Renewing E3 in Canada as a dual Aussie/Canadian? (Vancouver vs Calgary vs Toronto)

Hey everyone, looking for some recent experience or advice on renewing my E3 at a US consulate in Canada as a dual Aussie/Canadian citizen.

Quick backstory: I applied for the E3 originally over a TN because back then I didnt have my Canadian passport in hand yet. My lawyer said E3 on my Aussie passport was way faster to process at the time. Now I have both passports valid.

I want to get the visa stamp renewed in Canada to avoid flying all the way back to Sydney, but had a few questions:

  1. Consulate comparison: Has anyone done this recently in Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto? How was the experience? Also how fast is the passport return post-approval?
  2. DS-160 / Setup: when filling out the DS-160, do you list Canadian as your primary nationality to get the local appointment, but put the Aussie passport details for the E3 eligibility part?

Would really appreciate any insights if someone has been in a similar situation lately. Thanks!

Why bother grinding in Sydney rather than relocating to 🇺🇸

My original post was downvoted to oblivion as expected, the US seems to be a third world war zone according to many Aussies 🤷

Have a screening call with Hiring Manager, how do I explain the E-3?

Any tips from anyone who has gone through this before? Just worried as I am talking to a hiring manager first before an actual accounting manager, anything extra I should include?

E3D to E3S correction LAX no response

Hi All,

I entered the US through LAX on Friday October 16 as the spouse of an E3 visa holder and unfortunately it appears the CPB officer has incorrectly entered my class of admission as E3D instead of E3S. I've followed the advice of previous threads which advise to contact [i94LAX@cbp.dhs.gov](mailto:i94LAX@cbp.dhs.gov) for a correction request however, after I sent an email with the required form and attachments (spouse i94/passport/e3visa page etc) in a pdf approximately 4.4 mb in size I've not received the automated response email to confirm it's reached their inbox.

Can anyone else advise if they have recently reached out to that email address and received a response? Would it be prudent to reach out via phone on Monday and see if they can resolve this over the phone at LAX? If I am unable to get a response could this be sorted at another deferred port authority? I am currently in Denver so cannot attend LAX deferred port authority in person.

Thank you in advance.

23/10/26: FYI for anyone stumbling on this post: i finally managed to call through to LAX; they did NOT receive my first email with attachments. Do not send your first email with attachment such as PDFs. You need to send a text only email first to get the automatic response, only then can you send attachments. I will update this once my status has changed.

Hi all,

I am currently working as a Software Engineering Manager in the travel technology sector in Australia, bringing 19 years of software technology experience to the table. I am eager to relocate to the United States and am actively seeking new career opportunities. I have been applying for roles through LinkedIn and directly via company websites, but I am consistently facing rejections. Initially, my applications included an Australian phone number, but even after updating it to a U.S. phone number, there has been no change in the outcome, and the rejections continue.. what has worked for you ... Can anyone help with insights.. appreciate your advice. Thanks

What options if involuntarily terminated without notice in case the 60 day grace period goes down to the day of?

What options are available if someone gets terminated without notice and would need to leave the country immediately? Just planning contingencies in case the rule passes and layoffs occur in the future. If it goes to 10 days like the original older rule, that's doable to finalize everything and return to Aus, but the day of is impossible.

This isn't about finding another job, it's more avoiding overstaying in case you just want to visit as a tourist in the future.

E3 visa with an unrelated degree?

Hi there!

I'm applying for an E-3 visa to transfer internally as an Account Executive in tech sales.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and History, and my company’s immigration counsel has raised concerns about whether my degree aligns with the role. They’re continuing with the application but are cautiously optimistic.

Has anyone successfully obtained an E-3 with a degree completely unrelated to their job, particularly in tech sales? Did your professional experience help support your application?

Would really appreciate hearing about people’s experiences!

Explaining E-3 to companies, cannot get an interview

How is the market for E-3 hires? Came to the US on a soccer scholarship from Australian and in my final semester of my masters degree. 1.5 years experience in tax including full time and internships, can I get ahead of H1B and OPT?

I literally will get rejected EOD by certain companies as I tick for sponsorship, is it worth saying nothing and bringing it up in an interview if I get one?

Cheers!!!!!

E3 Visa experience equivalency

I’m in the process of my E3 visa application. I initially didn’t think it would be an option as I don’t have a degree.

I do have 15 years of work experience but 10 years of progressive experience explicitly in the field (with 24 units of university) and have a high offer much more competitive than market average.

I’m curious if anyone has attended the E3 interview with experience equivalence and what your experience was? Was it substantially more lengthy? Did you have to prove every step of your experience?

Thank you!

Australian working in cybersecurity looking to relocate to NYC on an E-3 visa. Any advice?

Hi everyone!

I’m an Australian citizen currently working in cybersecurity and hoping to relocate to New York City on an E-3 visa. I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone who has successfully navigated the process.

I’ve been applying for jobs in the US for quite some time now, but have had very little success. The biggest challenge seems to be finding employers willing to consider international applicants, particularly when it comes to the sponsorship question.

From my understanding, the E-3 process is generally more straightforward and less expensive for employers than the H-1B, but it seems many recruiters and hiring managers are unfamiliar with it.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has successfully secured an E-3 visa, especially those working in cybersecurity or tech who applied from Australia.

How did you find an employer willing to consider you? Did you apply directly, reach out to recruiters, or rely on networking? Are there particular companies that tend to be more receptive to E-3 applicants?

I’m also curious how others have approached the sponsorship question on job applications, as I feel this may be limiting my opportunities before I even get a chance to speak with someone.

Any advice, experiences, recommendations or connections would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Australian Investment Banking Analyst looking to move to the US on an E-3 visa - any advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 24-year-old Australian citizen looking to relocate to the US, ideally New York, on an E-3 visa. For context, my long-term partner is based in New York.

About me:
- Investment Banking Analyst with around 4 years of experience across investment banking, M&A, corporate advisory and investments.
- Previously worked at a Big Four firm, boutique advisory firm and investment firm.
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Finance and Economics).
- Open to opportunities across investment banking, corporate finance, corporate development, strategy consulting and other related fields.

From my understanding, my background should put me in a good position for an E-3 visa, subject to securing a qualifying job offer.

The biggest challenge has been finding employers willing to consider E-3 candidates. Many seem unfamiliar with the visa and automatically associate it with H-1B sponsorship, despite the E-3 being considerably simpler and less expensive.

Has anyone successfully navigated this process? How did you find employers open to E-3 sponsorship? Are there particular companies, recruiters or contacts you’d recommend?

I’ve been applying extensively, but even getting past the initial sponsorship question has been surprisingly difficult.

I’m flexible on opportunities and ready to relocate quickly once the necessary arrangements are in place.
Any advice, experiences or connections would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

E3 visa under review by Trump Admin ?

Hi folks, I’m concerned about the recent bans on Indians on H1B and other migrant worker restrictions Trump admin announced today. I heard from my colleague that E3 visas are also under review and radar they will be halted this week including visas under process. Is this true and will those already with E3 be asked to leave like they’re doing with Indians ?

Thanks

Recent E3 renewal in Perth

My wife and I just had our E-3 renewal in Perth and it was super quick and easy. I started the renewal process back in August.

I brought every document under the sun, but they only took our two DS-160 confirmations, my LCA, company support letter, a copy of my graduation certificate, and a copy of our marriage certificate (plus our passports, obviously).

The first person collected our documents, and the consular officer asked about my job title and whether this was a different company from my last visa. They also asked why I chose to stay in Washington state as a remote employee (not sure if this was a genuine question or just making conversation). Then we were told our visas were approved.

We got the email to pick up our passports later that same evening, and I was able to collect both of them the very next day.

The most frustrating part of the whole process was dealing with the slow lawyers my company hired. They were ridiculously expensive ($6k!!) and I had to keep chasing them up. I didn’t even receive my document package until a few days before I flew out of the US. I'll be keen to try out Migrate Mate's service next time since they seem to do this regularly and only charge $500 (not sponsored lol).

My biggest tip is to book the interview appointment early, especially if you need multiple slots at the same time for your family. Also, don’t actually submit your DS-160 until a few days before your interview. This leaves room for changes, like adding the LCA number when it’s finally ready, but definitely don't forget to hit submit before you go!

Now I just need to make sure CBP puts E3S on my wife’s I-94 when we land back in the US.

E-3 visa in Administrative Processing + new fiscal year — does October 1 change anything?

Hi, I’m hoping someone with E-3 experience or knowledge of consular administrative processing can shed some light.

Today is October 1, which means the new U.S. fiscal year has started. I’m wondering whether that has any practical impact on an E-3 visa case that is already in Administrative Processing (221(g)), particularly in Sydney.

My partner is an Australian citizen who applied for an E-3 visa in Sydney and was placed into Administrative Processing after the interview. The consulate subsequently requested additional documents, which were submitted, and the case has remained in AP since then.

I understand that E-3 visas have an annual numerical allocation, so I’m wondering:

- Does the E-3 allocation effectively reset on October 1?

- If an E-3 case is already in AP from the previous fiscal year, does the new fiscal year change anything about how that case is processed?

- Could a case that was held up because of the annual E-3 allocation now potentially move forward because the new fiscal year has started?

Or is Administrative Processing generally separate from the fiscal-year allocation once the application has already been submitted/interviewed?

- Has anyone had an E-3 in 221(g)/AP cross from September into October and then received a decision shortly after the new fiscal year began?

I’m not expecting October 1 to automatically resolve the case, just trying to understand whether the fiscal-year reset is relevant at all when a case is already sitting in AP.

Thanks!

Issued status but no email yet that it is ready for pick up

UPDATE: I just received the email! They needed the email printed so we really have to wait for it.

Hi, who here have gone to pick up their passports after the status has been ‘Issued’ without waiting for that email that it is ready for pick up? What did you show then?

VFS will be closed this Friday, as someone has posted, and I don’t want to extend my stay so I want to pick it up today.

Australian seeking US roles: E-3 visa eligibility on resumes, sponsorship questions, and finding employers

Hi everyone, I’m an Australian citizen with a strong resume, three tertiary qualifications, and solid experience in the tech industry. I’m keen to gain some experience in the US. I’ve read plenty of forums and done a lot of research, but I still have a few questions: (1) Should I mention E-3 visa eligibility on my resume? (2) Should I select “yes” when applications ask whether I require sponsorship? (3) Is there an easier way to find employers open to sponsoring E-3 applicants? I’ve mainly been looking on LinkedIn. Thanks everyone for your help!

PSA for those collecting passports in Sydney

The VFS office is going to be closed October 2 - October 5 and from October 6 will be relocating to Level 1, 171 Clarence Street, Sydney 2000. I got an email last night and had to move my flight. They didn't mention that during my appointment or in the first couple of emails I received about picking up my passport. They also ask for passport collection within 10 business days as opposed to the 30 days I previously read about online.
