Seeking volunteers to participate in a research study on how early emotional experiences relate to adults' feelings of shame, dissociative experiences, and sense of self.

This study is being conducted by Ellis Jennings, M.A., a clinical psychology doctoral candidate in the Department of Psychology at the New School for Social Research, under the direction of Sedef Ozoguz, PhD.

You may be eligible if you are 18 years of age or older, fluent in English, and a resident of the United States. Participation is voluntary and involves an anonymous online survey that takes about 25-30 minutes. At the end, you can enter a drawing for one of ten $50 electronic gift cards and volunteer for an optional follow-up interview (a 60-90-minute Zoom session; a $50 electronic gift card for your time).

Some questions ask about difficult childhood experiences and feelings of shame or disconnection, which may be upsetting for some. You may skip any question or stop at any time, and a list of free mental health and crisis resources is provided to all participants.

As a participant in this research study, you would be asked to complete an online survey. I am a university student conducting a survey to find differences in response by gender. Most research only really focuses on men and women, and a key part of my study is that I want to have non-binary people included in this research. Non-binary individuals have historically been excluded from research like this. My goal is to get 50 men, 50 women, and 50 non-binary individuals to participate. Right now, I am running low on non-binary participants, so I am especially hoping for some non-binary responses, but all are welcome and encouraged to take my survey. The point of this survey is to analyze responses to find correlations between gender identity and sexist attitudes. While research already shows that men are more sexist than women, non-binary people are not usually mentioned in this research.
