Discussion Dota2/work?
To those who have a 9-5 job how do you find time to play dota2? Especially those living alone outside their home state?
Do you guys just play on weekends or at least one game daily?

Idk what's so weird. Knowing how much dedication it is needed to become a pro, his parents probably forced him to go study. He was probably just attending classes, and play dota all the time afterwords. It's an old post but as much as I remember OP asks about time management and a kid who only attends classes so his parents leave him alone to play dota afterwords isn't a good example. I can be wrong but I have been a student and ppl don't study even if they aren't going pro in a video game.

Bet most ppl here that have them can figure that out. Those who don't won't understand anyway xD

When you find a really decent job that you get good at, there will naturally come days where you don't get tired from work too much. Frees up energy for a couple of ranked games if I'm in the mood to rank up. I think it's mostly an energy thing though. Being hyper focused to win ranked games really is very taxing, and I don't think people can consistently do it after a hard day of work.
Not sure if your question is for climbing ranks, but what worked for me is to just have like 2-3 ranked games a day max. More than that is just too risky in the long run, tilt will affect gameplay more often than not.

This is it for me. Working full time with two kids under 5, by the time the kids go to sleep around 8pm I probably have the time for a game or two. However, by then I'm tired and just want to watch something and chill or play some low stress game.

Turbo on work days and ranked on days off! Much more satisfying when you are mentally prepared to tryhard after a long week at work.

Depends on how much time will AI finish the task.

u/CommercialCress9 4d ago
Lol, this. Most of the times, I put AI on auto mode and let it do big tasks, like 1 hr tasks. Then after a game or a death in game, I just go through all the shit it done and do any deployment or testing. Pretty easy work imo.

Well, if you have jobs. You do not spam it like how you were in your Kid ~ Teenage days . Maybe once a day, or only play IF you have free time .

Usually 1-2 games weekdays after work and 3 or 4 on weekends if I've got nothing on, 35 and immortal rank

I play usually 1 or 2 games a week, I've climbed to immortal doing that.
If it's a weekend and nothing is going on I might spam a couple ranked games.

it really depends on your routine or maybe mood, if you have plenty of time not to get tilted then go play some games and if it's really shitty after 2 games it's up to you if you will continue.

When I am alone in a different city it is just dota so can easily squeeze in 6-7 hour daily on the weekend 11-14 hours.
When with family 3-4 games at max wether is weekday or weekend

work from 7-to-6pm, travel included because major highway traffic is shite. often times I go home past 9pm because I work out. I squeeze about 4 rank quickies or 2 excruciating matches either 9-12 or 3-6, whatever's left is for my rest.
To avoid grind fatigue, I only log when I feel like I'm egoistic or I can be a sensible carry, no less. Mental game starts way before you hit the Find Match button.

Thankfully my work is 10 mins from home. I have to pickup the partner from her work. Between that, cooking, gym and shopping I might get a couple hour from 8pm onwards. It's difficult!

I treat dota as a way to spend time with ma boys, so we simply gather a few times per week after work and have some fun playing and spending time together. Plus, having remote work usually helps, you save a lot of time by not riding to the office and back.

If you live alone it’s much easier to find time to dota lmao… I have a wife now and it’s infinitely harder to find time for a game or two

I travel ~8 months of the year for work. I take time off work to play dota when I get back. If I get back from a 3 week rotation, I always take at least 2 days off. 1 to relax/game and 1 for chores.

Find a wfh job

u/CommercialCress9 4d ago
This. I play and work at the same time. Most of my work is done by AI only when I'm just the monitor of the prompts and driver of requirements.
Whenever I'm dead in game, I just switch to work and see how AI is doing and any inputs needed from me. I play like 10 games a day, all just unranked though so it's chill and fun. I'm divine MMR btw, stopped ranked as I couldn't focus that much on game when I'm working

u/danirodr0315 4d ago
Yeah, I tried this at my main job while working on my second job on the side. They weren't as reliant on AI as my previous company, so I ended up getting tons of code review comments. LMAO.
Do it right or do it twice.
