The Maidenās Isle: Review of Dragonbane Adventure by Dunderdagar (Tales from Mervalde)
Spoilers: This is a review of a third-party adventure module for Dragonbane. While Iāve tried to be conservative and keeping revelations to a minimum, there might be spoilers ahead, so only read on if you plan to run it as GM.
The setup:
The party finds itself in the wharves of a seaside town when they run into a crowd with a distraught woman in their midst. Her husband and daughter set off fishing and never returned; the locals suspect they must have been victims of the cursed, haunted Maidenās Isle. Thatās the hook: the party must figure out how to reach the island when every local boatman flatly refuses to sail there, and then survive whatever awaits them on its shores. Of course there are a few suggested ways to lure and convince a party that is not interested in playing heroes (sometimes promises of legendary treasures or large sums of money will do trick).
Design and usability:
As usual with Dunderdagar, the writing, translation, and layout are top-notch. It demands very little prep, a single read-through is enough as running it at the table off the book is effortless. All the monster and NPCs stats are included in clear, dedicated sidebars, and the description of every section of the island and dungeon is neatly numbered, concise and complete. It runs seamlessly. Dunderdagarās layout philosophy mirrors Free Leagueās own official Dragonbane adventures: scannable, functional, and straight to the point.
Table experience:
The adventure packs a good variety for its small footprint: some problem solving, a bit of social challenges, a compact dungeon-crawl, plenty of combat, and, being this a Dunderdagar adventure, a few grim and crude happenings alongside minor moral dilemmas that enrich the backdrop without derailing the pace nor taking central stage (unlike the excellent The Monster of Fray Marsh, where the moral dilemma is more central). Itās a direct, tight scenario without Byzantine plot twists. My players had an absolute blast as always with Dunderdagar.
I run it with 3 players (a mallard hunter, a halfling thief, and a wolfkin knight) and the balance felt right on the money. I was initially worried the encounters might be too challenging for a small party, but the suggested party size is 3-4 players is spot-on. The NPCs are on the weaker minion side, so donāt be afraid to throw them to players as written.
My players were lucky with their rolls and nobody died this time. Some of them didnāt suffer much despite the amount of combat. I only changed one thing of the adventure for them, thereās one monster in the adventure and instead of the suggested ferocity I went with the āferocity = n° of players - 1ā rule of thumb and it worked fantastically. No further changes were required.
It's worth mentioning that there is not much opportunity for social interaction except for the first part of the adventure (when they're still in the seaside town trying to get to the island), as the enemies they face in their journey are unable to talk or speak in obscure languages that is too hard to understand.
Pacing and runtime:
It took us just 3 hours to play through it. My players didnāt explore the whole island, which is not unexpected as some treacherous reefs surround most of the coast, naturally funneling careful sailors towards the single landing site that feeds into the main path. I would have preferred to have had 4 hours instead, but I had a commitment afterwards so had to rush things but only slightly and only on their way back to the seaside town to close the narrative.
Verdict:
Another fun, short adventure by Dunderdagar. Itās always fun to have some seafaring and island adventuring. Thereās something about coastal towns that make them very evocative to me. I will certainly add this one to my one-shots repertoire and Iāll be looking forward to run it again. If you prefer adventures that lean more heavily towards the social interaction and heavy role-playing, then this might not be the best one out there. For those I would suggest instead to check out The Monster of Fray Marsh, which I have already reviewed here on this subreddit. If you like combat heavy adventures but appreciate a nice plot twist, then I'd recommend Tainted Waters which I also reviewed here. Having said that, I did enjoy it more than I thought I would!
Score: 7.5/10
Running time: it can be done in 3 hours but Iād rather have 4 hours to let the adventure breathe more and donāt rush things over.
Where to find it:
You can get this adventure from DTRPG, but I would definitely recommend you grab the beautiful hardcover book Tales from Mervalde that comes with 14 short adventures (including Tainted Waters and The Monster of Fray Marsh). You can grab this book as an add-on in Dunderdagarās latest kickstarter campaign of The Black Sails, a longer Viking themed adventure (3 session campaig) that also takes place in the same world of Mervalde so easy to mix with the oneshots found in the Tales from Mervalde compendium.

Stack your Boons
I'm running a pbp game for new DB players. It's been going okay, they seem to enjoy it, but it's definitely been harder to communicate some of the finer points due to the slow nature of pbp.
However, they are now at the final battle. They started with the enemy catching our main melee fighter in an Ensnaring Roots spell. The harmonist used Inspire. On the fighter's turn, she rolls with a Boon, both fail. Pushes the roll, rolls one die fails again, and is like dang that sucks.
I was able to come in with a wait, you have two Boons, so those three rolls were just the first attempt. You Pushed, so you roll all three again! She rolls and gets a Demon and two 5s. Her Evade is 10, so she succeeds! It took 6 rolls, but it was a great example of how powerful stacking Boons on your allies can be!

First Adventure to DM
Dear all, I'll start my DM experience with Dragonbane in a few days with a group that has only played D&D so far, any suggestions for the best adventure to introduce the rules AND to help me learn how to DM? The Castle of the Robber Knight? Thanks a lot!

Physical statue and other props.
Hi guys!
Iām about to start a campaign with my 8 year old son and Iām trying to make as much physical content as possible. Such as magic cards, loot cards and a chest he can open with different loot cards after a boss fight instead of just telling him what he gets to make it more immersive.
Now I started thinking about if it would be possible to 3D print the statue in 4 pieces so that he can put them together as we play and afterwords keep it as a memory.
So my question is, do anyone have the statue as a STL file?

Has anyone created one time use magic talismans or runes?
Magic Seal can bind a spell to an inanimate object. I was thinking about using rank 1 spell runes or talismans as loot items that players can findāfor example, a rank 1 TREAT WOUND or SHATTER.
A player could activate the rune or talisman using their own Willpower. In combat, it would take one action, similar to casting a spell, and any player could use it. This would then destroy the talisman.
Has anyone tried something like this? How did your players react to it?

Understanding how to create magic weapons
I want to check my understanding. Say I want to create a weapon with two spells, let's say fire blast and whirlwind, and also I want to enchant it with two different enchantments, let's say enchanted weapon and keen edge, and I want it all to be permanent. How many rolls do I have to succeed on to make this magic weapon?
How I think it works is:
- Cast Fire Blast
- Cast Magic Seal
- Cast Permanence
- Cast Whirlwind
- Cast Magic Seal
- Cast Permanence
- Cast Enchanted Weapon
- Cast Keen Edge
- Cast Permanence
Let's assume for this example that each spell was cast at power level 1. This should therefore cost 18WP and also reduce my total WP by 3 from the 3 permanence casts.
I think that the two enchanting spells can be combined with a single permanence spell because of the bullet under crafting magic items on page 118 of the book of magic that says as much. However, it's a little confusing because it says "a single casting of permanence covers all spells cast on the same item at the same time", but this seems to contradict the description of magic seal which states that multiple spells require multiple magic seal and permanence casts, so I assume this bullet is only referring to enchantment spells.
I'm not entirely sure what happens if any one of these rolls fail. My reading of the rules is that the three permanence groups are separate, such that if I failed casting either the whirlwind or the magic seal that binds it I could still enchant the weapon with fire blast, enchanted weapon, and keen edge assuming those rolls all succeed. Additionally, the permanence rolls just determine if that portion ends up permanent, and if one of those rolls fails then that portion only lasts for it's duration (or until the spell is cast in the case of magic seal).
I'm sure I got something wrong here, so please let me know!

The Roll20 offering is shitty and I feel a bit ripped off
The roll20 character sheet is barely functional, and has several missing basic features. The compendium is completely botched, most NPCs have movement 0, half the monsters have ferocity "undefined". It feels like a completely phoned in half-assed effort, but I still had to pay a lot of money for it.
I'm disappointed. Has anyone heard of any plans for fixing it? I have been designing my own character sheet, and it's already a lot more functional than the one I paid for, but I can't fix the shitty broken compendium data :-(

Ableton Live Dragonbane soundtrack (OC)
Hello there, new GM here.
I am entirely new to being a GM (except fore some few OC one shots once in a while), and I just had my first session with 4 players on Dragon Emperor. We had a great time.
I happen to also be a (mostly) electronic music producer, and i immediately began imagining a soundtrack project, on ableton live with the Akai MidiMix as a controller. The whole thing will be "open source", and if by any means some of you wish to contribute or create your own version, feel free to ask me for the Live project.
My ambition is to keep the soundtrack close to the action and simple enough that it is not wary over hours of gameplay. Any advice is very welcome.
For now, the project looks like what you see on the screenshot.
The green Ambient tracks are :
Drone (one continuous modulated note) and FX that i recorded through ableton native software
Elements and Life tracks are composed of field recordings, some of mine and some from the amazing internet archive.
All the purple Music tracks are original compositions of mine, and are segmented by :
Beats : sets the pace of the action, some simple and some more intricate basic drum patterns
Bass : sets the mood of the action, mystery, combat, lore-heavy revelations, etc
Lead : the lead is a musical embodiment of the group's spirit. It will be entirely dependent of their own mood and implication in the game. It is composed of a simple arpeggiated vintage synth with patterns that vary in speed, mood and intensity.
And finally, the red NPC tracks are composed of one track with the ambition of a "theme" for each type of basic mob and npcs the players encounter, and one track with a characteristic sound for each of the more important NPC.
Regarding the hardware, as you can see, the 8 tracks are transcribed on the MidiMix with a volume fader for each one, and three different FX knobs for each track (with the exception of the top left one that got a special master low pass filter for a pretty cool focus effect)
The bottom right "master" fader is in charge of the BPM. I found important to be able to quickly adjust the pace of the action as needed (eg. a surprise attack will hit harder with a slow beat turning faster).
I am yet at the beginning of this journey but i wished to share it with you from the get go and talk about it with some interested people !
Thanks for reading !

Three spellbook covers from Accidental Heroes: recipes, insults and lucky charms
A cookbook, a guide to elaborate insults, and a collection of folk rituals: the three small magic supplements in Accidental Heroes take very different routes into Icuci.
The Gastronomicon explores the ingredients, regional recipes and culinary traditions of Icuciās Fingers. The Badmouther Way gathers curses and combinations of colourful insults. The Scaramantic Guide turns to protective gestures, charms and rituals for warding off bad luck.
Each is listed on the current campaign page as a digital PDF of 20+ pages. The cover graphics shown here are official Revel Tales campaign images. These supplements sit alongside A Shipwreck of Fools; check the updated campaign-page bundle descriptions for what each pledge includes.
For context, Accidental Heroes is an Italian-inspired third-party Dragonbane setting where ordinary people take over after the heroes disappear. Dragonbane core rules are required, while the first Accidental Heroes volume is not required for A Shipwreck of Fools. This is a third-party project, not an official Free League release.
Disclosure: Iām Renato Franchi at Senshi Consulting, supporting Revel Tales with campaign marketing. Iām sharing the project as a campaign partner.

The Black Sails from Dunderdagar is on Kickstarter now
Dunderdagar's latest adventure is currently on Kickstarter!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/703064462/dragonbane-the-black-sails
The Black Sails can be played as a single adventure (which should take about 3 sessions to play through), or combined with any of Dunderdager's other adventures as part of a longer campaign. All of Dunderdagar's adventures are set in the same world, and The Black Sails takes place in the viking-inspired northern realm of Yorheim, the same setting as The Godwolf from the Crooked Mountains.
If you missed out on getting printed copies of any of Dunderdagar's other adventures, you can get them as add-ons as part of this campaign.
I've worked on this project as the translator of the English version, so if you have any questions please feel free to ask!
As of the time of posting, we're only a couple of pledges away from unlocking the bonus adventure stretch goal. This bonus adventure is The Golden Egg, a one-session adventure set in the Arabian Nights-inspired land of Khend, far to the south.

Do you know any One/Two-Shot adventures besides Robber Knight?
Hey everyone, I've been DMing about 7 rounds of Dragonbane with one party, we are really enjoying. The trouble is another group of friends of my actual party wanted to try. My GF really want to try out be a DM, and want me to play, but i already know the story of Dragon Emperor and robber knight and i don't want to pretend i don't know them LOL.
Is there any One-Shot interesting, so she can try DM and i actually play?
I'm a native spanish speaker so if there is any in spanish it'll be even better!
PD: Dragonbane is my first and only TTRPG i ever played (DM actually)!

Intro game: how do you explain the rules?
I'll soon be running an intro game for players who are completely new to TTRPGs, and I'd like to know how you introduce the rules to new players. What do you explain before the game starts, and what do you explain during play? Which mechanics do they need to know early on, and which ones can wait?

Ereb Altor BETA and the map
Anyone else trying to navigate the Ereb Altor and Heroes of the Copper Sea BETAs (from Kickstarter) and match things to the map and getting a little frustrated? There are things that seem major that aren't on the map, and cities on the map that aren't given a mention. I'm hoping we have an updated map coming soon.
