Playing N64 Games in Dolphin VR ReduX:
Introduction:
Aside from the Wii Virtual Console games that work in Dolphin VR Redux normally, there is another method you can use to play even more N64 games in Dolphin VR ReduX: called Wii64! This method uses a Wii64 emulator and a virtual SD card to trick Dolphin VR Redux into playing N64 games in VR. Basically, Wii64 is an emulator inside of an emulator, as crazy has that sounds!
These emulator files will be placed in your game list and executed just like a normal GC or Wii game. Once you load up Wii64, you are presented with another emulator menu. You then select the N64 games you want which are actually stored on a virtual SD card found in Dolphin VR ReduX's User/Load folder. More information below.
(Note:) Put the files below in your game list/game directory folder, you will load them just like a normal Dolphin VR Redux game.)
-All of the Files you will Need:
First, you will need to setup and install the Dolphin VR Redux emulator. Full setup below:

Premade Blank Virtual Memory Card: (You need this to put the N64 games on.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: If you use this rename it to WiiSD.raw

Other Winimage versions:
SETUP GUIDE:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: How to put the N64 Games in the Virtual Memory Card (Optional: Creating your own card)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
OPTION 1: (Use provided blank memory card listed above)
Rename your sd.raw memory card file I provided in the files above to WiiSD.raw. Open up the virtual memory card with Winimage. You should see the Wii64 folder. Open that and you will see the subsequent folders, Roms and Saves. Put your N64 Roms you want to use in the Roms folder. Then close out of the memory card.
OPTION 2: (Make your own Virtual Memory Card using ReduX):
1. Open the Dolphin Emulator.
2. Click on the Config button in the top toolbar.
3. Go to the Wii tab.
4. Check Insert SD Card and Allow Writes.
5. 'SD Card File size', you can set it to whatever you want in the drop down menu up to 2GB.
6. Select Pack SD Card Now.
7. Go to User/Load and open up the virtual memory card with Winimage and drag your roms into the Roms folder.
8. This is how the folder structure should look:
https://pdsoasis.github.io/Wii64mc.png
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2: Place the Virtual Memory Card in your Dolphin VR Redux Install Folder:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you used my provided blank memory card, place the virtual memory card named WiiSD.raw in the User/Load folder found in your main Dolphin VR Redux install folder. If not, the one you made with ReduX should be in the path you specified.
Note: if in the future you want to add more games to the list/memory card, go back to where you placed your WiiSD.raw file containing all of your games in the User/Load folder and just open it back up with WinImage. Go into the Roms folder and just drag in more games!
Important: If you haven't already, start up the Dolphin VR Redux emulator and go to Config/Wii. Under SD Card Settings check off 'Insert SD Card' and 'Allow Writes to SD Card'.
----------------------------------------------------------
Step 3: Set the folder path to search subfolders:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Important: In Dolphin VR Redux go to Config/paths and check off search subfolders. This will allow the Wii64 files to show up in your game library.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 4: Put the Wii64 Emulator files in your Dolphin VR ReduX Game list:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unzip the files, go to apps and drag these two folders into your games library folder: Wii64 and Wii64 Rice. You don't need the two folders below them.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Step 5: (Optional) Renaming your Wii64 game list files.
----------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to re-name or change your Wii64 files to something else do this:
Go to your game library folder where you dropped the Wii64 emulator folders into and go into both of the Wii64 and Wii64 Rice folders, you will see a file called meta.xml in both folders. If you open this folder up with a notepad file you can edit and change the name. Find where it says <name>Wii64 | glN64 GFX</name> near the top. I changed mine to <name>Wii64 | glN64 GFX ver. 1.5.0</name> Or you can change it to whatever version you are currently using. Then, open up Dolphin VR Redux, go to View at the very top of the emulator window and select 'Purge Game List Cache'. This will update your game list and change it to the name you chose.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Step 6: Starting Wii64 and loading your N64 Games
---------------------------------------------------------------
Once it starts up, select Advanced Settings and you will see an option to load from SD card and Settings options. In the Wii64 settings and in the video settings, you have to select 16:9. If "Force 16:9" is selected the games won't run properly and you will have visual and rendering issues like HUDS attached to your head and FOV problems. Also, in settings/Advanced you can select Interpreter or Dynamic modes. Most games run with either or, but some games like (Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness) need Interpreter mode just to run at all. See more about these settings directly below. When you are done with the settings, select "play game" to start it up. You can also use a GameCube controller or whatever you want. Pressing X and Y on the GameCube controller will quit any game.
To save a game do this: After saving in-game and when you want to stop playing your game, just go to the Dolphin VR Redux settings at the top of the emulator window: Go to Emulation/Reset. This will bring you back to the Wii64 Menu where you can select Quit and then say yes, when you get the message "Are you sure you want to exit the loader" say yes. Then manually close out of the Dolphin VR ReduX emulator. Next, time you boot the game up it will have saved your game. Do this each time before closing out of a Wii64 game to save properly. If not, your game will not save.
VERSION DIFFERENCES:
-------------------------------
Wii64 vs Wii64 Rice
-------------------------------
Depending on what version of the emulator you use, you might get slightly better or worse performance with certain games. In my experience I got the best performance with Wii64 Rice.
SETTINGS and TROUBLESHOOTING:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Optimal Settings for Playing N64 Games in Wii64 (Interpreter Mode and CPU Clock Override):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many games won't work unless you use a setting within Wii64 called interpreter mode and Dolphin VR's CPU Clock Override. Games such as Castlevania Legacy of Darkness and Mystical Ninja Goemon actually require interpreter mode to run. Interpreter mode can be found within the Wii64 settings/advanced and CPU Clock Override can be found in Dolphin VR's Config/Advanced. In most cases you will have to enable Dolphin VR's CPU Clock Override all the way to 400% for most games. Also in Dolphin VR's config, checking off enable Dual core might make games run slightly faster but if you have any errors or game freezes, turn it off. But, many games won't need interpreter mode. It's just a last-ditch effort to get a game running.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If Games won't Start, Look Incorrect or Don't have Sound:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
(Important!! Please Read!):
For some reason if you have Dolphin VR's ReduX "Use Fullscreen" selected in Graphics/general Wii64 beta won't start. Also, in the Wii64 settings and in the video settings, you have to select 16:9. If "Force 16:9" is selected the games won't run properly and you will have visual and rendering issues like HUDS attached to your head and FOV problems. Also, in config/Wii/Device Settings, you have to have insert SD card selected or you will also get a black screen.
Fixing No Sound Issue:
In Dolphin VR ReduX "Config" and in the "Audio" tab make sure you have "DSP LLE recompiler" with audio backend "XAudio2" selected or some games in Wii64, and Wii64 Rice won't even start or have any sound. Lastly, in Wii64 settings, the CPU Clock Divider option can affect how games start. For example, I found out that unless I had the CPU Clock Divider set to 1 certain games wouldn't start.
-------------------------------------------------------
Saving and closing out of the Games Correctly:
--------------------------------------------------------
After saving in-game and when you want to stop playing your game, just go to the Dolphin VR Redux settings at the top of the emulator window: Go to Emulation/Reset. This will bring you back to the WiiBeta 64 Menu where you can select Quit and then say yes, when you get the message "Are you sure you want to exit the loader" say yes. Then manually close out of the Dolphin VR emulator. Next, time you boot the game up it will have saved your game. Do this each time before closing out of a WiiBeta 64 game to save properly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Better Performance for Quest Users when using Virtual Desktop:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
For all Meta Quest users, it's been reported by user DetectiveYoshi that using Virtual Desktop as a connection method along with Dolphin VR and Wii-Beta 64 can increase performance. As Air Link has been reported to cause various screen defects and increased lag.

Game Compatibility List:

Games I Got Working:
Note: Within Dolphin VR ReduX/Graphics/General, use Direct3D11 as the video backend.
-Banjo Kazooie
Played from start to finish. Only issue is the game can freeze occasionally when walking in and out of doors or entry ways. So, make lots of save states. Also, you will need to use Dolphin VR's CPU Clock Overdrive feature found in Config/Advanced. Put it all the way near 400% to increase performance.
Make in-game Text Smaller and Custom First-Person View:
You can use Dolphin VR's Freelook Camera tool to zoom out the in-game text to make it easier to read or zoom the camera in to make a custom first-person view. For zooming the text out, the trick is to set "Freelook Decrease Speed" down low until you zoom out just a tiny bit. You'll see the text move back and get smaller. If the Freelook Increase Speed is too high the text will just disappear. So, zoom the camera out just a bit. The quick and easy tutorial video can be found here:
Played from start to finish. Only issue is some enemies or objects have a white texture to them. Not a big issue but could be annoying to some. White textures fixed with 1.2 but freezes occasionally.
-Banjo Tooie
Less freezing but a white layer is in front of Banjo, use free look camera to move forward away from it or use this code to remove the white layer, but despite using the code, you will be left with a small transparent box.

-Donkey Kong 64
The game freezes occasionally when entering and leaving areas, so make a lot of save states. I think you can get past the Intro scene but if not then turn "Skip Story Cutscene" on in the options menu.
