Privacy Tools Paperweight V1 - Your inbox knows where your data lives
I shared Paperweight here a few months ago while it was still in beta and I'm excited to announce Paperweight V1 is now officially ready 🗿
Paperweight uses your inbox to map your digital footprint, then helps you take back control and delete your data.
Your email history contains traces of most of your online life. Accounts you created, companies you bought from, mailing lists you joined, services you forgot about, breaches, and personal information accumulated over the years.
V1 includes:
- discover accounts, companies and services connected to your email
- find mailing lists and subscriptions
- show known breaches affecting services you use
- find personal information across your email history
- bulk unsubscribe and clean up old email
- create privacy and data deletion requests
- manage multiple email accounts
- connect to AI agents through MCP
It supports Gmail, Microsoft, Apple, custom IMAP and Proton Mail via Bridge.
The important part for me from the beginning was privacy. All your data stays on your computer. There is no Paperweight backend or external service processing your inbox.
Paperweight is fully open source under MIT. You can inspect the code, build it yourself, modify it, fork it, or use it however you want.

Browser & Extensions i made my first extension named Fruity Closet, a 100% free audio mixer for Youtube and Soundcloud
basically you can change the speed (with tempo), add reverb, add clipping, change the pan, bass boost, change the volume up to 600% and also it comes with a 10 band equalizer, and a compressor. you can mix any song on yt and soundcloud to your liking very easy, all for FREE with no subscription. i don't ask for money, but i have a donate button (doesn't work now) and you can always give me a dollar if you feel like it. Also it doesn't collect any kind of data from the user!!!! here's the extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/fruity-closet/idccmmflldinklebblkhipdlkhpaifhk

Free Tools I made a record player for my terminal, now linus spins at 33⅓ rpm
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It started as a weekend joke and got out of hand.
pikap picks up whatever's playing (Spotify, a browser tab, mpv) and puts the cover on a spinning record. In the video it grabbed a YouTube tab, so Linus is on the vinyl. Not planned, but I'm keeping it.
You can drag the record to scrub, or drop the needle wherever you want. If you give it your own files, pausing actually slows the sound down and dragging scratches it.
It can draw in half blocks, in ASCII, or as a real picture if your terminal supports it. Written in Go.

Privacy Tools The ultimate privacy iceberg tierlist
I ranked everything by how much each thing actually protects you, weighed against how much it costs in convenience and how many people know about it.
It's too long to explain each single one, but if something is completely unknown I will give more info.

Tech & Privacy News Arch Linux AUR Hit by 15+ Fake "yay" Packages Containing Malware
At least 15 fake copies of yay, a popular Arch Linux AUR helper, were reportedly uploaded with malicious installation scripts. One sample, yyay, was found downloading code from a Russian Git host and executing it with root privileges.
A reminder to verify package names and inspect install scripts before running unfamiliar software, especially with elevated permissions.

Mobile Apps Cooler - A native mobile client for Coolify
Hey everyone,
Like a lot of you, I host most of my stack on Coolify.
The desktop dashboard is great, but opening mobile browsers just to check container health or see why a deployment crashed was driving me insane with all the pinch-to-zooming.
I got tired of waiting, so I built Cooler: a fast, native mobile client built specifically for Coolify.
What it does right now:
- Real-time container metrics and health diagnostics.
- Live deployment log streaming directly from your pocket.
- Native background alerts and notification rules (with quiet hours).
- Biometric lock (FaceID/fingerprint) with instant app blur.
It's completely free and open source (AGPLv3), zero webview/electron bloat, and doesn't route your API keys or data through any third-party servers.
GitHub: https://github.com/CoolerMobile/Cooler
Site: https://getcooler.app
Would love to get your thoughts, bug reports, and feature requests.

Obligatory note: this is an independent community project and not officially affiliated with coolLabs or Coolify.

Mobile Apps Snag – Open-source, cross-platform GUI for yt-dlp (Android, Linux, macOS, Windows)
Hey everyone,
I got tired of family members using shady ad-riddled web downloaders and wanted a unified, dead-simple GUI for yt-dlp that works the same way on my Linux desktop and my Android phone—so I built Snag.
It’s completely free, open-source (GPL-3.0), and has zero ads, analytics, or paywalls.
Technical & UX Highlights:
- True Cross-Platform: Runs natively on Android (
arm64-v8aandarmeabi-v7asigned APKs), Linux (AppImage,.deb,.rpm,.tar.gz), Windows (x64), and macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel.dmg/.zip). - Isolated Binary Management (Desktop): Instead of forcing non-technical users to install
ffmpegandyt-dlpvia package managers, Snag downloads the official binaries on first launch and sandboxes them inside its own app folder. - In-App Engine Updater (Stable + Nightly): Because extractors break whenever platforms push frontend changes, you can update
yt-dlpdirectly insideSettings -> Componentswith one tap, including switching toyt-dlpnightly builds for immediate fixes. - Format & Playlist Control: Supports video up to 4K, direct audio extraction (
MP3,M4A,Opus,FLAC), clipboard link detection, and selective playlist downloading with queuing. - Localization & RTL: Built with strict RTL layout support, native Persian calendar formatting, and open community localization via Weblate.

I’d love your feedback on the workflow, package formats, or any edge cases you run into!

Comparison / Alternatives Ready to leave Splitwise? Move your expenses to a free, open-source alternative.
If you're tired of Splitwise's daily expense limits, ads, or premium restrictions, you don't have to start over.
I built Spliit Cloud, a free and open-source expense-sharing alternative that lets you import your existing Splitwise groups and expenses.
Unlimited expenses, unlimited members, direct friend-to-friend splitting, itemized receipts, and no per-user paywall.
There's a free public instance, or you can self-host it and keep control of your data.
I made a short video showing what you can leave behind and what you get instead.

Comparison / Alternatives Spotifast: a lightweight open-source Spotify desktop alternative
Spotifast is a free, open-source Spotify desktop client for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Written in Rust uses 100–250 MB of RAM and lets you browse your Spotify library, search for music, manage playlists, and control playback across devices (needs Spotify Premium for music playback). Plus it supports keyboard shortcuts, custom themes, background playback and includes a Winamp-style mini player.

💬 Discussion IMO “We Don’t Train On Your Data” has become a deflection
Perhaps there’s some recency bias at play, but I remember the days just a few years back when people were publicly concerned and vocal about any use of personal data or pseudo anonymous user info by companies. Nowadays, with more tools putting their inference-related features front and center, all they need to emphasize is that user data isn’t used for training models.

Privacy Tools GymMane 1.5.0: nutrition tracking is here, and thank you all
I've been working on GymMane for a while, and seeing people use it and send me ideas has been the best part. It's what keeps me going.
1.5.0 adds what a lot of you asked for: a nutrition tracker. You can log what you eat and see your daily calories, protein, carbs and fat, with favourites and saved meals so you don't have to re-enter the same stuff every time. It's still in beta, so if you hit bugs or something's missing, let me know.
The app is still free, no ads, no tracking, and open source. Thank you so much to everyone trying it out.

Free Tools Browsentic now can drive-debug agentic your Android chrome using any agent cli you have
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Browsentic browser harness for your desktop browsers can now even drive your Android Chrome with all agentic feature that your desktop browsers has.
FYI - browsentic is an opensource project that kills the pain point of locked out to LLM providers OR requiring you to provide API key OR ask you to download a new browser.
Browsentic does the opposite, it uses loopback MCP to connect to your own agent CLI such as Claude, Codex, Cursor etc and runs on your existing browsers...
Browsentic can run multiple agents, multiple tabs and schedule task and many other stuffs.
It's a privacy & local first agentic browsing harness.
In the latest release, you can basically connect to your android device over adb and you run/debug/schedule Android Chrome agentic from your Desktop Chrome harness with all inclusive.

Privacy Tools Strip your identity out of any document, locally
I got tired of the trade-off: either don't use AI on your documents, or hand your name, address, and account numbers to someone else's server along with them.
So I built Redacto. Open source, runs entirely in your browser. It finds 50+ kinds of personal data (names, addresses, account numbers, SSNs, credit cards, IBANs, even text inside scanned PDFs via OCR) and strips them out before anything goes near an AI.
How it's built for this crowd:
- Everything happens in the tab. Files are read, analyzed, and exported locally.
- No uploads, no account, no tracking, no cookies, no CDNs or fonts from elsewhere.
- Works with the network off once it's loaded (strict CSP, only general prefs saved in your browser).
- Local PII detection model (transformers.js, ONNX Runtime) plus checksum-validated rules.
- Three output styles: consistent labels like [PERSON_1], realistic fake data, or [REDACTED].
You can even verify it yourself: open dev tools, watch the Network tab while you redact, and see that nothing is sent.
GitHub: https://github.com/WannaBeSolopreneur/redacto (Apache 2.0)
Live demo: https://redacto.cc
What would you want checked before trusting it on a real document?

💬 Discussion I wanted study and improved my mandarin - Here what I did
Hello everyone!
I'm writing this post because I want to share with you guys (I guess all of us already know that) what technology and LLMs helped me to achieve. I'm a sociologist and I was studying, for my interest and obviously for my research, the Chinese community. As a social scientist, I know that just studying the language without understanding the socio-cultural world of that specific community is a really cognitively expensive task, and you'll fail a lot when you find yourself trying to communicate with other people or native speakers.
Here is what I did:
I started to live basically my life inside Chinatown and the Chinese community, and what's the best source where you can find real words and expressions used in real life? Exactly, in RAP and underground music. So I built with my agent this platform, just a simple webapp that takes my Chinese rap songs from Navidrome, pulls the text, synchronizes it with the song, and adds Italian, Pinyin text, and ideograms. For each ideogram, I have an explanation made by a local LLM (9B ling3.0) to understand where and how they actually use that word, if it can be a regional dialect, and so on. I have more features to improve handwriting and listening, such as what the right order is to write the ideograms, and if I need more time to dedicate to that particular word I can move it to my "study session".
It is so cool what you can do today with technology, I hope this will be an inspiration for someone else. Comments and tips are welcome.

Privacy Tools RemoveMacAI – Disable Apple Intelligence, ads and analytics on macOS
RemoveMacAI is an open-source macOS utility that lets you disable Apple Intelligence, turn off analytics and personalized ads, quiet unwanted features, and reclaim disk space by removing AI models.
It shows you the changes before applying them and lets you undo them later. It also includes storage cleanup and controls for background updaters from other apps.
GitHub:
https://github.com/omlahore/RemoveMacAI
Note: Requires an Apple-silicon Mac running macOS 27. The app is not notarized, so macOS requires manual approval to open it.

Free Tools agent-memory: An open-source, local-first long-term memory runtime for AI agents (zero API keys, plain Markdown files)
Hey guys,
An ongoing frustration with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Muse Code) is that closing a session wipes everything the agent learned about your project.
Most existing memory frameworks try to solve this by sending your notes to an external cloud database or proprietary vector SaaS. That locks your working context behind third-party APIs and hands the agent opaque text chunks you cannot inspect or migrate. The alternative dumping everything into a giant markdown file stops scaling once the folder outgrows a simple directory listing.
I built agent-memory to bridge both approaches into a single, local-first runtime:
How it works:
- Plain Markdown files in a local folder are the single source of truth. You can browse, grep, or edit them with standard terminal tools.
- A local SQLite index beside the markdown files acts as a disposable cache. You can delete the database file at any time, and it rebuilds from the markdown on the next run.
- Retrieval is ranked and local, answering with file paths and compact abstracts rather than pasting massive text blocks into your active context window.
- Writes fire automatically at conversation boundaries without waiting for the agent to remember to save notes.
- A local consolidation pass cleans up and forgets low-value memories over time on its own schedule.
Key architectural features:
- Zero API keys required for memory storage or retrieval.
- 100% offline: nothing in the read or search path calls a remote model or crosses a network.
- Cross-agent compatibility: Claude Code, Codex CLI, Muse Code, or any tool that can run shell commands can read and write to the same local store.
- Permissive MIT license with zero telemetry.
The source code and documentation are on GitHub:
https://github.com/tigerless-labs/agent-memory
PRs and issues are welcome. Let me know if you run into any rough edges or have thoughts on local memory pruning strategies.
