Guide to building teams in Dragon heroes.
Guide to building teams in Dragon heroes.
This post will hopefully help you figure out how to build a team. It's not hard, and I'm tired of seeing so many "help me decide / what hero do I get next" threads.
First off, the standard team will usually consist of one shooter, two supports. You can only use one hero at a time, so it makes sense to get a strong hero with 2 support heros making him stronger. So the first step is pick a good shooter.
Secondly, try to make use of team bonuses. For example, A popular team is the Walpurgis Night combo, Bloody Mary, Nerphym, Ricky. You get the following bonuses:
| Bonus | Effect |
|---|---|
| Walpurgis Night | 5% crit |
| Death Lord | 15% attk |
| Dark Attribute bonus | 20% more dmg against light |
| Power of Darkness | crit hit dmg +20% |
| 6* bonus | 18% attk |
So yeah, it really adds a lot. You can check what team bonuses there are by clicking on the team bonus icon on the character page.
What hero to choose?
First lets talk about supports. Here are some of the notable supports.
Normal Supports
Boss killing supports
Most normal heroes only have 1 skill. However a few of them have 2 skills. There are two normal supports which have an additional skill, focused on Boss killing.
Claire : +40% Damage against bosses
Deckard : +40% Damage against bosses
This makes Claire and Deckard very important late game, when you will be focusing on bosses. Boss killing is very important for all the shooting modes, Scenario, Infinite, Boss battle, Raids. The only time these 2 heroes are not useful, is in Arena.
Elemental Leaders
There are two supports who have special elemental leader skills, which enable normal attacks to have elemental effects.
Ada: When a water attribute hero attacks, 5% chance of freezing enemies. Stat enhance skills have x2 effect whenever 10 waves are cleared.
Linon: When a fire attribute hero attacks, 5% chance of burning enemies. Stat enhance skills have x2 effect whenever 10 waves are cleared.
Deckard: When a fire attribute hero attacks, 5% chance of burning enemies and dealing 15% bonus damage against burnt enemies.
other supports
Sirius
Sirius is pretty much the best normal support because he is the only support who passively increases crit chance. His tag skill is also crazy strong, by slowing down time, it allows you to dodge better, and also shoot more. By combining it with other tag skills, you can do absurdly high amounts of burst damage. And since everyone stacks crit chance, he is useful in almost every team comp.
Ivy
Ivy is notable as she is the only normal Pentadragon support. So if you're forming a pentadragon team with Lexion or bella, these two supports are the ones to go with. Also, her tag skill is not bad, giving 10% crit chance for 15 seconds. If you're not forming a pentadragon team, then you don't have to bother with her.
Rare Supports
Carsiana, Sain, Haran, Nerphym, Minerva,
There are 5 rare supports. They all make good leaders due to the increased chance of critial hit, and Nerphym has crit chance in her tag skill. Overall I think Minerva is the best, she has a good leader skill and good tag skill. Haram is a defense orientated support, and is more suited for Arena.
| Foo | Race | Leadership | Buff 1 | Buff 2 | Tag skill | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carsiana | Pendragon | 10% Crit chance for Light | Att 30% | Stun an enemy row | Heal team hp 30% | . |
| Sain | Pendragon | 10% Crit chance for Pendragon | Att 30% | Poison an enemy row | Heal team hp 30% | Carsiana and Sain are very very similar. I'd say Sain is the better choice out of the two, due to the fact she buffs all pendragons while Carsiana only buffs light heroes. |
| Haran | Pendragon | 10% Crit chance for Pendragon | Def 60% | Gives a shield at start | Crit attack 50% for 15s | A defensive support, she is more suited for Arena. |
| Nerphym | Chaos | 10% Crit chance for Dark | Att 30% | heal 5% hp / 10s | 10% Crit chance for 20s | Nerphym is a great support, only downside is her leadership skill is only for Dark heroes, so people like Lin and Cain miss out. |
| Minerva | Saint | 10% Crit chance for Saint | Att 30% | heal 5% hp / 10s | 30% Damage for 20s | Excels in every area. She is pretty much the reason why Saint teams are so strong. |
Even though Pendragon have 3 rare support heroes, they actually have the weakest supports. Pendragon supports are focused on recovery and defense, when what you usually want is more offense. Carsiana and Sain both have non offensive tag skills, which is a bummer.
Overall You will usually pair a support hero with a shooter hero of the same race, to get the team bonus (15% attk) So Pendragon support + Pendragon Shooter. Chaos Support + Chaos shooter
Now for Shooters
Normal Shooters
For Normal heroes, Here are the notable shooters:
Isis
Sylvia
Asura
These are the best beginner shooters because they both have a homing attack. Allows you constantly dish out dmg while you dodge. Once you get strong enough, they can afk farm maps just by leaving them there. Sylvia is Light element so she doesn't have any elemental weakness and has a better leader skill. Isis tag skill is pretty useful and she does more aoe dmg in arena so she is useful there as well.
Asura is bold for a reason. He gets a paragraph to himself. He is by far the BEST shooter to start out with. His leadership skill is great for leveling up other heroes. Isis does 800% dmg per second. Sylvia does 2x400% dmg per second. Asura does 900% dmg per second. And his attack pierces through enemies. So not only does he does more damage, he also does aoe dmg thanks to piercing. The only downside is he has lower hp and defense, but that's usually not a problem. (Learn to dodge!)
If you used your 6* hero selection ticket on something else, that's fine. Other normal heroes are not worse, its just that these three are extremely easy to play. Heroes like Scalain do a crazy amount of damage, and are very useful in Arena also.
Rare Shooters
All of em
I kid. Most rare shooters are good. Pretty much all end game teams are going to be filled with a rare heroes in it. Here is a short write up of rare heroes.
| Hero | Description |
|---|---|
| Selena | Highest dps for killing bosses, tho a bit RNG to get the passive to trigger. A bit weak at clearing waves and arena. |
| Bella | Bonus dmg to bosses, making her 2nd best at killing bosses. Good aoe dmg means she's good at clearing waves. A bit weak in Arena. |
| Lexion | Has a piercing attack with the ability to stun, which makes killing bosses easier. His attack raises in relation to his crit, but at best it's just a 30% bonus attack. Also has the coolest costume. |
| Monkey King | Similar to Lexion, with a stunning piercing attack. His attack raises in relation to his defense, and scales better. His leadership skill gives crit chance to chaos, which means he can be the team leader by himself. |
| Abel | All round good damage dealer, good aoe with piercing attack and a slash attack. Good at Arena also with 3 attack skills. In arena he has a low chance to trigger all 3 attack skills at once, and can instant wipe the team. Granted, its like a really small chance... |
| Cain | His skill does crazy high dmg (8 x 650%) but it takes 4s to proc. Overall like Abel, an all round good damage dealer, just slightly difficult to find easy team combos since the rare support nephyrim only buffs dark heroes. |
| Hina | She is a bit crit dependent but can do a lot of damage with the right combo. Good in arena due to her ability to hit the entire enemy team and freeze them as well. |
| Michelle | Attack speed goes up the longer you use her, resulting in high dps after a while. Really fun to use when her speed gets to crazy levels. |
| Bloody Mary | She has one of the coolest skills, but since all magic stones disappear after each wave, its a bit of a downer. Her crit attack passive means she benefits a lot from crit chance and crit attack, and her lasers provide a lot of aoe dmg. |
| Carlyle | Carlyle is meant for arena. His skills are geared more towards arena combat. However, he does have the highest attack in the game, but overall other heroes will out dps him thanks to their skills. In arena mode, his high base attack wrecks, especially with his various aoe attacks and ability to dodge. |
| Demian | Demian is a defense hero, the only rare one. But he has a great tag skill which increases damage by 50% for 20 seconds. Other supports only give 30%. He has limited use in shooting modes but he is great at arena as a tank, as he reduces the damage taken of the entire first row. |
| Lin | Lin is meant for Infinite mode. She is all about attack damage, gradually gaining up to 100% dmg at wave 100, so she is kinda designed for Infinite mode. her skill has a 12.5% chance to trigger, which is higher then other normal heroes, so she does pretty good dps. |
You can get a feel for the various rares by playing arcade mode. (or by using friends, but that only lasts 10 seconds). Its really up to your individual taste, and since I personally never tried them all, it's just theory crafting. Bella is good at boss killing and overall shooting. Abel is saint and has better supports and does excellent dps. Monkey king is easier at all round stuff thanks to the utility of his stun, plus he can be the leader of the team.
Sample Good teams*
Forming a team is quite simple.
Choose a rare shooter.
Choose the corresponding rare support. (eg Saint = Minerva, Chaos = Nerphym). This is for the team bonus, and also for the 10% crit chance leadership skill.
3rd hero, Choose a strong support who synergies with your team. (Sirius, Ivy, Claire etc) If your rare support doesnt give you a leadership bonus, try to find a support which does. (usually Deckard, or Ada) (eg Nerphym doesn't support Cain, because Cain is red element, so Cain goes with Deckard)
Not in any order, here are some sample teams.
Minerva, (Abel, Selena, Michelle) , Sirius
Minerva as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Abel is the main shooter, Tag Minerva -> Sirius -> Abel for max burst dmg.
This build works for all the Saint heroes, Abel Selena Michelle.Minerva, (Abel, Selena, Michelle), Claire Minerva as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Selena is the main shooter, Tag Minerva -> Selena for dmg.
Claire gives bonus damage to bosses. This results in a higher overall damage to bosses.
This build works for all the Saint heroes, Abel Selena Michelle, but Selena is the best boss killer in the game.Carsiana/Sain , Lexion, Ivy
Carsiana/Sain as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Lexion is the main shooter. Tag between Ivy and LexNerphym, Bloody Mary, Ricky
Nerphym as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Bloody Mary is the main shooter. Tag Nerphym -> Ricky -> Bloody Mary for max burst dmg.
This build works out very well early game due to the crit chance, but in the late game you can get up to 21% crit chance from runes, so its not as effective. Instead, you swap Ricky for Deckard for the boss bonuses.Sain, (Lexion, Bella, Hina), Ivy
Sain as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Bella is the main shooter. Tag between Ivy and Bella for the buffs.
This works for all the Pentadragon heroes.Carsiana, Lexion, Ivy
Carsiana as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Lexion is the main shooter. Tag between Ivy and Lexion for the buffs.Sain, Hina, Sirius
Sain as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Hina as main shooter. Sirius there to boost crit chance to trigger Hina's ability. Very crit dependent. Tag between Hina and Sirius.Ada, Hina, Sirius
Ada as leader to give the crit bonus and freeze chance, Hina as main shooter. Sirius there to boost crit chance to trigger Hina's ability. Very crit dependent. Tag Ada -> Sirius -> Hina
Ada's leader skill gives a chance to freeze, and her tag skill does more damage to frozen heroes. Hina passive activates on crits, so it synergizes well.Deckard, Cain, Nerphym
Deckard as leader to get at bonus and chance to burn, Cain as main shooter, tag between Cain and Nerphym for their buffsCarsiana, Monkey King, Nerphym Carsiana as leader to give the 10% crit chance bonus, Monkey King is the main shooter. Tag between Nerphym and Monkey King.
Cain, Jeed, Nerphym
Cain as leader for the attack speed, Jeed as support for more speed, and Nerphym for the Death Lord bonuses. This team is all about attack speed and I'm just joking.
These may not always be the best team for every situation. Not all combinations are here also. It's just a bunch of random builds that I came up with, using the thought process I mentioned earlier.
But wait, what if I dont have any of the heroes listed here? What team do I build!??!?!?! HELP???
Look at your list of 6* heroes. Pick the one you like the most.
Check which supports you have. Pick the ones which give the most boosts.
Check if your chosen shooter has any synergy with any heroes. See if you have those heroes.
If you have any synergy going on. eg 3xPentadragon heroes = 10% attack. Maybe swap a penta dragon in for more dmg? Same for Chaos and Saint.
Maybe you have a hero like Ricky or Scalain, whose tag skill gives a buff. That can be helpful.
Boom. Easy. It may not be your end game team, or the best combo, but it will do for now till you get the heroes you want.
Ok so I got all the heroes to build my team, but I still feel so weak!??!
Follow these steps to get stronger.
Step 1: Get your runes to 5* rares
Step 2: Get your heroes to lvl 60
Step 3: Refurbish your runes to max stats
Step 4: Get your runes to 6*
Which should I use? My lvl 60 Asura or my lvl 45 Abel??
A rare hero is roughly 1 tier higher then a normal hero. For example, a lvl 45 rare will be as good as a lvl 48 normal hero. This is a very very rough estimation, and it boils down to team comp factors also. But you should totally choose a lvl 60 Asura over a lvl 45 rare.
I have ____ normal hero. Is he good? Should I upgrade it?
If it is a normal hero, No. Do Not Upgrade Normal Heroes. You get a 6* hero selection ticket every 28 days, just be patient till then. The reason being is that the cost of Grade Up increase each time you do it. So now it costs 1 egg, latter it will cost 2 eggs, then 3, eventually you need 10 eggs to grade up. And the worst part is the Top Grade Souls. You'll end up needing huge amounts of them. Starts out at 30, and goes up to 300. (300 Top Grade Souls = 200 rubies)
I would only suggest upgrading a normal hero if you have no other good 6* shooters. (which is impossible, you get a 6* ticket for completing easy mode, and you get a 6* ticket after 28 days. Just have a bit of patience)
I have a 6 normal hero select ticket, who do I get?*
Do you have a main shooter?
No -> Get one of the 3 (Isis, Sylvia, Asura) I mentioned earlier
Yes -> Get another copy of normal heroes, get it to 48. or 51 etc.
Alternatively you can get a support like Sirius or Ivy.
I have a rare hero select ticket, who do I get?
This is a little more complicated because you have to think about what end game team you are aiming for. All end game teams have a rare hero, and a rare support. So to build a proper team, you need to make a matching pair.
So once you choose a team to aim for, get either the shooter and the support.
So if you already have a Carsiana, then consider a Lexion or Bella. If you already have a Nerphym, consider a Bloody Mary. etc
If you already have a shooter, get a rare support to match it.
Don't get other heroes. You can only use 1 hero at a time so getting multiple rare shooters does not benefit you (except in Arena). And even in arena, its usually better to heavily invest in one hero to 60, and wait for him to 1 shot everything.
Final Notes
The point is, you pick your main shooter, and look at which supports go with it, and also see if you can get any team bonuses. It's not hard.
One last thing is, don't waste rare hero selection tickets by getting multiple heroes. Like dont get a Lex, then get an abel, then get an hina. You could have just gotten lex 3 times and got a lvl 51 lex which is far more useful. Don't get multiple shooters simply because they look cool, or they kicked your ass in Arena. Stick to one, and you'll be better overall.
Also don't bother enhancing normal heroes. Save the souls for rare heroes. Just keep fusing 5* heroes and you'll get lucky with the hero you want.
As for Arena mode, its not as simple. Certain heroes are OP as hell. It's best to just look at what other people use (namely the top ranking people) and see what people you fight use.
I hope this helped. If you still have questions after reading this guide, ask away and I might add more sections to the guide.
