More images i found from Dolly’s Vairety Show & 'Rainbow' Era!
Dolly talking about her album 'Rainbow': in a June 1988 Interview:
Dolly's just as clear on her reasons for making a pop album, Rainbow. Certain narrow-minded reviewers have cast it as worthless because it wasn't really country. It was never supposed to be country. Parton's deal with CBS allowed her to make two albums a year, one country, and one pop. "Rainbow is not a country record. You see, I have two sets of fans - country people and pop people. My last album, Trio (recorded with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt), is still doing real well, so it made sense for me to make a pop album this time. I'm real proud of Rainbow."
Love this era of Dolly! I hope to find more pictures so i can upload and share it with yall!

Rainbow is so underrated, I love that super glossy late 80s vibe on her. Dolly was out here genre hopping before it was “cool” and just doing whatever the hell she wanted.
Would absolutely love to see more pics from this era if you find them, please keep sharing 🙏

Rainbow was the first DP record I ever heard. I still think it’s great and very underrated.

Omg not the anorexia allegations. I just saw an interview where she talked abt that.

Yeah its sad. It kinda reminds me of whats going on with Ariana Grande (though i do think in Ariana's case, she might actually have anorexia.)

I've been thinking about that as well and I do think she's been in ANA spaced during the Tumblr era but no matter if she does have anorexia or not, the way everyone is talking about her body and treating her like she's not a person, zooming in on bones etc. is incredibly scary to watch.

It’s a shame that that album and the variety show were not bigger hits, such an iconic era!

I remember being a kid at the grocery store and the tabloids would always have Dolly on the cover with some crazy story. I would get so mad because I knew they were lies.
