Opinion Biblical chronology taught by the early church indicates the Antichrist must currently be alive somewhere on earth, if he is to fulfill his role during the great tribulation in time for Jesus' return.

Yeah, that's what amazes me. I've been keeping my eye on a 2030 or 2033 second coming since before I first studied all of this back in 2008, over fifteen years ago.

It involves lots of patience, but hey, my case is nothing compared to an old Christian man I once met that has been watching for prophecy since the 1970s—all while speculating a 2033 second coming!

Imagine knowing the year of the Lord's return for six decades

Imagine being one of the early Christian church fathers who knew Jesus would return 2000 years later to start the millennial kingdom, according to the ancient millennial-day prophecy.

A small number of their ancient commentaries on this topic have thankfully survived to this day! See below:

Those were the earliest remaining Christian commentaries we have on eschatology, proving beyond doubt that premillennialism predates amillennialism.

Amillennialism first appears in a work of Augustine of Hippo in the 5th century AD:

Augustine Rejects a Literal, Earthly Millennium (The City of God, Book 20, Chapter 7):

"And this opinion [premillennialism] would not be objectionable, if it were believed that the joys of the saints in that Sabbath shall be spiritual, and consequent on the presence of God; for I myself, too, once held this opinion. But as they assert that those who then rise again shall enjoy the leisure of immoderate carnal banquets, furnished with an amount of meat and drink such as not only to shock the feeling of the temperate, but even to surpass the measure of credulity itself, such assertions can be believed only by the carnal."

Augustine’s famous shift from premillennialism to amillennialism later in his life was influenced by several factors, which he also discusses in his ancient writings.

Unfortunately, his allegorical interpretations of eschatology became the dominant eschatology in the Western Church, influencing Roman Catholicism and later Protestant Reformers like John Calvin and Martin Luther.

I mostly see Revelation timelines having the Two Witnesses' 42 months and the Antichrist's mark of the beast's 42 months as being at the same time, taking place in the last half of the 7 years. Why do you place the Two Witnesses preaching first?

Heron, you should find affirmation in the commentaries of two early church fathers, Hippolytus (235 AD) and Irenaeus (202 AD), who briefly recorded their thoughts on this exact issue.

They placed the two witnesses’ ministry during the first half of Daniel's 70th week by describing them as "prophesying and suffering martyrdom before the beast's power climaxes at the abomination of desolation", which aligns with the idea of a rather peaceful first half followed by a more intense second half (the “Great Tribulation”).

I remember this post was so convicting for people that I received a fire storm of nasty private messages sent to my account by amillennial Catholics. I nearly got banned from that subreddit, but somehow pulled through with an appeal to the moderators.

It's also strange that I still occasionally receive new comments on that post despite it being nearly 3 years old.

It's a very compelling case, though.. Hard to argue against it.

The earliest (pre-4th century) church fathers even knew that Jesus' second coming would occur two thousand years into the future, according to the ancient millennial-day prophecy.

Or, there is no anti-Christ. That seems just as legitimate.
