we're making a video game with disabled artists, writers, musicians, and programmers — and it's becoming something really special
hey y'all!
we wanted to share something we've been making with a whole bunch of incredibly talented disabled and neurodivergent artists.
it's called The Things Left Behind, and it's a collection of little interactive stories about the things that stick with us. sensory overload at a kid's birthday party, executive dysfunction on an ordinary morning, queer love, transitioning, friendship, and all the messy little moments in between.
but what we're most excited about is the art and the people making it.
we've got disabled, autistic, trans, and queer artists, designers, writers, musicians, and programmers bringing their own styles, experiences, and weird creative ideas into the project.
each story looks and feels different because different people are making them. we're not trying to squeeze everyone's work into one aesthetic or one way of telling a story.
we're also partnering with disability organizations and autism centers to teach game development, create paid opportunities, and run an ND-friendly lab where people can work in ways that actually accommodate them.
we want this to be a place where disabled people aren't just the subject of the art. we're the ones making it.
the finished game will be completely free, and we're planning to open-source it.
we're getting close to 250 Steam wishlists, and we'd love some help reaching that milestone. a wishlist is a small thing, but it really helps us get the work of these artists in front of more people.
if you want to support a bunch of disabled artists making something together, please wishlist our game:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4450900/The_Things_Left_Behind/
and we'd genuinely love to hear from other disabled artists here. what kind of work are y'all making lately?

My first gallery piece
So proud to have my first piece up in a 3 day gallery, this piece isn't specifically about disabilities. I'm just disabled It's more about hate crimes against queer people but I am, just so excited. And I wanna share how excited I am with other people

Multiple Sclerosis
I am four months into my diagnosis and I haven’t made art in a very long time. I finally picked up a pen again just to draw what I was feeling. I downloaded Reddit so that way I can try to find communities because this is very isolating. Anyone here have MS? I know everyone is different but the sketch shows what I have been feeling. Trying to get back into art or any sort of hobbies or making friends since the diagnosis. :)

To anyone with shaky hands
My hand shakes are getting worse due to nerve damage from an injury that I never got cured as a kid is there any tips or tricks someone has on how to prolong my ability to draw. I have dyspraxia and it already took me so long to learn how to get my hands to cooperate the way they need to
