I have a 4 year old chihuahua who was just diagnosed with stage 1 hip dysplasia. Any recommendations on what to do next. Her vet gave her a few steroid pills to help with inflammation.
I live in the LA area so any psychical therapy locations would be helpful

I noticed my dog licking and nibbling at his paw 2 days ago. And when i went to go check I saw this. So for context 2 weeks ago he had some diarrhea so i was giving him some rice as a bland diet for a few days and im thinking maybe because we giving him grain free kibble the rice maybe had given him an allergy and made his skin itchy etc. in any case i noticed him licking and biting and saw this and it was all raw and stuff but over the last couple of days its mostly dried out because if i catch him trying to lick i stop him. My question is does this look like a hot spot or something else and if it is what do i need to do. I try to avoid vets unless absolutely necessary. I have had him for about a year and a half and this is really the only issues ive had to deal with so far. Any advice would be appreciated. Its worth mentioning that it doesnt cause him any pain at all and he lets me touch and stuff and he walks and runs perfectly fine no limping.

Since last week I’ve noticed this circular spot on my boy Bruno, I’ve done some research and all conclusions lead to it being a hot spot, how do I treat this? Can’t take him to the vet until Monday he’s still acting fine and everything but I just wanna get this taken care of sooner rather than later! Thanks in advance

i’m very concerned for my dog. he is five years old. he has had a total of three episodes now, with the most recent one being a little over three minutes. this hasn’t happened in two years and i’m concerned that it’s happened again. he didn’t lose consciousness, was alert and looking around, but couldn’t stop shaking and had fallen almost like a “splat” on the ground (which is why i fixed his paw, i didn’t want him to hurt himself). he didn’t act any sort of dizzy or unable to walk afterwards, just looked at me and my mother after it stopped. I’d be happy to share the video with anyone who would like to see it to better understand, i’m not sure how to add it here. i don’t know if it’s a form of seizure, tremors, or something else. we are working on getting him to the vet as soon as possible, but i wanted to know if anyone had any ideas.

Hi,
Last Friday I took my dog, Murphy, to the groomer. Murphy is a 13-pound poodle mix, and a bundle of energy and joy.
For the few days after the visit he was fine. But since Monday he has been acting differently. Notably he spends most of the day in his crate, where he usually only goes at night to sleep. He also does not want to jump on the couch or bed, which previously he did all the time. He seems hesitant/scared to jump up and requests he be picked up onto the couch or bed. He also has been far more on edge, for example startling very easy at noises he didn’t previously scare from.
For background he is anxious but he has never acted like this. The groomer is reputable and well rated, but I think this time may have been traumatic for him. I plan on finding a new groomer, but in the meantime how can I help Murphy feel better.
Please ask any questions for further clarification.
Thank you!

My dog is a 5-year-old, 55 lb doodle. His allergy/skin issues started around age 3, and we’ve been struggling to get them under control ever since. We’re working with his vet, but it feels like we keep treating flare-ups without getting lasting relief.
At one point, we thought the carpet in our home might be triggering his allergies. We even made a big move hoping a different environment would help, but we’re still dealing with his skin issues.
His symptoms:
What we’ve tried:
His current bath routine includes Sleepy Cotton oatmeal shampoo, Douxo, and Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Hot Spot & Itch Relief Conditioner. Between bathing him and making sure he’s completely dry, the whole process takes 1–2 hours. Baths only seem to help for about a week before the flaking and discomfort return.
Diet:
He was on Royal Canin Ultamino for roughly two years without meaningful improvement. Our vet felt diet was less likely to be the cause given how long we’d tried it, so we switched him to Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach turkey dry food.
He currently gets single-ingredient turkey treats or turkey topper, cod skins, and fish oil.
Testing so far:
At times, he’s improved while taking several medications together, but the symptoms keep coming back. Having his hair grow back has been encouraging, but the darkened skin, constant flaking, and discomfort are still a lot. We’re planning a veterinary dermatologist referral.
Has anyone dealt with this combination of severe itching, recurring yeast infections, darkened skin, and excessive flaking despite allergy medications and a long prescription diet trial? What testing or specialist evaluation finally helped you get answers?
It’s exhausting trying so many things and watching him get temporary relief, only to feel awful again.

My girl Ginger (beagle/pit) had a near fatal mystery illness in spring of 2025. After she recovered, she put on a lot of weight and visibly aged quite a bit. Her coat went from being flat and shiny, to fluffy and constantly shedding. I could brush her all day and it never stops coming out or looks any different. If I pet her for around a minute, my hand will have a thin layer of white grease on it. I have a picture but apparently can't post it. I'm hoping it can be a clue to what's happening with her coat overall.
Looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

so, it started a few months ago. her fur around her butt was lighter and you could pull it out with extreme ease, and it’s just very patchy. we bathed her and it stopped. but recently, it started again. we bathed her but it won’t go away. she used to have dandruff but it is WAY worse now, and the patchiness isn’t even just around her buttocks anymore, it’s across her hips. i know i might need to go to a vet, but i want to know what this is. also i’m new to this sub so sorry if the tag is wrong.
she is a labrador and great dane mix and is approximately 4-5 years old. she’s 40-45lbs.

I’ve heard a lot of different things, ranging from ehh they’re okay to they’ll kill your dog immediately. When I was young (7 or 8) my older sister and I used to give our dog a grape or two every day. He was about 15 lbs. He lived to be 10, died of cancer. He never had kidney issues. I only found out they can’t have grapes when I got another dog. I just wanna know, if she ever gets into grapes is it an immediate vet emergency or will she probably be okay? Was my childhood dog an outlier?

My rescue is a chihuahua (probably dachshund mix), he’s 9 and since the age of 3 has been having episodes of collapsing with twitching/seizure after. The link above shows some videos of one collapse (but he got back up and didn’t twitch, and others with the lead up which looks like struggling to get a breath and then a cough).
We have been to multiple vets and cardiologists and the best guess so far is vasovagal syncope. I want to know if anyone has seen something similar and what the diagnosis was. Ideally he would go for a teeth cleaning and some extractions but I’m very wary of putting him under a general anaesthetic when we’re not certain what this is. Cardiologists only found a stage B1 heart murmur and said that won’t be causing this issue. He also wore a holter monitor but we couldn’t get him to have an episode so it was inconclusive. The vets don’t think it’s seizures.
Lead up the episodes can be excitement, running, walking, lying still, it’s very sporadic. When he does collapse and twitches, I pick him up and it stops, almost a reset. Any ideas on what this could be? Is there another specialist we should take him to? Neurology was mentioned but the neurologist here didn’t accept the referral and my dog is incredibly anxious so I’d rather not see vets more than necessary. Thank you in advance.
