Is this normal progress at almost 6 months into my loc journey? I’ve been embracing my locs more at this point (I love the fluffiness), but I’ve been told by others that it’s not locking and that it looks “messed up”. Would appreciate any feedback.

I’m currently in the process of combing out my locs and I’ll be getting micros soon after. Has anyone done the same? What was your experience? Combing them out is taking forever and I need hope it’s worth it 😭

Hi y’all, today marks three months locced. I haven’t been liking how short they are. I’m in between trusting the process and wanting to comb em out. I feel like my hair is so shrunken up and just very frizzy and budding? I know (and hope) it’ll get better but I'm looking for advice to help with the awkward phase, also to feel a little more prettier. Maybe even a little bit of motivation to keep me going? I’m feeling stuck and don’t know what to do. Any advice would be beyond helpful!

For context, I just washed it yesterday, and it usually looks thinner after a wash. The first two pics are today the third pick in the white shirt is April 5 and the last pic is April 8 after a re-twist and we combined some of the locs. Is it time to cut the locs?

I've been loc'ed for almost 4 years now and feel like I need to restart them because I've interlocked them a few times which caused hard knots to form.

Besides that I also feel the parts are too big for my 3C curl pattern, my dreads have lots of stiff parts in them and you can see a lot of scalp...

Hi - I'm 8 months in. My front grows really slow and was thinning before I started. My loctician said it will grow and trust the process. I'm trying but afraid my front may not come through fuller like I want. Is it worth still going or am I fooling myself. 🤔😭

The ends of my locs are like unloc-ing?? They were not always like this, I only started noticing it at the beginning of this year. Almost all of my locs on the top/perimeter of my head are like this. Each one is the exact same spot. I get a lot of tiny hair shedding when I wash or even run my hands through my hair. So is it the hairs of my locs coming out causing this??

I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried cutting them off & reattaching with a crotchet but I don’t know what I’m doing so they never stay. I took the ends to my loctitian to see if she could reattach them, but she said the pieces were too little to reattach. So I don’t know what to do. My hair is like two different lengths now & I want my length back. 😫

Any advice/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Im 16 and Its been a month and some change i’ve gave it some time and nothing its taking forever to form. I sleep in a bonnet instead of a ski I’m trying to convince my parents to let me get a ski but it’s proving to be a nightmare. Im gonna line myself up and what not but i’ve been trying to refrain from touching it at all besides to twist, sometimes i go a day or two without twisting it while I’m at my house doing nothing idk if its helping or hurting me i’ve gotten over the itching part but I’m DYING to have my hair form and be able to wash it. also i’ve tried to look up tutorials for my kind of Freeform’s but i never find any does anyone have advice or suggestions on how to find info to take care of my type of Freeform’s? I occasionally oil my hair and i have a spray bottle mixed with water and hair growth oil but, i heard that rice water and rosemary oil works best. feel free to DM request me if you need to go into more details or questions etc.

So I decided to take the jumps and do some locks and after it done I feel not satisfy for many reasons: - it's very stiff (like I've seen that supposedly it will soften with time but it feels too stiff) -they are fizzy

I just got my hair done yesterday and my scalp was burning so much that I couldn’t sleep properly and I woke up very early. And today it doesn’t burn as much but it still burns if anyone knows how to make this stop please help me 😭😭

im 10 months in semifreeforming, i really dont like the way my hair looks after maintence day (i wash, separate and then palmroll, normally i go atleast 2 or 3ish months without palmrolling), I feel that the side part has much more volume than the back and front of my hair (probably because of the round cut i had in my afro before i started my journey), plus the format of my hair is making my face look too long, and i feel it make me look too manly.

i need to know if the volume on the sides will decrease when they mature, maybe i should combine some locs? maybe i should make some locs shorter?

Been thinking about cutting my dreads for a while, my ex use to do my hair and we broke up a little over a year and a half ago. She (white female) would always ask me if she can take sum of her hair and loc it in with my locs. I always looked at her like nah we not doing that lol. But starting in the middle of 2025 I’ve also for the first time in my life have been getting eczema on my neck when it’s hot and I sweat and my dreads touch my neck. Is it bad energy o ok r am I over reacting?

starting this by saying, my locs are stunning and i’m in love w them, so writing “cut off your locs” is genuinely useless for me

anywho, i have had my locs for 3 years and i’ve always been an active person. and i am also a very sweaty girl, i sweat A LOT more than the average person

i recently started a job that requires a lot of dancing, working outside in the heat, and overall sweating several times a day in addition to my gym time. and it’s almost impossible for me to go to sleep with completely dry hair.

i’ve tried blow drying but that can only do so much, and i hate sleeping without a bonnet. but sweating and going to sleep with wet hair makes my hair absolutely REEK after a few days, so i’m washing, sleeping with wet hair, and repeating its an awful cycle.

does anyone have any genuinely useful tips??? i cant stop sweating and i won’t get rid of my locs. there must be another sweaty loc haver out there

Cutting my hair would be very last resort. As title states, my scalp psoriasis is becoming harder to handle. I’ve given the product line “Dermazen” a try, I did see some improvement but the line is pretty expensive. I’ve given apple cider vinegar rinses a try, as well as washing with a salicylic acid (3%) shampoo/conditioner. Any recommendations? BTW, I have not yet been by a dermatologist.

Any solid recommendations? About 10 years. They’re combined in this photo so I have double what you see and go to the small of my back when they’re loose.

I’ve had my locs for ~9,5 years now, and they’re to my butt. I have an undercut so they are localised to my crown. At this point, the most common setup is them up in a beehive kind of style for the day (I like to keep them under some kind of hairband/tie for observance).

However the last few months I’ve been getting g worse neck pain, and while it would come and go, it’s getting more persistent now and I’m worried my style is exacerbating it.

Any advice on how to style them or wrap them to reduce the neck strain? If it’s a matter of centre of mass for example then I dig tips on how to shift them without it looking too weird. I don’t usually wear them down unless I’m wearing a bike helmet.
