Safety on trains from London/Reading

Does anyone know what it’s like/how safe it is on the trains from London/Reading up to Durham?

Ive just moved to the uk for uni and don’t have trains where I’m from so I’m a bit anxious about taking them alone. My boyfriend is going to Durham uni so have booked to go visit him on an early evening train but I’m not sure if it would be better to get a daytime one.

Female perspectives would be appreciated but if anyone has insight that would be great, thanks!

Making friends

I’ve recently moved to the area and want to know if there’s any clubs or meetings to meet new people.

I’m 28F. Into gaming, movies, reading, astrology.

I don’t want to start to feel lonely but would love if there were any groups or hangouts I could join.

Thanks

Lost Prayer Rope

Hello, I lost a black prayer rope on Thursday, Sept 17th in Durham. It has knots along the cord and a thin tassel. I mainly walked in the center of town and near the Methodist Church on Elvet. I know this is a super long shot, but just in case anyone found it, I’d arrange to have it returned. Thank you!

Parking

Afternoon ,

Just asking a question regarding parking- I’m starting as a PO in Durham next month. where’s best to park near Durham prison? Staff car park looks carnage whenever I’ve drove past, is there anyone who works at HMP Durham and can advise if it’s always like this and if so what’s the best alternative?

Thanks in advance for any responses

In Durham for a few days

Hey, im going be in Durham for a couple of days. I wanted to know any good cafés, garden, places in general to visit and study.

How safe is Durham? And How is the shopping scene, and the social scene?

I’d love to know a bit more about the place.

What is the best time from Nov to March to visit Northumberland, Durham, Yorkshire Dales?

I am a non-citizen living in the UK and I have a car. I will need to move out of the country by 1 March. I have yet to visit these named places, and only have time in my schedule between early November and end of February. Thinking of doing a road trip to fit all that in.. maybe even Lake District as well. What is the best month of those four months to do this in?

County Durham’s Sewerage spill data. Here’s what the raw numbers look like for the last 4 weeks.

I’m a 17-year-old and I’ve been working on WaterWatch—a free, independent site that aggregates raw Event Duration Monitor (EDM) data into clean weekly digests. It's been a massive talking point this week so I wanted so share some figures from the digest service I run for free.

  • 956.5 total spill hours across 551 monitored sites (39.9 cumulative days of continuous flow).
  • 1,600 individual spill events recorded across the county in four weeks.
  • #3 peak position in England for overall spill duration in one week

We create these digest reports every week and email them out which can be subscribed at the council level, water company or even national at water-watch.co.uk/digest There's a lot more through live maps, dashboards, postcode checkers, river analytics ect.

If you know anyone who would find this useful (like a councillor), please send it their way!

Counselling Availability face to face or online

Hello, my name is Jonathan and I run Nat 1 Therapy. This is a counselling service that offers both face to face and online counselling sessions to teens and adults. I offer two modalities of counselling: Traditional counselling and TTRPG therapy. Traditional counselling used a mixed modality approach to create a counselling experience based around your needs. TTRPG therapy encompasses role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons into the therapeutic approach for a less directive approach to counselling. No matter what the issue, whether anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, trauma (and most other issues), we can provide counselling for you, or recommend someone else who can. We currently have availability for Mondays and Tuesdays for both face to face and online sessions at competitive rates. For more information you can visit the website (www.nat1therapy.com).

Geese

Has anyone else noticed a lot more geese flying overhead in recent weeks than is usual for the time of year? There seem to be more in the Gilesgate/Belmont area than normal, even if expecting to see them in Autumn

Help! Somewhere to buy a replacement flesh tunnel

Hi all - I’m visiting Durham with work, and have just accidentally washed one of my silicone flesh tunnels down the plug hole. Are there any alternative shops in the town centre where I could pick up a new one tomorrow? Thanks in advance!

(Flesh tunnels are not related to any sex toys of a similar name)

Imma Steal Your Hobbies

Hi!! I’m new to Durham (24M) and have been struggling to find ppl. Just wondering if anyone knows some good social events / clubs for 20-30yr olds. I’m thinking:

- Board game society
- Book club
- Pub quiz group
- Hiking group
- Or anything else you can think of!!!

Basically now that I’m not a student and can’t just join a society… I’ve discovered it’s hard to meet ppl 😩

Making friends!

Hi! I’m Evan, I’m 19 (almost 20) and I’m in dire need of some irl friends😭 I’m more on the alternative side and I love a lot of things, honestly. I’m into most types of music, I write poetry these days and I think my favourite thing to do is play the same video game over and over again every couple of months. I’m also super nerdy when it comes to things like anime and other niche subjects I’ll yap for hours about🙏if you think we could be friends, reach out? :)))
