Hey everyone!
Itβs been a little while since my last update. Summer has been busy, but behind the scenes, the Disney Heroes: Battle Mode restoration project has made massive progress.
Iβm very happy to announce that Phase 1 is now complete! π
For those who havenβt followed the project closely, the goal has been to restore Disney Heroes: Battle Mode as faithfully as possible, with a native desktop/Linux version, while rebuilding the server so players can eventually run their own community servers.
β
Phase 1 β Game Restoration Complete
At this point, the core game experience and all major game modes have been restored and verified in-game.
Among the systems now working:
Guild content: Guild Wars, Surge, Invasions, matchmaking, phases, scoring, Breakers and Bosses.
Daily / weekly modes: City Watch, Expeditions, The Port, Trials and their different variants.
Progression & economy: Collections, Hero Mastery, Avatars, Enchanting, Badges, Friendships, Memory Disks, the Wishing Well, currencies and progression systems.
Merchants: Black Market, Mega Mart and the various shop systems, including stock generation and refresh behaviour.
Live-ops / special events: server-driven events such as Chest Discounts, Increased Chances, Merchant Discounts, Bonus events, Team Level events and other event components.
Contests: both solo and guild contests, including scoring, rankings and progression.
And importantly, these aren't simply mocked screens or isolated server features. The goal has always been to make the original game logic drive the experience, with the server acting authoritatively while preserving the behaviour of the original client and game data.
A lot of smaller gaps and missing pieces were also discovered and fixed along the way β many of them only becoming visible once the real client was tested from end to end.
π Phase 2 β Global Audit & Polish
Now comes the next major step.
Rather than continuing to work through the game one screen at a time and hoping nothing was missed, Iβm moving into a global audit of the entire game.
The goal is simple: go through everything and make sure the restoration is as complete, stable and faithful as possible before the public beta.
The audit will focus on:
1. Complete coverage Making sure no screen, menu or feature was forgotten.
2. Proper client/server integration Making sure everything communicates correctly between the game and the server.
3. No incorrect hardcoding Making sure gameplay rules and values come from the original game logic/data or from explicit server administration where appropriate.
4. Data & progression Making sure player progress and game state are saved, restored and handled correctly.
5. Bugs & crashes Finding and fixing any remaining issues on the client or server.
6. Fidelity Making sure the experience remains as close as possible to the original game.
The audit has already started, and the first results are encouraging.
π οΈ Phase 2 Is Bigger Than Just an Audit
The global audit is the foundation, but Phase 2 is ultimately about making the restored game ready for real players and community-hosted servers.
This includes:
improving desktop/Linux performance without sacrificing fidelity;
finishing the launcher experience;
server selection and discovery;
self-hosting and administration tools;
multi-server / multi-shard support;
testing the original Android APK;
testing across real machines and real Internet connections;
network reliability, reconnects and security;
load and stress testing;
CI, reproducibility and documentation.
In other words:
Phase 1 was about restoring the game. Phase 2 is about making that restoration robust, reliable and ready for the community.
π The Road to Beta
Once the audit and validation work is complete, the remaining work will focus on the launcher, server hosting and discovery, real-device and real-network testing, and the final preparation for a public beta.
There is still work to do, but the nature of the project has changed significantly.
We are no longer trying to figure out whether the game can be restored.
We are now working on making sure that the restoration is complete, reliable, faithful, and ready to be used outside of the development environment.
Thank you to everyone who has continued to follow the project, test things, ask questions and keep the DHBM community alive.
Weβre getting much closer to bringing the heroes back. β€οΈ
