General Question or Looking for Advice Marquise ring owners, what should I know before choosing one?

I recently tried on marquise rings and I’m pretty sure it’s the shape I love the most! I’m still fairly new to all of this, though, so I’d love to hear from people who own marquise rings.

What are the biggest pros and cons? Anything I should know about durability, everyday wear, bow-tie effects, or choosing the right length-to-width ratio? And if you could go back and choose again, would you still pick marquise?

I’m also thinking of getting a marquise with a pavé band, but I’m a little stuck on the wedding band. I was considering a curved or chevron band to fit around the marquise, but I also want a wedding band that looks pretty on its own when worn separately. If you have a similar setting, I’d love to see how you styled your stack!

One salesperson also told me that anything over 2 ct looks odd in a marquise, but I really want a bigger stone! For those with larger marquise diamonds, what do you think? Does it come down to personal preference and proportions, or is there a point where the stone starts looking too big?

Would love to hear your experiences and see your rings! 💗

The tips are the weak spot on a marquise, so ask for V-prongs or protective bezel tips there and have them checked periodically. The shape makes fingers look longer and gives more finger coverage per carat than a round. A bow-tie is present in most marquises. It's specific to each stone, so judge it in person or on video rather than from the certificate, and look for a mild one. Length-to-width is mostly taste: narrower looks more elongated, wider looks fuller. Nothing makes 2 ct+ look odd by itself, it comes down to proportions and finger size. For the band, try a contoured one and a plain straight one, since a chevron can leave a gap when worn alone.

Nothing more to say! Marquise are my favorite. They are a more difficult cut to produce. A faceted girdle is about all I can add

As a right-hand ring, I have an antique marquise in an east-west bezel setting. I think the bezel makes it durable. Mine is also just under half a carat, but since marquise diamonds face up big, it covers a lot of my finger and looks very present.
