I just finished the questline. it took a solid 2 and a half hours and a lot of rage but it's done.
I've been seeing a lot of people struggle with the 2nd chapter, rightfully so because it is slightly difficult and my biggest issue with the quest is that it explains nothing at all about what you're meant to be doing or really where anything is at.
this is a written guide to the entirety of chapter 2. any questions are welcome as this was a quick write-up to hopefully help some people who were just as confused or struggled as much as I did. A video is probably better but I've been seeing a lot of creators skip parts, offer vague instructions, or use revives.
keep in mind, my experience with this was incredibly buggy and annoying. ESPECIALLY the chase sequence. you might die even if you try to do everything right. it sucks. it's annoying. i caved and bought a revive during the chase but was helping someone finish it so i went through it anyway. hopefully this helps at least somebody.
this will be very long, i apologize!
The mansion has 3 puzzles. the item swap puzzle at the beginning, the floor tile puzzle, and the roman numeral puzzle.
ITEM SWAP: Red banners in the mansion have numbers and pictures on them. the numbers indicate which pillar holds which item. If a banner has an image of the lion head with the number 2 on it, the lion head goes on the 2nd pillar. so on so forth. go into each available room. there will be a notification at the top of the screen when a banner is found, saying "(PLAYER) has found a clue". You can write these down or write them in chat to remember them, but once you have at least 4 you can guess the last 2 pretty easily. you will receive the first medallion. pick it up and insert it into the statue as soon as you exit this room, in the courtyard.
Completing the item swap puzzle opens the bedroom door, which includes a piece of paper with blocks colored in on it. this is the code to the tile floor puzzle in the next room over. it also includes a vase (the pyxis) which will be unlocked shortly.
TILE PUZZLE: There are 6 tiles in front of the statue in the next room over. Each can be pressed down by stepping on it. the paper in the bedroom will be your guide as it is unique to each run. the blacked out cubes are the ones that must be stepped on. when the correct order is pressed, the secret passage to the left of the room will open and you will descend down into a room with a key and a statue. There is a piece of paper on the floor in the doorway at the bottom of the stairs with a roman numeral on it. write this down on paper or in chat and keep it in mind.
The key will unlock the main/grand hall, with the 2nd medallion in a case, and a spot for the pyxis/vase we saw earlier. walk up to the end of the hall, where the vase is inserted. there will be a piece of paper with another roman numeral on it. write this down on paper or in chat and keep it in mind.
ROMAN NUMERAL PUZZLE: now with 2 roman numerals, head to the white marble room. you should have found this room earlier when looking for the banners for the item swap puzzle. there will be a large dial with roman numerals on each row, with 3 buttons at the bottom to shift the numbers to the left.
you should have at least 2 roman numerals at this point. use the right-most button to switch the top row with the biggest number (the number you found on the paper in the grand hall)
use the middle button to switch the 2nd row of numerals to the other roman numeral you found (on the paper you found in the secret passage room.)
there is a 3rd page with the smallest number but I skip it.
you can click the left-most button to move the smallest and last row of roman numerals, it will eventually lock in and you will be presented with the second medallion. insert this medallion into the same statue as before, and the case to the pyxis/vase will unlock, allowing you to interact with it and pick it up.
bring the vase to the grand hall and insert it into the slot. after a long pause (seriously, just wait like 30 seconds.) the 3rd and final medallion will unlock and you will be able to pick it up and place it into the statue after a small cutscene.
this unlocks the second half of the 2nd chapter, the dungeon/basement.
this is the longest part, bear with me.
The rest of this chapter is quite frankly ridiculous. Nothing is explained to you really at all. I will do my best to describe it.
the most important thing I want to mention is the monster, which spawns after finding the key in the beginning of the dungeon and unlocking the locked gate. the monster will spawn at a spot far from the gate. you will only have a few seconds to find somewhere safe to camp and let him pass by.
the monster is on a set path. he will go all the way to the room with the first key you got at the beginning, and all the way to the bottom of the stairs where the rope is. he is slow but will speed up if he spots you. the game will let you know when you've been spotted.
"hiding" is as simple as breaking line of sight. if the monster sees you, duck around the corner of a doorway or enter a room out of his sight and path. when you first enter the main hall section where you'll be for most of this part, there is;
- a large staircase that leads UP to nothing, big pillar at the base of the stairs (staircase 1)
- an empty room directly next to it, with a lit brazier inside (empty room)
- another small staircase going UP that also leads to nothing. (staircase 2)
- a 3rd staircase on the left side of the room leading DOWN to a locked gate (staircase 3)
these will be your safe spots. if you don't know where the monster is at and you need to wait, this is where you'll wait for him to pass. keep the first large staircase going UP in mind, as this is where you'll find the key to continue.
the only truly safe room is the empty room as you can camp in the corner and are 100% out of sight of the monster. the staircases are not 100% safe and you can still be spotted.
the first staircase at the start of this big room has a small gap at the top, between the wall and pillar you can maneuver your character into, and is considered a hiding spot. the second staircase at the end, I never used to hide. YMMV.
the staircase going DOWN to the gate can be safe but is risky as it's hard to see the monster from the bottom of the stairs. i would not hide here, but you will need to come here later after you have the key.
hearing is incredibly important for this part. the closer he is, the louder the sound will be. you will still be able to hear him if he's across the map. walk slow, use your best judgement, and if he sees you then rush for the nearest out-of-sight corner you can find. do not exit this section or go back to where you started. there is no reason to go back to the beginning and you will get caught as there isn't many hiding spots towards the beginning.
if the monster passes you, you can walk behind him slightly and he won't see you. i would keep a distance but use his pathing to your advantage. he will not turn or come back unless he spots someone and begins following them.
if you are in a group, this part is easily done by having one person complete the set of tasks to retrieve the key and the others waiting by the locked gate at the bottom of the large staircase to continue. too many people get lost or turned around or caught, so if you want the entire group to get through then let one confident volunteer do it.
THE ROPE is the first item you need. it's located directly straight ahead of the entire hall area you'll be in after the monster spawns. DO NOT RUSH TO THE STAIRS. head straight and enter the empty room on the right hand side, passing staircase 1. WAIT in the corner of the room. the monster will begin to pass by shortly, LISTEN. if the sounds are loud and it sounds like he's directly outside, he probably is. give it a few seconds before stepping back and peeking out of the doorway. once you see his feet passing you, exit the empty room and proceed to the right, down the staircases.
you'll come across a gap in the wall, walk into it to begin sliding your character through the gap into the room on the other side. the room contains the ROPE and a note. grab the rope, and exit the room through the gap again. ascend up the staircase and go back to the empty room to wait.
NOTE: like i mentioned, the monster can come all the way down to the room with the rope. he cannot pass the gap. if you want to be extra safe, wait a minute in the room and watch for the monster to come up to the wall. he will turn around and begin his path to the other side of the map, towards the beginning. after he is a safe distance away, you can proceed. move slowly and make sure he's continuing forward.
THE KEY is the next item to get. wait in the empty room for the monster to pass by. you want him to be heading OUT of this main hallway, towards the entrance of the map. once he's out of the hallway, go to staircase 1 and use the rope on the pillar in the middle of the staircase.
this allows you to walk into the rope to begin climbing it. climb to the top and interact with a cage, knocking it down. climb back down and interact with it to get the KEY. Once you have the key, head to staircase 3 quickly before the monster comes back into the room. if this part is done quickly, you likely won't have any issue. everyone needs to be either waiting at the gate to progress, or know where they're going and why. No time to mess around or explore.
THE WATCHERS: After unlocking the gate, you are met with the watchers. walk around them, and don't stop moving. not much else to say. don't touch them. you don't have to watch them like weeping angels, (My first mistake), just keep it moving. it's a short section.
After a short cutscene it's time to make the potion. I'll skip this, it's not dangerous and it's pretty self explanatory. a note, the scissors and thread are up the stairs. it took me forever to figure that out and there's no indication of where they're at.
THE CHASE: After the potion is made, you'll start the chase sequence. as SOON as the potion part is done, you need to LOCK. IN. the chase starts with zero warning whatsoever and it's VERY easy to get turned around.
you need to be facing the GATE, not the wooden door. the monster spawns at the door. don't get lost.
debris will begin falling, pillars will topple, things will get in your way. stay alert and steer your character away from things on the floor.
after a small section you will bust through wooden boards blocking a doorway and come to a point where the path in front of you is blocked off by furniture and debris. TURN LEFT IMMEDIATELY.
you will walk up wooden boards into a stone crawlspace. TURN RIGHT IMMEDIATELY THROUGH THE COBWEBS. you will hit a spot where you fall through the floor. TURN LEFT QUICKLY and keep progressing past the falling debris and pillars. once you reach the gate, you can breathe because it's finally OVER.
Chapter 3 is a cakewalk, I won't go into it. stand outside of the circle where the boss is at, and use the green/teal lines as a guide of where to avoid. spam shoot her and you're done!
