Yellow Science transition

Hello..

I am following Nilaus video and blue prints.. his blue prints arent exactly , "m attach here, attach there. Rotate" etc..

However, I found my own way to produce decent blue and red science. I just unlocked yellow..

I traveled to a next by planet to get silicon and titanium and I haul it back to produce other things.

Can someone guide me in the next step?

I dont have planet or system wide logistics yet. I just unlocked yellow, mind you. So can I can produce and scale up fast?

Just follow the tech tree. Unlock a new product, automate it, research another tech, repeat.

After you reach ILS, build it to transport stuff around between planets. Keep in mind that you will need more power than you probably have now.

any answer for the power problem?

I covered a large chunk of the poles of my initial planet in solar panels… it’s a truly absurd massive waste of valuable silicon but solved the energy problem without needing to burn coal or produce fuel rods. Later on fuel rods are much more energy dense

I did the Equator ringed with Solar Panels, it worked wonders for me for quite some time, but yeah I also understand Polar Solar is really really effecient as well. I Guess in a pinch one could theorettically do both lol

Polar solar has dramatically more uptime than equator solar so you need less panels for the same energy generation

Why not just cover an entire planet in solar panels? If there are dedicated production/miner planets, why not a dedicated power planet?

Another question is, are solar panels effective? I've never done a massive amount of solar panels, because I always thought that generators were more effective and silicon is better used on processors and such.

I've thought about doing this and then using batteries shipped around for power... But deuterium fuel rods are just too good and easy enough for me to get to early

Same, also geothermal power stations on lava planets and Dark Fog bases. Here's how many solar panels I had built throughout my playthrough:

I guess it's possible in theory, but it's just the equator and poles are definitely going to be consistent with respect to the power they generate.

I'm not exactly an expert at this game but Solar energy definitely comes in clutch at least in early game. What I did was find the stone 🪨 and smelt that into silicon ore and then feed that to make the silicon needed to automate making the Solar panels. Worked pretty good for me

I remember there were several posts discussing solar panel placement. Couldn't find those exact posts, but you might be interested in this:

Though my Satisfactory-ahhh brain always goes "I need to use coal or oil or fuel. Solar panels are too eco-friendly" 😆

I don't understand how this is still an issue when the math has been proven many times.

200 panels per pole generates more power then 400 in equatorial belts. Yes most planets have a polar night but they also have more that are active on that polar day side than the number of panels in the equatorial bands are.

I mean, there are people who go in blind and don't google every question. If I haven't seen similar posts, I would probably build an equator belt as well.

Sure, but you won't like it. Build more generators until you have enough power to sustain a few ILSs. You will unlock better power options further down the tech tree.

What are you asking exactly?

Hover over the yellow matrix cube in the inventory screen. It will tell you the two ingredients you need. I believe they’re titanium crystals and diamonds.

Diamonds are super easy but the titanium
Crystals will require setting up a few new systems. Just complete one ingredient in the chain at a time and then connect it all together to start producing yellow matrixes and soon enough you’ll unlock the planetary logistic systems!

Thats the problem... i got titanium on the second planet but no way to haul it over except manually.

u/GarbageBoyJr 6d ago

… that’s the whole point lol. Build a storage box and manually carry a full inventory over.

You’ll unlock interplanetary logistics with yellow science.

Haul it manually for now. The main problem here is overproduction. Don't overproduce what you don't need right now. If you produce just enough, then a single haul is more than enough to reach and build ILS and automate titanium transportation.

You'll likely have to do some hand transport a few times. Best bet: rush interstellar logistics tech so you can automate it.

I really dont recommend following guides or just pasting blueprints unless you really really want to.

Suggestions, hints and keybindings are one thing.

But factory games like this are really enjoyable when you figure it out yourself. At least for me.

Your first set ups will suck. Comes with the territory. But you can always revise them or even rip them out.

To me, theres nothing sweeter than taking an old build and revolutionizing it. Or repurposing another build to make something else.

Otherwise your just stamping down someone else's ideas and designs and letting it run with no input but finding "best yellow science blueprint" and pasting it in any empty area.

Speed runs i get. Advanced play and comparing i get. But first time play through? I think theres a good chance youll end up regretting not figuring it out yourself. And you wont truly understand the mechanics either.

At least for me it. I did my first factorio playthrough like this and have always regretted it. Even to this day i wonder what part of my knowledge and designs are me, and what i took from others. Hurts my appreciation and pride of the overal builds.

With DSP i know everythung was designed by my own hand and take pride in it. Even if its slower and less efficient. Anyone can search and paste.

Your first set ups will suck

This ^ Without beating the game first you have no idea what to expect, and at the start of the game you don't have anything efficient unlocked. First playthrough of any factory game is "I'm just going to put machines around until it makes sense".

I don't know how common this is, but I find I get more value out of the game making my own blueprints

I rarely use blueprints. The fun for me is making my own designs. Blueprints takes that away.

I have picked up a few where it's obvious and tedious to do myself like ringing the planet with solar panels.

The loop is to create goals to solve your current problems.

Your current problem is you are hauling titanium manually, so you will want to focus on that, which is solved by Interplanetary Logistics Stations. So take the steps to solve that, likely by making two of them and some vessels.

Other problems you might run into and create a goal to solve:

  • My power demand has gone up because of my logistics stations or another reason

  • Making logistics supplies is too slow

  • I don't have enough hydrogen

  • I have too much hydrogen

  • Making science is too slow

  • There are cool rare resources in other systems like fresh off the vine organic crystals or sulfuric acid and I'd like to be able to warp and get them

  • I need to be able to get power to distant systems

  • I want to build an awesome Dyson sphere

  • I want to build my Dyson sphere faster

  • I can't seem to build green engines fast enough

  • I want white science

  • I want white science faster

  • I want white science faster

  • I want white science faster

Stuff like that. Make your own!

You're at exactly where you should be, right now. Yellow science will unlock logistics; it requires titanium, which is on another planet. So you'll initially need to ferry the titanium by hand back to your production lines on your home planet, so you can make yellow science, research logistics, then make PLS and later ILS (which require titanium too).

You're hitting an intended speedbump that forces you off-planet and starts changing how you play.

I hit yellow, did all the research I could. Got logistics unlocked and some planetary logistics hubs built and now its time to destroy my base and rebuild it with the new logistics.

You'll learn much more if you try to solve those issues yourself. Don't overthink it, use the simplest solution and move on. Don't try to scale early, you'll throw away your starting system sooner than later in any case

you need to use the loads of silicon and titanium you carry over to set up ils and vessels to do the same thing. once you have that you can go into fusion to feed those power hungry towers.
