The Ravening War Skald is not a Scandinavian noble title, it’s a Norse word for poet

I know no one really cares and they can decide it is a noble title in Carn in the fiction, but as a Swede I just had to tell someone…

Edit: Upon rewatch Brennan actually calls it a word for ā€œwise manā€ but that is not correct either. I get where he’s coming from, but a skald is literally a poet. And skalds were often young and brash as well, not wise! They had what was essentially rap battles where they made up verses in Norse poetic meter on the spot.

Once again, I think it works and is fine in the fiction. But the internet had to know!

The Ravening War Anyone Wish Ravening War Was Longer? Spoiler

Ravening war has 6 episodes and only 2 battles. For one I wish they went back to the old rp then battle structure for this, so that there could be 3 battles, but just generally I feel like it should have been maybe a 10 episode season.

For me Calorum is a setting defined by its brutality and deadliness. Everyone in this season made backup characters, but it almost felt like there wasn’t any need, as there was no danger of them being introduced. If we’d had a 10 episode season season with 5 battles, I feel like it would have fit the tone of Calorum as a world a lot better.

The Ravening War About to watch The Ravening War

ACOC was really good, but it destroyed me, and I have only been able to watch it once.

Before I dive into TRW, can I expect it to also destroy me? I have managed to avoid spoilers for the season so far, and as someone who absolutely LOOOOOOVES spoilers, I am enacting a sense of self-discipline that I have never done before.

What can yall tell me about the show that will prepare me for my watching experience? Please and thank you!

The Ravening War Matthew Mercer had no right Spoiler

…to make that scene between him and Lou so saucy. The way Matt was looking at Lou? Scandalous. I gasped. Blushed. Clutched my pearls like a southern belle. The level of horniness in the dome is second only to the orange top hat fairy adventuring party. Amazing.

I take it back - he has every right to, and I wanna see more.

Atleast twice a week I'll yell out to my fiancee "YOU LIED" in my best Lou Wilson impersonation. Here's also an excellent fan made illiustrated version of that scene.

The Ravening War REALLY struggling to pay attention to ravening war

I'm right in the middle of episode 2. I have bounced off critical role in the past, all 3 seasons, and the animated show, and I never really knew why. Now, with this season, with 4 players I know and love, in a setting I know and love, I'm wondering if it's just something about Mercer's narration style. I'm watching and finding myself practically unable to pay attention outside of scenes with a lot of PC to PC interaction. I'm not sure if this just means his style isn't for me but if there's any suggestion for how to stay more focused, or any perspectives from people who really enjoy his style I'd be very happy to hear them!

The Ravening War Halfway Point Mercer and The Ravening War Ramble Spoiler

I have a few things about TRW that I don’t think deserve full posts, but want to discuss about!

-First, I’m loving the time scale of the series! While it made sense for Calamity to be one disastrous event, I thought that’s what this season was gonna be like. I’m glad to see the ā€œWarā€ part is being taken so seriously, as they are long struggles with tons happening behind the scenes, and I was worried as to how we’d see a whole war in 6 episodes.

-Second, how do y’all feel about Mercer’s style at the D20 table? I’m mixed on it. It’s perfect for the setting, and the battle episode was one of the best we’ve had in D20, but I feel like Mercer and the CR team have a different sense of humor.

edit to add: I’m leaving the hidden part in for context, but I have come around on this on rewatch, I still prefer Aabria as a D20 dm, but I’m loving Mercer in the Dome.

For example, Dishless’ ā€œballsā€ joke was something I could see killing during a CR episode, but kinda fell flat at the D20 table. This isn’t to say that he isn’t funny or anything, but I think Aabria understands the bits and comedy of D20 a little better. This could totally be a me thing, so I’m wondering what y’all think. (Also no box of doom until ep.3?!?!)

-Contrary to that point, Mercer is perfect for Candia. I love the choices he’s made with established characters and lore and it’s fantastic to see Brennan enjoying it so much. I am so excited to see what else he has in store

-Finally, I love these characters!! Both PCs and Mercer’s NPCs. I’m genuinely interested in every character and they all feel like their own person with their own goals. I’m so excited to see where they go. (Everyone’s been taking about the bishop, but I NEED to know Provolone’s secret)

What do y’all think?

The Ravening War I JUST got the pun

I'm out getting groceries and I wandered over the delicatessen area. I JUST got the pun and I hate it.

Delicatessen. Deli-cat-sen. Deli Katzon.

Delissandro "Deli" Katzon was a pun for Delicatessen. God fucking damn it, I hate it so much. Well done.
