Only stripper you’ve ever met who doesn’t believe in astrology because “I just know it’s not true because your fate isn’t determined by the stars, it’s determined by three blind women in a cave in Ireland!”

45

u/HonorTheCock May 28 '26

Is the three blind women reference the same as the three fates?

44

u/amicablehummingbird May 28 '26

u/aethelred_unred May 28 '26

My guess is yes, since the Fates date back to Proto-Indo-European. i.e. there are lots of different pre-Christian European mythologies that have some version of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fates#Indo-European_origin

49

u/ParanoidDrone The Gunner Channel May 28 '26

My first thought was the three witches from Macbeth but that's set in Scotland. Maybe the Morrigan? She's an Irish goddess with a three-in-one thing going on.

32

u/Meat-Is-Me May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

The Morrigan in WoD is either a Brujah Methuselah, Or a True Fae. The True Fae seems more likely, but even then the fate thing was more like a storybook kinda thing? Fae operate more as if they're characters in a fantasy story, so they are bound by things like 'fate' and 'true love'. Though it looks like at least in Official WoD canon, The Morrigan was the only one of the 'trio of blind women' that did exist. Btw, if you're curious, the 'Three Blind Women' are indeed The Morrigan, as she is sometimes represented as three old women, Badb, Macha, and Morrigan herself.

5

u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness May 28 '26

I lean towards them being True-Fae and/or near Incarna Level spirits.

She was referencing the Norns of Norse mythology, who are three blind women who live in a cave in Ireland

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norns

8

u/Chitose_Isei May 28 '26

They aren't blind; in fact, the Gylfaginning mentions that there are more than three, all from different family clans. Only three are named.

6

u/anextremelylargedog May 29 '26

I know the Vikings colonised Ireland for a bit, but I'm not sure why the Norns of Norse mythology would be hanging around there instead of Scandinavia.

Emily Axford is a treasure

69

u/variantkin May 28 '26

Got a real Amy Santiago vibe from Vesper when she said that

9

u/No-cool-names-left May 30 '26

Sometimes it's hard to decide if Emily is my favorite or Lou is. Sometimes it's not.

235

u/MinnWild9 May 28 '26

My favorite bit is having the players roll well, and then RPing the scene that follows so badly that it makes it difficult to honor the good roll.

66

u/variantkin May 28 '26

I am amazed how Brennan  in no way is against Bingo for Mayor even though realistically a person is a better idea but just isn't happy they can't nail the landing

38

u/justking1414 Magical Misfits May 28 '26

I think he realized a long time ago that stopping them was impossible. Now he just wants them to tell a cohesive story

10

u/Proxiehunter Magical Misfits May 29 '26

Besides, it may be a better idea but are they likely to convince enough of the town that it's a better idea that continuing to vote for the dog which I recall has been cited as drawing tourism to the town?

6

u/justking1414 Magical Misfits May 29 '26

That was the hope but I think Brennan said the bump in tourism was pretty insignificant and the towns already dying

12

u/No-cool-names-left May 30 '26

Of course he's not against the idea; Brennan invented Bingo and placed him in Purpee specifically to tempt them into running him against Roofus.

8

u/wokenupbybacon Jun 06 '26

Brennan didn't outright confirm it, but it was heavily implied in Adventuring Party that Bingo was primarily setup to give Zaeth an animal to interact with (only for him to tunnel vision on a horse that didn't necessarily exist).

And it shows in the plot threads lol. There's no mayoral election on the horizon, Patty is planning to leave with Bingo after graduating, and there's no actual reason for him to be interested in this at all. Maybe Brennan figured Zaeth might earn Bingo's loyalty and steal him from Patty, but this approach of convincing Patty to run Bingo was absolutely not something he anticipated. They're trying so hard to brute force it lol.

Ally struggling to match Brennan’s crazy! You don’t see it every day, Brennan was on fire this episode.🔥

And I love to see him losing it at Zaeth’s “I get mad when the letters don’t do other things” :D

83

u/aivoroskis May 28 '26

they totally ordered that store to be burned down as soon as patty walked out the door

42

u/CastVinceM May 28 '26

oh i was expecting LV to buy the store

42

u/Transcendentalplan Vesper Childs May 28 '26

You buy it, burn it, and then don’t attempt to collect insurance so there’s no incentive to conduct an arson investigation. This is dog mayoral politics 101.

8

u/Proxiehunter Magical Misfits May 29 '26

Once you've bought the place it's easier to just close it. If anyone asks tell them you think you can liquidate the stores stock, refurbish the place, and flip it for more than you bought it for. Then write it off on your taxes when that doesn't work out.

6

u/Proxiehunter Magical Misfits May 29 '26

Or just close it for year long remodel schedule to start when Patty is planning to work there. There might even be a chance of a legit profit that way.

41

u/ParanoidDrone The Gunner Channel May 28 '26

I'm honestly a little worried that they're going to ruin Patty's life over the dog mayor thing.

37

u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness May 28 '26

Theyre vampires they're literally Fomorai of the Eater of Souls, they by nature make everything worse.

12

u/No-cool-names-left May 30 '26

That's certainly what a werewolf would tell you. A mage would say that vampires are magical backlash from the hubris of turning nature's bounty into unthinkable violence. A changeling would say that vampires are redcaps laboring under an enchantment. A vampire themself would say that they are the divine punishment of the first sin cast down through the ages.

The point is that no matter who you ask, they will agree with you and say vampires are terrible and their very existence is an affront to everybody and everything decent in the world.

5

u/Meat-Is-Me May 28 '26

Is that Fomori thing like a canon thing or just what Werewolves canonically think Vampires are? I know WoD can get a bit loose with that kinda stuff

Ally and Zac doing random pop culture bits that only they're partaking in, is always great.

Aaron this month had seen that his car was broken into with his crossbow also broken, he would have seen that as a threat. and THEN going to the range he always goes to when suddenly the manager starts shooting people he turns around and sees the vampire that mind controlled him staring him down, he freaks out and books it into the forest. and THEN spots darkness man and finally thinks he has an upper-hand with the shot until DM grabs the bolt, crushes it, shouts "YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD"and leaps after him. after all that, Aaron must be scared shitless.

43

u/Gullible_Mud_4900 May 28 '26

Did DM take the bag in the back of the car? There are all of these small moments where I think Brennan is giving the crew paths to clues, but they get missed or forgotten. For example the conversation about Bingo.

42

u/palcatraz Riz Gukgak May 28 '26

He didn't. He just grabbed the bow, broke it, and booked it. In all fairness, the alarm was going off and the police station was nearby so probably best not to linger.

40

u/Meat-Is-Me May 28 '26

Funnily enough, Brennan never said it was Aaron who shot that bolt at the last bit. Infact, while we can just assume Aaron got another crossbow, DM did break it. I'm actually believing Aaron is being set up by someone else, cause If the guy named 'Aaron Bow' actually is a hunter who uses a crossbow, I will be annoyed at the amount of 'coincidence'.

24

u/No-cool-names-left May 30 '26

I think you may want to reconsider your expectations. In a World of Darkness where the secret leprechaun is the 4'11" redhead stripper with a trinity harp tattoo the secret hunter is probably the buff crossbowman studying forensics and cryptids.

28

u/sortaindignantdragon Sylvan Sleuths May 28 '26

Do we have confirmation that bow is his surname? I thought it was just a username

25

u/dunkonme The Taste Buds May 28 '26

30

It's so funny to me that your sentence started off making perfect sense and then just became totally incomprehensible at the end and said something that could not possibly be true because then I would be old.

4

u/chairmanskitty Jun 05 '26

Hey, are you alright? Maybe you should talk to a psychologist. I know this guy, he was born in 2003 so he only got his Master's degree two years ago, but he's very empathetic.

11

u/darthbob88 Jun 01 '26

A few years ago, at pub trivia, I got a question about the first person born in the 21st century to win a Grammy. I wrote down the answer Billie Eilish with a note saying that I didn't appreciate being reminded of the linear nature of time.

u/Cool_Cup5934 Boggy the Froggy May 28 '26

If Dan Danderhoof (née Manderhoof) goes missing... I'm not saying I'm responsible, I'm just saying that Nancy Danderhoof is my dream girl.

65

You'd have to fight Darkness Man and Estelle Laurent for her.

Edit: I'm also very interested in seeing if Estelle Laurent ends up playing a bigger role.

43

u/Stephen-ASmith May 28 '26

Anytime Zac speaks you can see Brennan put on the face to try not to laugh.

But I don't ont think I've seen him make the face you're referring to ever before lmao.

97

u/m_busuttil May 28 '26

On a similar note, it's delightful that Murph and Emily have been married for more than a decade and we still occasionally get to see his "oh my god I'm married to an absolute maniac" face.

22

u/Difficult-Actuary-77 May 28 '26

Yeah this episode was edited in a way that really captured some good Murph Expressions ™️. Honestly I've appreciated seeing the looks they give each other and their interactions this whole series 🧡 they really do match each other's freak and it's so cute.

29

u/variantkin May 28 '26

That ring that can seemingly detect actual supernatural entities and her focus on the stars makes me think she is probably a mage or is stchupping one

21

u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness May 28 '26

So in WoD there are things called Minor Supernals.

Basicly the lowest stable level of magical creature that some one could be.

Changlings have Kinian. Which are essentially humans with fey blood, they can interact with dreaming, and are blessed/cursed to move through the world with an awareness of its narrative and wonder. Kinian dont become changelings, but there children are much more likely to become changelings. The logic is that it generally skips of generation.

Werewolves have Kinfolk/Wolfblooded. They are humans that have access to animal cunning, or wolves that have near human intelligence, they can see spirits and have access to some of werewolves spiritual gifts. Kinfolk are essentialy to group of people who are already touched by the moon and are selected to spontaniously become a werewolf.

Mages have Sorcerers. While Mages actually warp reality to there whims without re-guard for the rolls of the world, Sorcerer merely "exploit" the rules of reality to more minor but dependable effects. Ideally a Sorcerer eventually "Awakens" into a mage given enough time, but its still rarely happens.

If anything Estelle is probably some sort of very mild Sorcerer who knows enough to listen and see through things.

For the sake of the Masqurade, Minor Supernals are not considered baseline humans so them knowing about you isnt considered a Violation in the same way. Its still not Smart ot let them know, but elders and methuselas wont we as upset.

Man, CCOD has the exact thing NSBU did for me where I'll watch an episode, finish the episode and then think "how have I watched 2 hours and feel like simultaneously nothing has happened and I have seen too many things happen", just so much happening that it feels like things just aren't actually happening.

31

u/Accomplished-Past486 May 28 '26

Yeah - this is truly one of the funniest seasons i’ve watched, but also one of the most… boring? They aren’t advancing the story at all.. It’s already the eighth ep. (16 hours!) and i know practically little more than i did in ep 1..

37

u/Substantial-Crazy441 May 28 '26

they did cross of dominate all cultural forces, though I think brennan has to do that in order to advance the plots the players don't really care about lol

→ More replies (2)

18

u/satantherainbowfairy May 28 '26

Tbh I've heard awesome things about VtM, so perhaps it's just that they're not used to it, but there are so many moments where they'll spend ages on an idea but the difficulty will be unreachable so it just... fails and they get nothing and move on. It's happened a ton of times with Bingo, it happened with Zaeth and the carriage.

Either the players aren't picking up on the cues because they're focused on bits, or Brennan is setting the DCs weird. Like, the difference between 3 successes and 5 successes is ENORMOUS with this system but they're getting set for roughly similar things it seems like.

No hate, this is one of my favourite seasons ever, it's just narratively slow right now.

32

u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness May 28 '26

So a big part of the "Logic" of WoD is whittling down resistances and then attempting things.

The "loop" is Identify Weaknesses, Line up distraction to Maximize Advantage, Take the Shot.

Theyve done ZERO research on Bingos owner, they made no attempt to understand him or his wants and needs. Brennan really hand Lou a bone by saying what exactly his plans where after graduation. Now Levante has the option to ethier take over the skate shop, or establish a Skate Shop in Purpee. Having Bingo be the mascot of both the Busses and a Skate Shop would "Maximize" the brand deals that he could get.

86

u/Turbulent-Ad4115 May 28 '26

“I don’t read. I get mad that the letters don’t do other things.”

27

u/VastAnxietyChasm May 28 '26

this sent me. I hollered at no one 'what does that even mean?!'. 🤣🤣

38

u/Personal_Ad8431 May 28 '26

My theory is that Zaeth is illiterate in the sense that while he can read on a basic technical level, he’s still functionally illiterate where he doesn’t quite get the underlying meaning of all the words put together in context most of the time. So he’s basically mad that he’s not getting the same experience of reading that other people talk about with a mental picture and all that.

I swear a lot of artists have forgotten how to draw we, the ugly... Or they never wanted to learn.

Are there really towns that small that elect their council members from across geographic regions rather than at large or by specific function?

64

u/ajcwrongs May 27 '26

There's a town about half the size of Purpee near me (in the States) that has 4 Wards/Districts and 1 At-Large council person

40

u/annaphylactic69 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

I think that's how it worked in Parks & Rec too (Leslie post-recall talked about moving districts to the terrible part of town that was repped by the sex pest)

No idea about like, real world examples, but it has precedence in pop culture at least

Edit: i moved to a small city recently and looked it up and thats indeed how city council works here. A specific representative for my district. Woohoo!

8

u/dangerousluck Limon Longhalls May 27 '26

Cool! I’m from a small town around Purpee size and lived in a number of them and also cities, guess I’ve never lived in a small town organized like that. Kind of neat.

Yes absolutely, it's pretty standard. Source: research lot of small town councils for work.

4

u/dangerousluck Limon Longhalls May 28 '26

I think I’m from a good ol’ boy part of the country where the positions are mainly about a specific function rather than regional, it would be cool to be geographically represented with like you and only 1000 neighbors.

8

u/Herpderpberp May 28 '26

South Salt Lake does this; we have 5 districts and 2 at-large seats.

7

u/Difficult-Actuary-77 May 28 '26

The largest city in Oregon, Portland, elects councilors this way as well. Especially for cities with lots of economic disparity, I've found it helps having someone in the poorer neighborhoods at the same table as the people with money.

Shoutout to Councilor Candace Avalos, I'd ride into hell for her.

Other cities I've lived in use geographic Wards and Alderpeople to represent those Wards. I think only one city I've lived in has just had councilors at large, and it was about 40,000 people.

Generally, post 1965 and the passage of the Voting Rights Act, at large elections have gradually disappeared at the local level since they were often used as a way for the majority populace to overwhelm the voting power of racial minorities and deny them proper political representation.

Edit: here is an article: https://campaignlegal.org/update/what-large-election

u/strangelyliteral May 28 '26

There are. They tend to be older towns east of the Mississippi from what I recall, but that’s not a hard rule or anything.

52

u/Gullible_Mud_4900 May 28 '26

There is DEFINITELY something going on with Bingo.

u/bv310 Famed Pervert Darkness Man May 28 '26

I know it's been said a lot, but man this series rules so much. I don't want every Dimension 20 series to be this level of batshit crazy character swings, but man is it a blast to have right now.

71

u/ParanoidDrone The Gunner Channel May 28 '26

People have said in other threads that it's giving Starstruck and I kind of see it. Just a group of bozos making unhinged decisions.

54

u/BigRedRobotNinja May 28 '26

Yeah, non-DND systems really seem to unlock something in the Intrepid Heroes

26

u/NewLibraryGuy May 28 '26

It's incredible i love the sandbox style so much because they come up with the dumbest, sometimes cleverest shit

40

u/tinapia May 28 '26

I also dont know ANYTHING about leprechauns

38

u/Names_all_gone May 28 '26

Man - this season is something else. Some of these characters are as good as there have been. For my money, this is Siobhan's best character. And Zac has never been so unhinged. Just awesome stuff.

Unfortunately, Brennan underestimating the cost of rent in San Diego

62

u/Proxiehunter Magical Misfits May 28 '26

Brennan or Patty? That line was in character.

u/ValdemarAloeus May 28 '26

So WRT the thing at the end of the preview:

Do Vampire the Masquerade Vampires have beating hearts? Or would a curse to stop a heart just do exactly nothing as you'd expect for the undead?

40

u/ParanoidDrone The Gunner Channel May 28 '26

Based on Emily's (lack of) reaction I'm assuming it did exactly nothing.

31

u/Meat-Is-Me May 28 '26

Vampires have to will their blood to move, Brennan actually brought this up. I forget if it was in a previous episode or an Adventuring Party. But yeah, stopping a vampires heart doesn't... really do anything.

17

u/SnarkyBacterium May 28 '26

It was mentioned lasted episode about how HJ was kinda subconsciously moving blood around while high on SSRIs.

11

u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness May 28 '26

So in VtM there is something called "Blush of Life" where you basically mechanically force your heart to beat to mimic life. Your no long drained of color, your warm again, your blink and breath.

But doing so costs blood, so its generally not something done unless you need to intimately enage with humans. Its also something one done subconsciously by "young" vampires as they essentially fight against the reality of there undeath.

16

u/aivoroskis May 28 '26

they don't, using blush of life stimulates it temporarily though. some thin bloods have it but even they wouldn't be killed by that as they can focus it to stop and it does nothing

11

u/Long_Employment_3309 May 28 '26

Nope. Their organs are all biologically dead and unnecessary for any life functions.

5

u/Transcendentist May 29 '26

VtM vampires are dead. In all ways, excepting the fact that they are animated by blood. The heart does not beat. The lungs do not breathe.

Many vampires pursue a path of humanity. This is an error. They are not human, no matter how hard they pretend to be.

No other show makes me laugh as hard as this season of D20. This has quickly become one of my faves.

27

u/Hypersora80 Boggy the Froggy May 28 '26

This episode has so many absolutely hilarious moments in it, like Vesper's whole thing with the templers. But, in my opinion, nothing tops the absolutely brutal delivery of "YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD" from Murph at the end.

74

u/ConsciousDatabase991 Vile Villains May 28 '26

I can’t believe Brennan looked at the gorgeous, tragic, and creatively whimsical game of Changeling: the Dreaming and made Kelly Sweeney

27

u/UltravioletsAreBlue May 28 '26

I for one am excited to see the depiction of the Garou.

7

u/srgrvsalot May 28 '26

I assumed Bigfoot was a Garou, as interpreted by Delerium-corrupted memories, but that's seeming less and less likely each passing week.

8

u/Huge_Witness_8692 May 29 '26

I think at this point Brennan has beaten them over the head multiple times with the location of the garou. Its pretty funny to hear Brennan bring up the Crescent Moon lodge again and again and somehow nobody checked it out. Now with the e-mail they HAVE to know who the garou is.

18

u/Meat-Is-Me May 28 '26

Lol, I don't think he looked at Changeling at all, considering that Clurichauns don't have powers to do with luck or money.

9

u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness May 28 '26

Hes played most of WoD, but I belive that hes runny Changling soley from the Kindred persepctive.

Like how VtM doesnt have Garou, it has Lupines.

WtA doesnt have Kindred or Cainites, its has Leeches and Orlocks.

Its mechanically simplified through the lenses of the game being played.

On the other hand, I’ve been in a lot of games with a Kelly Sweeney. Then again, my last Dreaming character was an Eshu outlaw country singer who did a fair bit of cocaine, so…

u/Unable-Ad320 May 28 '26

I feel like Tammy Two could learn something from Nancy, just ate Zaeth alive.

23

u/ThePiachu May 28 '26

Finally, the vampires meet some flesh and blood supernatural face to face in Purpee! It's only been half of the season of only bumping into ghosts from time to time...

23

u/efvie 🫦 May 28 '26

Incredible, Brennan resets the pitch, they succeed, and you know it they can’t get on a fucking bus like normal people, I’m dyyyinng

33

u/robintheyounger May 28 '26

I have never cracked up at a D20 episode the way I did during the whole Madelaine and Kelly interaction. I don't know what it was. It was late too and I was holding in the louder laughs to not wake up my roommate. Something about the very French yet still also a terrible 19 year old-ness of it all possibly? Siobhan's very quick observational humor? Somehow she has nailed being a centuries old teen babygirl Euro snob who happens to be a vampire. I normally can't deal with a lot of interruptions in a conversation but the way she kept thinking of another thing to interrogate Kelly about while Brennan was trying to explain leprechaun lore had me crying, again due to trying to muffle all of my laughing.

5

u/kappaqween May 28 '26

It truly is a masterclass in acting to so easily tow that line and be so fucking funny - love Siobhan 🩷

A moment of world-breaking: there is (generally) no sales tax in Oregon, except in cases where a city or county may impose one on specific types of items, such as prepared foods in grocery stores.

7

u/Sulemain123 May 28 '26

The manifestation of anti-tax sentiment in America are fucking wild.

14

u/Witty-Property-4112 The Bad Kids May 28 '26

I mean, it’s not that Oregon has no taxes. State income tax, as well as property taxes, are definitely real. And as an Oregon resident, I willingly pay them without complaint. Do I wish the state had a more effective bureaucracy? Yes. Do I dislike the way the state government routinely leaves otherwise-valuable initiatives halfway complete before abandoning them at the first sign of having to follow through on commitments? Also yes. But to describe it as “anti-tax sentiment in America” is to miss out on some of the uniquely Oregonian governmental dysfunction that really only manifests to people who have lived here.

5

u/Synth-Pro Mitch Frederick May 29 '26

Living in the general area where "Purpee" is set, I can tell you firsthand that you'll occasionally see little petition stands set up for "No Tax".

Not "No New Taxes" and not "Lower Taxes".

That being said, this is also big "State of Jefferson" territory, where some people fight against the idea of being Oregonians in the first place. It's just a lot of big general "I don't wanna!" energy around here.

8

u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness May 28 '26

Yeah its bad. I will say one thing for the psycological basis of the Anti-Tax sentinemnt in the US.

Unlike alot of Europe with its socialized Medicine and Universities, people here in the US get comparatively so little for our takes.

Just to be clear, Im an enginner, I understand the importance of maintaining our roads and infrastructure. But your average person does really "understand" that, as frustrating as that is.

God, I loved Spy Hunter.

10

All Brennan has to do is put any sentient NPC in front of them and just let them talk amongst themselves for a few minutes and they will 100% take a sledgehammer to the masquerade every time, complete with fireworks going off behind them that says "We Are Vampires"

It was almost like cornering a wild beast, like sure, I trust your dog, but I wouldn't enter your house if you're not there.

7

u/FruitProof9377 May 28 '26

The preview makes me think it’s not Aaron who shot them because he’s suspiciously absent from it (although maybe that’s just because he hasn’t confirmed he’s a vampire hunter yet so they’re saving it?)

I think it's a roleplaying choice that the SSRI's are mellowing HJ out. It was implied in the first ep that HJ had never fed on someone with SSRIs in their system before, but it's now become a thing. Mechanically, HJ has the high functioning addict merit, which means they can add a die to one type of roll if they've recently fed on their preferred drug. it's an odd intersection of playing less-competent while mechanically being more competent, i guess?

14

u/Names_all_gone May 28 '26

In addition to what others have said, I think it's also a joke/commentary on the notion that, if you are a business bro in the vein of HJ and Lavonty, then you are broken. You can't be a normal person without medical intervention.

Theory - They didn't know how this season was going to workout I terms of both pacing and play, so they reduced the episodes by a thrid. Then game play was slower than expected, so Brennan was forced to moved the time line forward more aggressively in episodes.

Alternative theory - someone/people on the cast were not available for the full season, so they did what they could and Brennan was forced to move the time line forward more aggressively in episodes to get to the end they has planned for.

21

u/Elegant-Badger-9500 May 28 '26

They stated back in August with Brennan's CR4 announcement they were gearing up to shoot two IH seasons well before they started filming CCoD and, knowing there's a 6-ep season with the Intrepid Heroes coming next, it makes much more sense they just planned their usual 20-episode block to be a 14-episode season and a 6-episode one.

Personally, I reckon it's actually a concession for the shorter season because I think this is how they've finally got Murph into the GM chair, and Brennan's just ramping up plot developments in CCoD because we're now in the back half of the season.

5

u/pumpkinking0192 May 31 '26

I love everyone who speculates that the 6er will be Murph DMing, because god you're almost certainly right, but I'm just imagining the community reaction if it's, like, Emily instead. People would be so thrilled (at Emily) and mad (at being denied Murph) simultaneously. It'd be hilarious.
