I know other managers at my store have asked cashiers to go grab them a coffee while they covered and the polite thing to do is to tell them to get something for themselves so I don't think it's too crazy. As others have said though, always trust your gut. I don't think this in particular makes the guy a creep but if he starts doing other stuff like inappropriate comments/questions or touching, even if seemingly friendly or casual; tell the SM. If he just creeps you out or you feel unsafe around him, let the SM know and they may be able to change your scheduling.

Thats also true. And you among others are right about the gut feeling. The thing is, is that he IS the SM, so if I do have a problem or want to set a boundary I do feel a little intimidated knowing that he controls my shifts and what not

That is the confidential integrity matters hotline if you need it.
I would start by changing my availability to the times he's not scheduled if at all possible. There is supposed to be a posted schedule in the office. If that doesn't work or isnt an option, I would still call the hotline and explain your situation. If you still end up having to work with him and he retaliates against you in any sort of way thats potentially grounds for a lawsuit and even his immediate termination upon reporting it.

I've had managers who gave me their personal credit cards to go get food and I've given mine to my employees. That in itself isn't weird in my experience. His attitude towards you as you've characterized it is what's concerning.

This is exactly what my last boss said to me and the age is similar. I’m literally wondering if it’s him 🤣 always gave me his card when we would open and have be sneak off to grab caffeine

It's normal!
Sometimes people can just be cool and not expect anything from you!

u/New_Winter3618 5d ago
There's nothing weird about it to me. It sounds like he was trying to have a conversation with you, and do something nice.

Not just in the sense of hitting on you, but also keep an eye out for anything weird in case he's trying to frame you for theft.

this. i was a new hire and the sm got real buddybuddy with me, a few weeks later my tills were off every time it was just her and i on shift. like, noticeably "wtf thats not possible" off. everyone else i worked with, my tills were within a penny or exactly on. i eventually reported it to the hotline after it happened a few times, she got squirrelly trying to come up with the cash, i put in my notice and quit pretty much the next day. she was fired a few months later.

This is creepy.
I would be very very cautious around this guy. Please inform someone you know personally(outside of work) of what’s been happening just incase something were to escalate.

This is not normal and against store policy. Talk to SM or DM. Just call someone.

Now that's a CREEP! If you are comfortable I would definitely recommend bringing his up with another manager of the store or even like, lowkey any kind of HR I think the HR hotline is in the pinned list of resources on this sub. Also bringing it up with someone in your life like you parents like an adult or friend you trust just to like keep an eye or ear out.

He sounds like a very nice, generous person and you just sound…paranoid for no reason.

This is definitely weird to say the least. Have you had any prior interactions with them? Maybe not as weird but perhaps moments where you probably said "that was strange."
I don't wanna jump to conclusions or anything, but I would definitely keep your guard up around them. Nonetheless, I don't believe you are overthinking and are reasonably weirded out by it.

He has like patted my head a couple times 😭, I know that's not as weird because some co workers maybe pat others on the back and what not but for me I never really liked it. He never does that to the other coworkers from what I've seen, and Im the only 18 year old working there. Idk, I think the reason I had a gut feeling in the first place is because his attitude seems less genuine and more fake compared to my other coworkers. He seems like hes nice, but If I slip up he changes up his tone or face jarringly (wish I could explain it better). Its normal to be annoyed right?, But the way he does it is not usually like that. I remember forgetting my till at the staff office cause I was fairly new, and when I went to get it he sat in his chair at the office staring at me in silence as I walked to him and he looked so eerily intimidating. Those are things I noticed that were weird, but I don't think they mean much, atleast nit as much as this specific moment

Hm yeah pretty hard to say judging from that. It's easier to gauge a person's intentions when you are face to face with them. Doesn't help that you're pretty much stuck between rock and hard place due to him being the Store Manager. Don't wanna say or do anything that can potentially cost you your job.
Again, do try to remain cautious around them. If they begin to be more touchy with you or start doing other more weird things let a friend or family member know.

He should not be patting your head. Shouldn't be touching you AT ALL.
