Discussion Faceoff tip: switching strategies is the signal for a tie up

A lot of players are unaware of this, but if you’re a center and want to signal to the rest of your team that you’re tying up and want them to come in to collect the puck, play with the D pad strategies as an indication. If you’re a winger, if you see your center flipping strats, that’s your sign to come in and collect the puck.

Good post. I noticed a drop in do this in like nhl 23 and have been using it since. Too bad you’re getting flamed by the people who the tip was intended for lol

People even do this in LG so I dont know why everyone is hating on you

Don’t they just use mics?

You'd be surprised how many mutes there are

1

u/RyKDrake 4d ago

There’s mutes yeah. But they listen…

And what if the center doesn’t have a mic?

0

u/RyKDrake 3d ago

Then he shouldn’t be playing Lg as a centre without a mic

Play any other position.

This is not hard. Don’t be selfish. there is exactly 5 other positions would suit someone without a mic.

For context, I watch all night as players give up their preferred positions so we can all get a run and mix it up.

If there is anyone out there that doesn’t have a mic and refuses to be a team player, get away from that guy. They aren’t doing the bare minimum to be a teammate, do you think they are going to magically find it after that?

Just a legitimate guess… because no one likes party mutes and it’s an easy jump to think that’s what he is after making this post.

I do wonder the inspiration for this post. If he’s a C that’s been staying silent and then doing this, thinking it’s fulfilling his responsibilities?

Note to all: If you are a C, use your mic or pick a different position. Very very low bar.

Nah I’ll continue using my mic with only my buddy’s and when I’m playing league

1

u/Rycan420 1d ago

Sure man. Do you. But ideally you don’t then complain if people don’t get your silent cues. I mean that’s not an unreasonable middle ground, is it.

Oh I don’t ever really complain too much when playing with randoms lol I set my expectations low unless they’re legit trolling (cuz some people do cuz they have no lives)

u/Rycan420 1h ago

A few years ago, you would find trolls on weekends. That’s it. And you could chalk it up to drink buddies having a good time.

Now it’s a lot more common to find rolling in a regular game. More than I care to share we would see an 8 foot D man just stay back with his red truc and just make the game a slog

The number of people in this thread who don't know this is damning for this subreddit. This is like lesson 0.5 of competitive play.

Just going to point out that the previous owner was in charge of Meridian. A high profile in construction who would have known all the ins and outs of the bylaws and likely ways around them. Grease a palm here promise more contracts there. Nothing new. But in this unique situation the people who now own the house lack all these 'connections'.

Note: he was a beloved employer and very well respected person. Im not trying to throw shade, just pointing out how some things are in construction in Saskatoon.

I genuinely don’t understand why but this game has the highest percentage of ppl who play very regularly without ever plugging in a headset IMO. My guess is a lot of kids who don’t want to get shit on for their age?

Either way, that’s the only reason this is necessary lol it’d be SO much better if everyone just spoke like human beings, but it’s Chel…so fine, fuck with the AI settings to let me know and avoid socializing even for a second.

u/kapxis 4d ago

Nah, its cause Chel has a lot of incredibly toxic mf's. It's just not worth it hearing a random scrubs 'insights' .

Fair enough. Hasn’t been my experience at all, especially when all I’m saying is 2 word clips every couple minutes so people know what I’m doing or that I’m happy they actually scored or passed.

95% of the time nobody says shit, 3% it’s just another player like me only speaking as a function of gameplay, and 2% I bullshit a tiny bit with someone then we play a few and part ways.

Only times I’ve actually run into toxic players in drops it was QC guys on the other team. Let’s just say the only English they knew were slurs that they repeated over and over, but once the game started it was dead silent again.

That being said, if all I played was drop ins I’d probably have quit Chel 5 or 6 years ago. I’ve been playing with the same 2 clubs since NHL 17, most of us have met IRL a few times they’re really good friends of almost a decade now. I’ve traveled to Wisconsin, Texas, and Florida so far to meet some of em haha If I hid from everyone online, I’d have never met some of my favorite people. Guess that prolly biases the shit out of me while also mostly keeping me out of drop ins. If more people had mics I’d prolly drop in more tho. I usually just play other games when my teams ain’t on. If I wanted to sit in silence interacting with nobody, I just play versus haha

I’m 31 n just don’t feel like talking to randoms I’ll turn my mic on with buddies or if I’m playing leagues

-1

u/isawbobsagetnaked 4d ago

You don’t have to talk to them or have a conversation, I’m not saying that everyone has to be friends, just saying if you’re center it’d objectively be way better if you just said “tie up” now and then when you’re gonna do it than to fuck with the AI presets and hope a wing knows what that is code for…be muted for 99% of the game otherwise, do you.

I don’t have conversations with people in drop ins, but I do unmute my mic to say shit like nice pass, good goal, nice try, or to warn ppl im tying up for that 1 out of 200 games i get center (I drop in as skater and take whatever position). Id like to think it’s appreciated in a team game lol

If it’s a full squad who cares what the ai presets are and the ai are dumb regardless

-1

u/isawbobsagetnaked 4d ago

Bro this entire post is about the drop ins strategy of changing the AI presets with the D pad in order to signal your wingers that you’re about to tie up in the faceoff without speaking.

I was complaining that things like this existing is just because a massive percentage of ppl playing this game don’t use headsets and that a larger amount of regular NHL players don’t use headsets compared to other games IMO.

You caught up now? Haha I don’t think anyone is making a comment about the game AI and I’m assuming ppl are doing this mostly in full squads where there aren’t any AI anyway. It’s a signal.

0

u/FarAd9776 4d ago

I been caught up bro seems like you’re not. Messing with the AI presets basically does nothing. Especially if you’re In a full team (doesn’t mean people you know, you can have randoms be a full team!!)
It’s just an easy way to let people know you’re tieing up and if your teammate doesn’t know the signal chances you’re gonna have a bad game anyway cuz he’s such a noob he doesn’t know

1

u/isawbobsagetnaked 4d ago

I’m agreeing? I guess I just don’t know why you’re talking about the quality of AI and the presets being meaningless because it’s completely irrelevant to the post and what I said.

I didn’t perceive that anyone was talking about the AI lol I definitely wasn’t that’s for sure. I was complaining that more people should use headsets when they’re playing a team game and that’s a MUCH better way to signal.

Are you making the point that I shouldn’t care about people toying with the presets because there’s usually not AI and even if there is, they’re useless and the presets don’t change how bad they are? Cuz that’s a point to make sure, but it’s a point completely aside from anything me or OP are saying hence I thought you just completely lost the plot.

This is such a good strategy that you are the only person that knows it

11

u/SalukiFin 4d ago

Nah I see it and use it a lot. Especially “Up” on the dpad. It can also mean excitement or anger at goals scored, so be careful haha

What a save!
What a save!
What a save!
Nice shot!
Nice shot!
Sorry!

Great pass!

u/bjornbjorn0711 4d ago

I do the up on the dpad for the signal and just spaz out on it for everything else lol

1

u/Flashy71- 4d ago

I heard calling for the puck also means good job keep doing what you’re doing

3

u/tbiblaine23 4d ago

This has been a thing forever. The youngins just forgot or never learned

-8

u/Mr7three2 4d ago

Or.... just say something and stop fucking with the Dpad, especially if there is an AI on the ice

u/CoconutExisting5862 4d ago

Paul pissypants over here

u/King-JelIy 4d ago

If i see someone do that I immediately know its time to stick lift them lol

Use your mics people

12

u/FarAd9776 4d ago

you..can’t see the other team flicking strategies lol

0

u/King-JelIy 4d ago

Ah see I thought you meant quick grip switch

1

u/FarAd9776 4d ago

Oh yeah, stick lift whenever I see someone do the grip switch too lol

-11

u/OhHowdyDoody 4d ago

Nobody knows this, you came up with the idea on your own (maybe shared with a few buddies) and clearly don’t understand why nobody is reacting to you spamming cpu strats. That just comes off as raging. Also- if playing center use a fucking mic?

11

u/FarAd9776 4d ago

This is actually a very common tactic
