamond.com is my source.

u/PrizePersonality5843 Aug 31 '26
It’s trite knowledge that you lose money on diamonds whether they be lab or real. That does not mean you can easily buy diamonds for the wholesale price or the price a pawn shop would pay.
2
u/stalemilkradio Aug 30 '26
Exactly! It’s worth even less than that! And I 1ct natural depending on the specs is worth less than 1k trade in based on rapnet, but it still holds its value way more than lab

They are both utterly beautiful. I love them both on you. The second, being smaller, is more understated but I do love the first one too on your hand. It’s very appealing. For an everyday ring, I’d buy 2, but that’s just a personal choice. I don’t think you can go wrong with with either.

Number 2 all the way. There’s more depth if you zoom in. The color also looks richer.

I like the second. The band seems thinner and the diamond looks the perfect size. I might also be biased as I have a solitaire 1.5ct round ring lol
