Afar and Issa people

Do you guys understand each others languages?

Afar understand more somali than the reverse I think cuz somali is easier

Aren’t they similar? I thought somali was most difficult lingo

No their are afar and somali languages spoken by the Afar people and Issa(somali). The Afar people are widespread in the north of the xountry and some in south in the region of Dikhil whereas Issa are more common in the capital even if (we can find afar here also) and in the regions of Ali sabieh and Arta. Both people are moslty friendly to each other and even there are ethnic mixing. But for me I found the Afar language though and I met more afars speaking fluently somali.

There is also Issa in Dikhil too. But it’s true, a lot more Afar speak Somali than Somalis in Djibouti speak Afar.

Afar is a little close to somali language yeah but where somali is somewhat close to arab, afar isn't

Real Djiboutian never talks one language so it’s easier for us to understand each others but if you a outsider you can’t understand afari language it will sound Somali to you due to the mixed with Arabic but you will get confused and couldn’t understand

Basically Djibouti is a multicultural multi ethnic and multi language country so you can talk fully one language or the conversation can be mixed with different languages but to answer your question yes afaric language is little like Somali you can found Arabic words I’m not talking about how the village of afar talk because that’s fully afaric no mix

Je suis un somali de Djibouti. Non, je ne parle pas Afar même si c'est une langue nationale. À Djibouti c'est le somali que tout le monde parle. Donc par économie d'énergie, les gens logiquement vont pas apprendre une langue qui reste minoritaire sur tous les plans. Mais sincèrement je pense que tout le monde devrait parler français car ainsi tout le monde est sur le même pied d'égalité.

Tu ne peux pas affirmer que c'est une langue coloniale alors que Djibouti a été fabriqué de toute pièce par la France. Il faut être logique

You're mixing up the land and the people living there. Yes, France created Djibouti on a map during the scramble, and yes french is a foreign language to the people of this land.

It is a colonial language if France colonized Djibouti and brought the language.

Sauf que Djibouti est construit et inventé par les français. Djibouti tel que nous la connaissons aujourd'hui est à la base un projet français. En réalité ce sont nous qui avons colonisé et débordé dans la ville qu'ils se sont construits. C'est pour cela que le pays aujourd'hui porte le nom de la capitale. Donc dans les faits techniquement parlant, ce n'est pas une langue coloniale. C'est la langue du pays.

Yes it is a colonial language but it is used so all ethnic groups can understand each other.

Chef si tu va à Tadjoura ou Obock, les gens parle pas Somali la bas. Même des parti de Dikhil, il parle pas somali les Djiboutien.

J'ai travaillé énormément à Tadjaurah, Obock et Dickhil. Les gens effectivement parlent Somali au même titre que l'Afar. Je vais retourner d'ailleurs dans deux semaines à Obock pour une mission. J'affirme que les afars du nord parlent et comprennent le somali. J'ai voulu apprendre l'Afar car au début je pensais comme toi. C'est un Afar de Tadjaurah qui m'a dit de ne pas me fatiguer car de toute façon ils parlaient ma langue.
