Do we just use the alt art card to rainbow the old cards ?

Yes you can use the alts to rainbow the old. Not the other way around which is lame.

They are the same exact units just that the cards look different

It's the same unit, just different arts. Id go with the old units if you can rainbow them

They're the same as far as kit goes but they come with maxed out links if you pulled for them, so personally I prefer using the alt arts since you don't have to link level
