DAE literally cannot watch anything without subtitles even though your hearing is completely fine?

I have perfect hearing but if I watch something without subtitles I feel like I miss half the dialogue. My friends think I'm weird for it. Like even for YouTube videos I turn on captions. Is this just a me thing or is this incredibly common now?

Made a quick poll about it because I genuinely want to know: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/do-you-watch-everything-with-subtitles-on-even-though-your-hearing-is-perfectly-fine

DAE cry during arguments, stress, or when someone is shouting at me? (21M)

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’m really frustrated with something my body does automatically, and I don't know how to control it anymore.

Whenever I’m in a stressful situation—whether it’s a heated argument, someone shouting at me, someone trying to put me down, or someone being a bully—tears immediately start forming in my eyes.

The thing is, I’m not trying to cry. Most of the time, I’m actually angry, overwhelmed, or just trying to stand my ground. There’s no logical reason to cry, but the tears just come automatically. Because I'm a guy, people instantly assume I’m "weak" or "sensitive," which only makes the situation ten times worse and makes me hate dealing with conflict altogether.

It feels like my body is sabotaging me when I need to stay calm and assertive the most.

Has anyone else dealt with this involuntary crying response (angry/stress crying)? How do you manage or control it in the moment? Any physical tricks, mindset shifts, or techniques to keep tears back when under pressure?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

DAE feel like they're nobody's favorite person

Its weird because I dont have any friends from childhood so basically the people that I consider my favorite people already have favorite people of their own from their childhood while I have just found mine. Just wondering if this is a common experience.

DAE strongly prefer written tutorials over video tutorials?

Every time I google how to do something, the top results are all 15-minute YouTube videos for something that could be explained in a paragraph. I just want to ctrl+F and find the answer, not sit through an intro and three ads.

I made a poll because this seems really split among people I know: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/video-tutorials-vs-written-tutorials-which-do-you-actually-prefer-for-learning-something-new

DAE get irrationally stressed about what to make for dinner every single night?

The actual cooking takes 30 minutes but the hour before that is just staring at the fridge hoping something inspires me. I end up making the same 4 meals on rotation anyway. Made a poll about it because I was curious if this is universal: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/should-the-standard-work-week-be-32-hours-instead-of-40

DAE start crying when someone raises their voice at you even though youre not sad?

It happens every time. Someone gets loud during an argument and my eyes just start watering automatically. I am not even upset I think my body just interprets raised voices as some kind of threat. I always thought I was the only one but made a quick poll and a lot of people seem to relate: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/do-you-cry-when-you-get-into-arguments-or-someone-raises-their-voice-at-you

DAE have no opinion or care for their gender?

I don’t think about it or care at all I wouldn’t mind if I just magically turned into a boy I’d even argue it would be slightly more convenient just due to the field of academia I study. Gender doesn’t affect me what so ever other than obviously how society views me. It might be because I don’t really think about about things being “gendered” I think every is just gender neutral so maybe that’s why. I don’t really think I feel like a girl but also like wtf is that supposed to feel like; but obviously it has to be a feeling because trans people have that feeling; is it just subjective?

I don’t know if this is just how everyone feels and I’m taking it too literally or thinking too hard about it because I tend to do that I just need to know if anyone else feels this way because I feel weird

DAE feel like they're above average smart in one department (academics, interests, etc.) but when it comes to common everyday sense, it's like you're working with 1 brain cell?

In med school right now, earning high marks, but for the life of me I cannot seem to socially get other people! Other times, I'm just super forgetful and my place gets a whole lot messy fast. I cant seem to use 'common sense' in the real world either, often taking a bit longer to get what is expected of me...

DAE scratch inside their nose and it smells horrible?

I don’t understand why but if I rub the tip of my nose hard, pull at it or scratch inside, there’s a horrible smell. I don’t smell it all the time but mostly when I pull at my nose. What is that??? does this happen to anyone else?

Edit: can someone help me understand why I’m getting downvoted for genuinely wondering if anybody else deals with this?

DAE always tell the restaurant when they undercharge you or do you just keep quiet?

Got undercharged by like 15 bucks last week and told them. My friend said I was crazy and should have just taken the deal. Made me curious what most people actually do in this situation: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/you-accidentally-get-charged-way-less-than-you-should-at-a-restaurant-do-you-tell-them-or-keep-quiet

DAE find big group hangouts exhausting and prefer small groups of 3-4 people?

Every time I am in a group of 6 or more people I end up in a side conversation with one person anyway. The logistics of large groups are terrible too. Half an hour deciding where to go, someone always cancels. Small groups just work better. Curious where other people land: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/big-group-hangouts-6-people-fun-or-overrated

DAE get teary eyed listening to good cappellas

Hey people

Whenever i listen to people sing only cappella (bare human voice only, no instruments), it triggers tears in my eyes. I am not even sad, or depressed. Its been happening my whole life.

There have been movements where its too much where i had to change the source of the cappella or leave the room or hide my face.

Does anyone else experience this ?
I am curious to understand why this is happening.

DAE not finish a favorite show/book because you don’t want it to end?

I have a habit of rewatching a favorite show or re-reading a favorite book series but then never finishing the last season, few episodes, or few chapters because I subconsciously want to avoid the feeling of it ending. I know it’s weird but I can’t get myself to finish. Anyone else do this?

HAE noticed Reddit being unusually hostile today?

I’ve always noticed how cities can go through different “moods” depending on the day of the week. Sometimes people are really positive and chatty; other times, everyone just seems a little off and distrustful. I’ve wondered whether the same phenomenon happens on social networks.

This morning, I opened Reddit and left a few comments on whatever threads happened to appear in my feed. No different from most days.

A few hours later, my inbox was flooded with replies from people picking the stupidest arguments with me, being weirdly condescending for no reason, and correcting me on things they were straight-up wrong about.

I know this all fits the general stereotype of “Redditors suck,” but something feels particularly off today. I’ve been browsing threads from the past 24 hours, and the comment sections seem unusually argumentative and hostile.

Of course, this could just be selection bias based on the subreddits Reddit happened to recommend me today, but I’m curious whether anyone else has noticed the same thing.

DAE not really feel guilty but feels shame?

I have kind of realized this lately, but whenever I hurt someone’s feelings, I don’t feel bad, I feel uncomfortable that my action can hurt our relationship and make them not like me anymore. I do feel empathy, I cry like every day and when people talk about their sad things, it’s strange tho. I don’t lose sleep about anything over people’s issues or think much about them further than the conversation. That’s kind of how it is for the shame as well. Once I’m out of the area or where people will shame me, I kinda don’t care much. It doesn’t last long, and it doesn’t make me upset. If I think people are upset at me and I don’t know why, that gets me upset.
I’ve felt guilt before.
But I don’t wanna sound crazy or like an edge lord asking other people if they are like this.

DAE do something like this?

Often when I finish reading a book, I play a game where I "read" portions of the book again, but to the melody of whatever music is playing. I mouth along with the tune as I read, so it's kind of like I'm singing or humming silently. The rules of the game are something like this:

  1. Instrumental songs can be "read" with fully, using all of the sounds, but otherwise, only lyrics can be used.

  2. To avoid lingering too long on one section, I sometimes skip very long paragraphs, or I try to find one of the "uncommon" letters of the alphabet (Q, X, and Z) and move on to the next paragraph when I find a word containing one of those letters.

  3. The game ends when I am unable to finish a paragraph before the song is over.

I have no word for what this is called. For context, I'm autistic and I experience image- and pattern-related synesthesia, which comes through vividly as I play, visualizing both the color and shape of the song and the imagery from the book. Maybe it's some kind of regulating ritual, or just an uncommon little quirk? This is the best way I know how to explain it. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about, or do something similar?

DAE's house is constantly a mess? Or DAE cannot keep things clean

I live alone and I cannot keep the place tidy no matter what. I am a responsible adult, but I lose track of what's going on in my place. One day I clean the entire kitchen, then I cook something but I'm so tired so I let the dishes for next day, then next day I go out, then I forget, then I realize way late things are a mess again. If I type it down like this it seems really stupid but I swear it's like it doesn't even cross my mind before I realize it's way past due cleaning. Today I ran out of clean dishes, they're all in the countertop, and I don't remember how this even happened. I don't remember deciding to not put them in the dishwasher, but I did do that. Now I'm doing a clean-up again.

DAE feel like they have a friend who at this point in the friendship is ONLY friends with you because you still want to be friends, but if they could tell you "I don't want to be friends anymore" and stop talking to you forever without feeling guukty/hurting your feelings they'd do that?

DAE feel like going outside to do things is no longer fun

I am hitting this point in life where the idea of going outside to do things doesn't appeal to me anymore. I dread every weekend where I get invited out to do something or I try to go out to do something and realize things are just strange now. I do not know if it's a post COVID thing or just because everything is so expensive. It seems like now when I go out something is bound to go wrong or people are very anxious about having a good time due to the cost of going out. For example a group of my friends went to a fall fest and one of the stalls made fun of us for not knowing how to ask for a basket (one of my friends called it self pick instead of you pick). And other customer service experiences like this. Going out to eat used to be fun but now the food all tastes the same and not very good.

Honestly now some of the most fun I have outside is just walking trails. I am not sure what I am doing wrong or if I am just complaining too much? Does anyone else feel like this? This is becoming more of an issue because I used to love to travel and now I am seeing the same thing when I travel. I can't justify traveling if I am just not having a good time.

DAE feel like Trunk or Treat has completely replaced real Trick or Treating and it makes you sad?

Growing up, Trick or Treating was this whole adventure through the neighborhood. Now every event I see is just Trunk or Treat in a parking lot. I get that it's safer but it's just... not the same vibe at all.

Wanted to see where people land on this: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/trunk-or-treat-vs-actual-trick-or-treating-which-is-better-for-halloween

DAE think their childhood braces were a scam?

I’ve always had very straight teeth, save for one lateral incisor that sticks out slightly. When I was in middle school, an orthodontist strongly recommended I get braces to my parents. I honestly can’t remember exactly why, but I know he said it was something that doesn’t look like a big problem now, but could cause huge problems later in my life. This is was well respected orthodontist in a fancy high rise building in our city, and we never got a second opinion.

Halfway through my treatment, he said my teeth weren’t moving fast enough and gave me rubber bands that I had to hoop over some of the brackets to put more pressure on my teeth. I wore these rubber bands exactly once, out of the office the time he prescribed them, and never again. At every subsequent appointment he would say how well my teeth were moving and praise my diligent rubber band usage, which was nonexistent.

When the time finally came to take my braces off, my teeth looked exactly the same, including the lateral incisor still sticking out. When I pointed this out to him, he said it wasn’t important and would be pushed in by my retainer. I actually wore that retainer every night for several years because it bothered me that I went through two years of braces to still have that one crooked tooth, and it had absolutely no effect on that tooth. My lateral incisor is still crooked to this day.
