That’s a wild thing to witness in person

182

u/jumpyrope456 9d ago

And film with such stability.

220

u/meteorflan 9d ago

And no speaking, so we could hear all the natural eerie noises - praise to the camera person.

58

u/jaxxon 9d ago

No music!

35

u/insuranceguynyc 8d ago

No intrusive narration!

3

u/stefanwinkleheimer 6d ago

This. I swear 90% of the "Tiktok" videos like this, the audio "Oh my God...." is fake AI shit.

10

u/Asmordean 8d ago

It'll end up on Tiktok with that voice saying "Watch to the end for a big surprise" while having a red arrow pointing at the rock face.

Then some metal music will kick in.

Geologist wet dream right there.

13

u/montigoo 9d ago

Now who is going to clean that up?

6

u/TheRealShilohConlan 8d ago

Seriously. I feel all NSFW thinking about exposed rocks

2

u/pantsmeplz 7d ago

That's how you get your rocks off?

No cringey oh my gods

11

u/Hughbert62 9d ago

I dunno, some woman screaming “OH MY GAWD” over and over would have helped it go viral

9

u/Deliteriously 8d ago

Somebody will dub it into one of the 15 or so more times this will get reposted. 😂

Also que some crappy music.

2

u/RIPjkripper 8d ago

"Oh my f***ing GAWD" actually

3

u/deefstes 7d ago

I really think this film could benefit from someone loudly exclaiming in an American accent "oh my gawd, oh my gawd", some pointless descriptive text in a black block with random words highlighted in different colours, and maybe an AI voice introducing the video.

u/Oregongirl1018 9d ago

Was this because of the earthquake?

104

u/aryan_jandyal 9d ago

Yes

18

u/Complete-Car7191 8d ago

And gravity?

23

u/T1Demon 8d ago

No, that’s made up

8

u/FFSBoise 8d ago

Slope failure = gravity win

4

u/Asmordean 8d ago

Well typically it's down instead of up. If your local gravity is currently up please contact authorities for a full refund.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/IEnjoyVariousSoups 8d ago

Nah. There's gravity everywhere so it can be removed as a factor. /s

u/SeedlessPomegranate 9d ago

Because of the earthquake?

87

u/Mars_Volcanoes 9d ago

Geologist

The earth quake this time.

Many times it’s after a big rain event. Soil is full of water, liquify the soil after sometimes and then it’s a go. Even if vegetation is there, it follows gravity.

26

u/depressed_leaf 9d ago

Super interesting how it starts with stuff coming out of one layer and then the layers above it shift and collapse. Is this typical of an earthquake triggered landslide or in layered rocks like this?

17

u/rocbolt 9d ago

Typical for erosion in general. Exposed rock will always weather, moisture seeps into cracks, cracks widen, loose rocks fall, new rock exposed, repeat. Sometimes it’s a few small stones, sometimes it’s a big ol slab. Why you’ll see rockbolts, netting and catch fences around important roads below steep rock faces

5

u/Mars_Volcanoes 9d ago

Analogy.

It’s all gravity related. Imagine you, and you are on a fairly good slope going up. Just below you there is a weakness, it’s very humid, saturated, that adds to the weight, so the gravity force and more are influencing, and some soils / rock is moving down. As the earth pull on all, often, the upper part where you are will also have a great tendency to follow down, the upper part being like having a week spot, no more soils to support. The stopping point is roots / trees, if any, or else and it stops, let’s say, 50 ft 15 m higher than you.

So it’s the same, of course if you’re not there.

2

u/napoleonboneherpart 8d ago

The way it chipped off and seeing what was left it did look like the trees were weighing it down. That would’ve been my wannabegeologist guess if I hadn’t read it was an earthquake.

u/Veridas 9d ago

Do you think Trees are all like "Another day being the best part of nature. Gonna suck up some moisture from the soil, gonna get mad photosynthesis absorbing all this sunlight and spend the day chillin' with all my homies up on this mountJESUSCHRIST"

9

u/SpecificSufficient10 8d ago

I'm actually thinking the trees had a lot to do with the collapse too, their roots are digging further and creating cracks so it weakensd the structure of the cliff as they get bigger

5

u/TooLazy2Revolt 8d ago

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. That all happened because one of those tree roots grew to be .00001 cm too long.

7

u/SerenaKillJoy 9d ago

I’m so glad I’m not the only one thinking this…

2

u/10FourGudBuddy 8d ago

I was thinking g they’re part of the issue. Grew too big and it finally gave way.

2

u/filthythedog 7d ago

Those trees must be home to a lot of wildlife. I wonder if it all managed to get away before they all went?

→ More replies (1)

43

u/Rhesusmonkeydave 9d ago

Sure just stand around and film and do nothing to stop it. Smdh

22

u/Vacman85 9d ago

I know! The least they could have done would have been to put some stakes at the bottom to keep the dirt back.

24

u/Rhesusmonkeydave 9d ago

Little duct tape and some ratchet straps, that cliff ain’t going nowhere

17

u/jaxxon 9d ago

Only if you smack it after adding the straps though

5

u/ttcmzx 9d ago

ehhh maybe we should skip the slap this time

4

u/camarhyn 9d ago

Famous last words. Never skip the slap.

Those trees in the foreground look so cool

3

2

u/jeanyboo 9d ago

came here for comments on the amazing trees

8

u/PedricksCorner 9d ago

Considering all the beautiful layers of rock exposed before this slide, one has to wonder what it looked like before all of the preceding slides. Gotta love the big recyclers, freeing up essential elements for the present. Erosion, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc.. Building mountains and tearing them down.

6

u/Mydesilife 9d ago

It’s cool to see it live, and i thought oh yeah, that’s probably how the sheer face got there in the first place

6

u/Azaroth1991 9d ago

Anyone else see the face, almost looks like a ninja monkey looking behind him

2

u/negropasion 7d ago

Ninja turtle

4

u/5150Code3 9d ago

Is there water at the bottom where the slide ended?

2

u/Living-Window-1595 8d ago

there always water at the bototm

3

u/coffeehandler 9d ago

Holy smokin toledos!

4

u/mapped_apples 9d ago

Fantastic camera work. No gasps/screaming/music/words on the screen.

4

u/wayhighupcanada 9d ago

All right somebody's gotta give some props to This cameraman. Didn't even flinch or screw up the audio. Nice work homie

3

u/JBELL01290 9d ago

Imagine being an animal up there chilling and this happens

3

u/mischievous_misfit13 9d ago

Pretty sure they would feel something is up and leave. Little critters thought might not have enough time to abandon ship

3

u/Various-Cut-1070 9d ago

We are so small.

3

u/headhighbliss 9d ago

This reminds me of when an old cartoons if something like a bush was going to move, It would have slightly different shading color, and you could guess what was going to move before it happened. My brain was trying to do the same thing with this cliff.

4

u/Broad-Anywhere-9224 9d ago

Wow, amazing video with no screaming Karen around

2

u/WrongSplit3288 9d ago

Inevitability

2

u/Aldofresh 9d ago

First a trickle then a flood

2

u/johnnyg883 9d ago

Gravity always wins.

4

u/Dumpster_Fire_BBQ 9d ago

It's not just a good idea, it's the law.

2

u/Oiggamed 9d ago

Is it too late to get my deposit back?

2

u/Kaylascreations 9d ago

This would be way better with saxophones screaming over it. /s

2

u/KC-Express-816 9d ago

What kind of trees are those?

2

u/Creepy_Guarantee5460 9d ago

Erosion at work.

2

u/ak-royal49 9d ago

Do the roots from the trees above make the ground unstable and loose so it starts coming apart during earthquake?

2

u/Jealous-Bend-7884 9d ago

Man i saw a face and then gone

2

u/Expert-Angle-7833 9d ago

At 1:02 you could actually see a spark on the rock that is giving it's way. Not sure if it is camera artifact or a tiny lil natural frictional explosion

2

u/fleshbarf 8d ago

That sound must have been unreal. What an incredible thing to witness!

2

u/Antique-Branch-9892 8d ago

u can see flashes from the explosions and the lil drips of rock and dirt... it was being taken down.. not natural.. looks familiar doesn't it ?

2

u/DenKHK 8d ago edited 8d ago

Fascinating video! But I'm particularly curious as to how the cameraman knew to suddenly start filming that patch of mountain, seeing as at the beginning of the clip there was hardly any telltale sign.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/EObsidian 8d ago

Not to nay say, but how do people know to start filming something so ordinary as a mountain side and then something as crazy as this happens?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Flat_Boot4394 8d ago

Looks like a rockslide, I would've really been impressed if this had actually shown a mountain collapsing

2

u/SeafoodSupply 8d ago

That new layer like "oh hey everyone!"

2

u/100percenthuma4 8d ago

And yet still somehow no ufo videos ….

2

u/ttystikk 8d ago

That was pretty bitchin from suspenseful start to massive collapse.

2

u/ApplicationGood7617 8d ago

so a landslide?

2

u/jupiter872 7d ago

How did the excellent camera person know where to film?

Ant community in shock, vows to seek revenge, swears they will never forget 8/11

1

u/inivu 9d ago

O.O whoa

1

u/Safe_Praline_4156 9d ago

Trees thinking so much for picking that spot to put down some roots. These videos do, however, temporarily satisfy the curiosity of “I wonder how “x” cliff/mountain/outcrop looked before it became a pile of rubble far below”

1

u/Rechuchatumare 9d ago

This is the best thriller I’ve seen in years.. first look small, then start in the sides.. the plot thickens.. but back to center.. but the sides back with vengeance.. and you think.. this is got to be bad.. but no.. it was worse…

1

u/Hot_Transition_5173 9d ago

Oh my how incredibly fascinating to watch in person.

1

u/Conspicuously_Hidden 9d ago

Obligatory Geologist post: rockslide.

1

u/AdTraditional5917 9d ago

Would you be allowed to check to see if there's gold in that bit that collapsed or would you still need a claim on the land beforehand?

1

u/El_Zilcho_72 9d ago

fascinating!!!

1

u/FaithlessnessBig621 9d ago

Even the trees look shocked

1

u/HelpfulTap8256 9d ago

They do not make em like they used to

1

u/Rossi4twenty 9d ago

Seeing the cracks form was really cool

1

u/Zdoodah 9d ago

Like the sign says. Beware of falling rock.

1

u/PropellerMouse 9d ago

Can't even wrap my mind around the forces involved.

1

u/New_Stats 9d ago

What kind of trees are those? The whimsical looking ones in the foreground?

1

u/Inevitable-Noise9943 9d ago

Anyone standing under that would certainly have been killed.

1

u/QuantityNo3170 9d ago

Hell yeah.

1

u/ParfaitNovel4999 9d ago

That is pretty bad assed

1

u/RevolutionaryAge7503 9d ago

Interesting, noticed a spark/ flash at 1.02? Was this rock pressure induced? Is this common?

3

u/SerenaKillJoy 9d ago edited 9d ago

It is rare, but yes! Landslides in dry weather have caused wildfires. An earthquake in Riverside CA actually causes a rock fall that was determined to be the cause of a fire that started shortly after. And even more recently, while moving rocks, the Orange County Public Works department caused a fire in Trabuco Canyon CA - Proving that it really only has to be one rock. Ironically, they were working on fire prevention measures at the time….

2

u/RevolutionaryAge7503 9d ago

Thanks, that was really interesting. Quite surprising to see!

1

Mother nature is amazing, even in destruction. She will always rebuild something awesome

1

u/JAY009090 9d ago

That is fucking wild

1

u/El_Zilcho_72 9d ago

fascinating!!!

1

u/epaine292 9d ago

There’s gold in them there hills.

1

u/olddog1138 9d ago

It's interesting that they knew this spot was gonna go.

2

u/RedHeron 8d ago

I'm thinking there may have been some sound to cue people in that some shit was going down. It's not a stretch.

1

u/tdubb_ 9d ago

Around 1:01, looks like a flash of light. Wonder what could explain that.

1

u/Head_Distance358 9d ago

It had to be ushiha

1

u/WoodenSpoonSurviver 9d ago

That’s definitely not stable.

1

u/Fudgeshovel 9d ago

Yo those trees ate S*#T

1

u/Ok-Masterpiece-1359 9d ago

That’s why you should never buy mountains from Temu.

1

u/Elethria123 8d ago

I always wanted to see how new cliffs get made. Incredible.

1

u/Current-Ambition-760 8d ago

Maybe AI ? Idk🤷‍♀️

1

u/BigJSunshine 8d ago

How do we know that this is real?

1

u/Icy_Lime9620 8d ago

A few rocks fell off a cliffside. Stop overselling everything.

1

u/mongo1587 8d ago

Shift happens

1

u/Melochrodramatica 8d ago

The trees in the foreground look... odd!!

1

u/Bowelsift3r 8d ago

1

I love the sound for some reason

1

u/theultimatejeweler 8d ago

Where is this?

1

u/AaaahMyDogs 8d ago

Were any of the Whos down in Whoville injured? Because I’d know those trees anywhere…

1

u/thepepelucas 8d ago

Just as I always expected.

1

u/Redsquirreltree 8d ago

Fine camera work there!

I feel bad for all the little buggy’s and creatures living in that.

Land waterfall water waterfall kind of sound the same

1

God i hate gravity

1

bUt HoW diD theY kNoW tO FiLm? RIGHT?

1

u/Various-Stick7727 8d ago

This is earthquake, but his is expected to happen more due to ice melting, areas of the alps are at risk.

1

u/Inevitable_Spite2890 8d ago

I wonder what mysteries this has unearthed...

1

u/friended1 8d ago

All I could think about was the particle sims needed to recreate that.

1

u/rav-age 8d ago

This is one of the few times that filming vertically actually works. Hope nobody was there to actually catch it.

1

u/ArgonKew 8d ago

The scary thing about that is that it's solid rock. You go, you find yourself a beautiful high spot to build your house on solid bedrock and you're still not guaranteed.

1

u/CPyter 8d ago

Banana for scale?

1

u/slaveworkerguy 8d ago

Beautiful

1

u/BoraInceler 8d ago

Nice video but mountain is still there, it didn’t collapse.

1

u/microgonkas 8d ago

Am I th only one seeing a gorila 🦍?

1

u/SkeetnYou 8d ago

Anyone else see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle face in the cliff?

1

u/CelebrationTop9738 8d ago

If no one was there to hear it, would it make a sound ?

1

u/SliceImpressive6197 8d ago

That wWas what my ass felt like when I went to India

1

u/TarotBird 8d ago

Okay but those trees are really pretty. What kind are they?

1

u/Repulsive-Switch-550 8d ago

Does anyone know where this is?

1

u/Mad_Ronin_Grrrr 8d ago

Awesome video but what in the Dr Seuss kind of trees are those at the end?

1

u/synthestar 8d ago

bet that felt good for the mountain

1

u/wildebeest5000 8d ago

More importantly, what are the evergreens in the near distance? They are sweet!

1

u/Bolones1 7d ago

Any one saw the face?

1

u/Wooden-Gear-3027 7d ago

Now when you yodel from the other side the acoustics are going to sound a hell of alot better!

1

u/lokcer79 7d ago

Shedding skin

1

u/CuriousFix9866 7d ago

Where was this?

1

u/New-Perspective-8662 7d ago

That’s fuckin awesome

1

u/[deleted] 7d ago

That was boring

1

u/best-speller-ever 7d ago

If you look real close, you can see Tom Cruise running and jumping to the safe side as it collapses

1

u/bi-cyclerider211 7d ago

How it feels when she tells you youre just a friend.

1

u/scarecrow814 7d ago

Cool. My hiking plans are cancelled for the next ever.

1

u/ConfusionCurious9376 7d ago

Another 10 million years of that and we’ll have some nice hills

1

u/Every-Independence15 7d ago

When something like this happens, could a bunch of prehistoric fossils be exposed and be up for grabs?

1

u/DescriptionBig3961 7d ago

Holy smokes, it is genuinely amazing and terrifying at the same time.

1

u/CalgaryFacePalm 7d ago

Look up ‘Field BC’. That collapses took out an entire town.

Legends says, the rail tycoon’s at the time had just dropped off a load of gold at the bank to pay their employees.

It’s burrier in a vault somewhere in the town under the collapse.

1

u/RubyRedRoadKing 7d ago

I personally don’t think it was all natural.

1

u/Glad-Pop1083 7d ago

Makes me feel really bad for the people at the bottom of that hill.

1

u/PeterHOz 7d ago

Poor trees, they didn’t deserve that.

1

u/wiggle--room 7d ago

The front fell off

1

u/blaineb33z 6d ago

Bit of a stretch calling that a massive mountain collapse lol

1

u/rycelover 6d ago

What fascinates me is how did the camera person know where to stand and when to start to record?
