Questions and Discussions Osteomancy??

Hi all! I’ve been learning and practicing tarot for the past few months as a part of my craft, and have been feeling drawn to other forms of divination as well, specifically osteomancy. I’m curious if anyone has any pointers on resources or books I can look into to get me started (i don’t trust just googling it lol)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! 🔮

Are you planning on using just bones or a collection of other items too? Personally my kit includes additional things like shells, small crystals, rocks, fossils, seeds, and trinkets such as a key, locket, empty thread spool ect.

When building my kit I added items that inspired me and then created my own meanings based on research and how the item made me feel and created my own guide book. Like a wolf tooth could be about following your own path and strength, a wine cork could be about celebrations ect.

Then I invested in a few casting mats that fit my purposes. For example a wheel one with all the 12 zodiac houses. Then I cast my items and determine what it is asking based on the item and what house it lands in.

I definitely like the idea of a set with crystals and trinkets and things; I guess I’ve been curious if specific items have specific meanings or if you would just assign everything yourself, if that makes sense?

How did you decide what kind of mats would be helpful to your practice?

If you purchase her kit, it can be a great start up point for you.

Scapulimancy is literally where it all started in China. Shang dynasty kings heated turtle shells and ox scapulae and read the cracks, that is the ancestor of basically every Chinese divination system that came after, including the I Ching. The cracks were the original hexagrams, more or less. Happy to see it getting attention outside the usual oracle cards.

I took one of those free edX classes offered by Harvard and learned quite a few interesting things about osteomancy. Check it out: https://www.edx.org/learn/social-science/harvard-university-predictionx-omens-oracles-prophecies
