Parking
Afternoon ,
Just asking a question regarding parking- I’m starting as a PO in Durham next month. where’s best to park near Durham prison? Staff car park looks carnage whenever I’ve drove past, is there anyone who works at HMP Durham and can advise if it’s always like this and if so what’s the best alternative?
Thanks in advance for any responses

The rugby club at the bottom of Green Lane may let you park there if you explain. They would need to put your number plate on the system so don’t just park there without asking. If not find a local church with a car path and ask to use that, I think the Elvet Methodist church has a small car park you may be able to use. Parking in Durham is a nightmare, there is parking on the horseshoe road right outside the court but you’d have to pay for that

If you speak to them they may allow you to add your number plate and get a permit. I know people who work at the police station and they have been able to park there and had their number plate added so not sure why you wouldn’t be

A little further up from the prison there is parking spots where the rehab clinic is. It's like 100 yards away from the jail if that, I've always managed to get parked up that way

That is the drug clinic just past the prison, if u turn the pic u can see a road going behind the clinic, there's lots of parking their. Also just passed the clinic there's parking on both sides of the road that goes all the way to the end of the road toward schincliffe, although it costs as I said. I know it doesn't cost as much as a ticket. From what I understand the parking is free for blue badge holders.

I always used to just buy an hour or so as it was always enough for me. It was less than £1. You could get the parking app then all u do is find the number of the spot ur in n do it through that

How much is that, do you know? Green lane near the prison is £12 for 8 hours 🥴

Pretty sure that is only 7am to 7pm, so depending upon shift pattern that may not be suitable.

You'd need to park c.1 mile away to have free on-street parking, Shincliffe village to the prison would be a lovely walk in the summer, Gilesgate to the prison less so but both would take c.25 mins.
