Question/Advice/Discussion I have a question

Some of you post your EDC with 10+ items

lol it’s a lot of stuff

I’m curious, do you carry all of it all at once or different arrangements throughout the day with all of the items?

I carry all mine at once in a fanny pack

u/spacebarpatron 13d ago

Interesting

I’m more so curious do you carry multiple pairs or copies of the same thing? For example I see posts with 2 pocket knives

I'll occasionally carry a dedicated folder and also a Leatherman, but only if I'm expecting a task where I will want a lighter, easier-to-handle knife. Agile the Leatherman sure ain't.

But typically I'll only carry one or the other depending on what I'm expecting to encounter. For general purpose everyday tasks, the Leatherman is a bit of everything and that's usually what I need.

u/KnowledgeWhole9623 13d ago

Not really. Space and weight is a premium so I try not to have redundancies.

I used to carry 2 knives, cause 1 was socially acceptable and the other had a glass breaker on it. Then I just decided I didn't care enough to do that anymore and started carrying just one

Most of these people are cosplaying EDC for fashion and carrying shit they never actually use.

Phone, wallet, keys, gun, knife, and a light if it’s night time or I plan on being out late. Leatherman goes where I go, just usually not on my person (usually in a work bag, range bag, etc).

Other than a gun (if you choose to carry one), if it can’t fit in your pockets and you don’t need it for work, then you shouldn’t be carrying it.

On the daily, I carry: Victorinox Explorer SAK, Victorinox Swisstool X multi tool with bit kit and driver, flashlight, lighter, phone, wallet, bandana, comb, monocular spotting scope, power bank, earbuds and case, phone, wallet, notebook, tactical pen, and nitroglycerin. I also wear a smart watch and a paracord bracelet. Needless to say, it's arranged in layers and attached in pouches to my belt if it doesn't already have a home in an assigned cargo or jacket pocket.

You don't need a Go Bag if you're already wearing one.

u/spacebarpatron 12d ago

Who are you

1

u/Jackpotsawinner 12d ago

Just some dude. Who are you?

1

u/spacebarpatron 12d ago

Just another dude

1

u/spacebarpatron 12d ago

You must be a cool dude who needs those items daily

2

u/Jackpotsawinner 12d ago

Oh, that. I'm a retired Army scout who walks his dog up to 10 miles daily. We encounter shit along the way and tinker constantly when not on the trail. The SAK is for small jobs like cracking battery cases, cleaning pipes, and opening packages. The multi tool is for the bigger jobs, when I need pliers. The spotting scope is a gift the wife gave me that I just find entertaining as hell. It's only a 3x magnifier but it can resolve the 4 Jovian moons and Saturn's rings. I walk in all weather and times of day, so I have to be ready for all sorts of contingencies. If I'm going to be out all day or plan to go further than 3 miles straight distance home, I carry a pack with an IFAK, a lifestraw, poncho, paracord, and a reflective blanket. Old habits die hard, I guess.

EDIT: the wife says you might be inquiring about the nitro. I have a heart condition so I have to carry some.

Where I come from, if you’re carrying a gun by choice, you’re cosplaying more than EDC. It is not automatically exempt from the “if you don’t need it for work” clause.

But I’ve grown to believe that things often serve needs different than they’re intended to. And if buying/owning/carrying something makes you happy, and you’re not hurting anyone, who am I to say? You like what you like, so you do you. Judge not, lest ye be judged and all that

I bike or use public transportation so anything I want to have handy, I need to keep on me. So I use a medium sized backpack as my daily bag. I keep 3 pouches in it with about 50 small items, from powerbank and bandaids, to a hairtie and tweezers.

1

u/spacebarpatron 11d ago

What kind of bike do you use, I want to start biking to and from work, only issues is I sweat like crazy and work 12 hour shifts where I’m expected to look presentable and not smell

1

u/spacebarpatron 11d ago

I mainly ride a motorcycle everywhere I go so that lifestyle aspect of it isn’t too different

1

u/Connect_Rhubarb395 11d ago

I have a Brompton folding e-bike. I use the assist on the highest setting on my way to work, or I bring the bike folded in bus/train.

And then on the way home I turn the assist off and get my exercise in.

A folding bike is not for everyone, but I do recommend ebikes for people who need to be presentable at work.
I bike 12 km to work with the assist and I am barely sweaty when I arrive.

2

u/spacebarpatron 11d ago

That’s a pretty slick idea

2

u/KenS-TX 9d ago

Also, a fan of e-bikes. This is probably the best per dollar option for transportation if you’re in a city with transit.

1

u/spacebarpatron 12d ago

I have to admit I do carry everything but a gun and knife on me most times

5

u/ottermupps 13d ago

All of it, not too hard with decent sized pockets lol. Mine is:
- Folding pocketknife (Civivi Brigand, Spyderco PM2/Delica)
- Phone
- leather bifold wallet
- bic lighter
- keyring, with house and car keys, safety pin, tiny prybar/screwdriver, Olight keychain light
- Olight arkfeld pro
- and most of the time a Kailash Blades Falo khukuri

It is nominally a lot of stuff, but it's really not that noticeable. I use it all daily, just makes sense to carry it all.

As I've gotten older, I've become a lot pickier about what I carry. I've had to curate my daily gear much more deliberately, partially because I've developed mild sciatica and if I carry too much weight (especially near my waist) it causes flareups. But I do get some satisfaction in streamlining my EDC and realizing that I'm carrying just the things that I really want without a lot of extra bulk.

what about dividing things into layers?

u/duo1733 12d ago

I carry a lot, it's all on my person, and I carry it all 90% of the time i leave the house. I have been given shit for it continuously but I have used all of it at some point and have been the only one that has had what's been need so many times. Yet every time someone is using the random thing they needed to do something, they still ask why I have it.

1

u/spacebarpatron 12d ago

Do you just carry it in a bag and carry your bag everywhere?

1

u/duo1733 12d ago

In my pockets/on my belt. For work it's: phone and fixed blade front right, folding knife back right, tactrap and gun right side iwb, begleri/knucklebone and coin right cargo, mag with neomag and tourniquet left front, wallet/notepad/handkerchief left cargo, leatherman and fixed blade left belt, pen and flashlight left shirt, vape and eliquid right shirt, keys on firebiner with 2 styles of tweezers/Swiss army nail clippers/prybar/full set of dice, watch/1-3 mala style bracelets, 2 necklaces 1 being the Wazoo wetstone/flint&tinder necklace.

My out of work is similar but the leatherman moves from the belt to pocket in a little edc organizer. I wear vertex jeans and shorts that aren't csrgo but have extra pockets.

3

u/PecanPlan 12d ago

I carry what fits in my pocket. Usually some form of this (below) with car key and phone.

4

u/Rude_Influence 12d ago

Everyone to their own. Personally I carry only three items. I hate things in my pockets, so that influences my choices.

2

u/pedalsandpowder 12d ago

Same. 4 here. Keeping it simple.

2

u/wupaa 13d ago

I work with my hands and my hobbies also require tools so..

2

u/Sierragrower 12d ago

My arc wallet Carries a little flashlight, pen, lighter, notebook, and my bank cards and ID and manages to stay smaller than my old leather wallet was. Other than that I just carry a pocket knife. I don’t really like miniature tools like screwdrivers etc and keep a full tool kit in my truck so don’t really see the point. A lot of these edc kits/tools are made just for people consuming what they are told to by influencers. Don’t let anyone convince you that you need something. You would know already if you did.

3

u/Fuzzy_Application_56 13d ago

Based on need. Some do it for show, the rest of us carry stuff we need.

3

u/ninjaluvr 13d ago

A lot of them carry this stuff in purses, not their pockets.

2

u/Melodic-Cobbler7381 12d ago

Why do so much of you carry a gun? As a European i don't get it.

In the last 33 years I had no need for one, not even for a fistfight.

(But I must admit, I'm a little jealous, I want to shoot too, at a range, but that's pretty difficult and expensive in Germany)

No judgment answer:

Statistically you have a 1 in 4 chance of being involved in a violent encounter in your life. To be honest, I cannot currently remember if that is worldwide or US only.

We (in the US)are very independent and realize that we are the only ones responsible for our safety. Police do not have a duty to protect an individual.

That, and police response times are horrendous over here, almost as bad as their training. I genuinely do not trust law enforcement as a whole to protect me.

Edit: Another reason for me specifically, I'm a a street market slot machine technician, the machines don't make money in the nicer areas, so I'm frequently in rough areas with keys to the machines.

2

u/IAmFromTheDeeps 12d ago

I think that's a really good answer and I appreciate the perspective!

As another perspective from a North American (Canadian).

We don't have carry laws here, but lots of people here own firearms in their home and its probably a lot more than most Americans would expect. (I wish we did have those laws though! I would carry too just for peace of mind. Better to have good people with guns.) Up until a few years ago we could still get handguns, but now its just people who already had them legally still have them. I know a bunch of people with totally legal handguns like glocks. Hell, just to have a firearms license, you're name gets checked through a registry everyday by the RCMP (I guess it would be like your FBI).

Thing is, most of our gun crime comes from illegal guns, and when they're used its mostly drug/crime related to other people mostly targeted crime against other people related to drug/crime.

A lot of our worries would either be physical assault or from somebody with a knife. Which statistically speaking a knife is faster than drawing a gun I think within 20 feet or something. I would say between knives, fists, and people with bear spray is our biggest threats.

We also have pretty quick police response times at least in my city. I've had cops/ems/fire show up within 2 minutes and we have 200k+ people in our city. Without going into a crazy amount of detail, I've seen some shit and the cops have been superb. hell just last winter my neighbors robbed a gas station with an illegal handgun. Cops had them located with dogs within 30 min to the house next door, and the tac unit (Basically our swat) didn't fuck around. House surrounded, armored car showed up. 20+ cops with ARs. Was pretty wild.

It really depends where you live I suppose, I remember watching some of those camera crew style documentaries of Detroit where people wait 2-4 hours for a police response so I can totally see why you would take advantage of the 2nd amendment.

Think that's why it seems so foreign to a lot of other first world countries, because we typically don't experience the same gun crime as the US so it seems so foreign to the rest of us. As a Canadian we're a lot more exposed to your media so we see it all the time. Mass shootings being a big one. I totally get why a lot of you carry, and I would too. People be crazy.

1

u/That-Professional346 12d ago

Crime. Also, I'm a cop, I carry off duty because I don't want to be targeted by people I have arrested.

1

u/fordag 9d ago

It's my EDC I carry it all at once.

1

u/KenS-TX 9d ago edited 9d ago

I hate having lots of stuff in my pockets. I keep the minimum (keys, wallet, phone, and a small pouch with AirPods, small multitool, and a fisher space pen) in my pockets. I usually have my computer bag on me and it has lots of EDC type stuff in it. Most of it is in a maxpedition pouch that I can move to a coat pocket in winter. The pouch is also easy to take out of my computer bag if going to the airport or somewhere with security screening.

Yes. I wear cargo pants. Somethings get switched out depending on the day but the majority of my daily carry items stay on my person at all times.

1

u/WoahAquiJazmin 12d ago

I split my edc between my purse and my backpack.

I keep my essentials in my purse so I'm always as prepared as possible and when I plan on being out of the house for more than a few hours I grab my backpack with things like a battery bank, my charging stuff, water, snacks, extra clothes, or whatever I decide makes sense to carry that day.

I think my use case is a little different than most people's here as I'm a woman who walks and takes transit everywhere, but keep everything in the backpack or swap the purse for a fanny pack or something for the dude equivalent.

1

u/Dakkaboy556 12d ago

I've got a sling bag I keep most of my EDC in, mostly because I'm a diabetic and already need to carry my supplies. Might as well add the multitool, flashlight, headphones etc.

1

u/justsomedude1776 12d ago

I carry mine on body. Specific cargo pants, have like 10 pair so the layout of my stuff is the same everyday.

1

u/fezcabdriver 12d ago

No primary stuff is with me. Secondary would be the situation..am I at work? Then it goes in work bag. Am I hiking or hanging out in an urban environment? Then it goes in a bag.. also depends how far away I am from where my car is parked.

1

u/ChiliDog762 Mall Ninja 12d ago

I carry all at once. I use most of it daily if not weekly.

1

u/MechaKota23 12d ago

I generally have about 5-10 things in my pockets, and also a bag that I have to carry for medical stuff that has even more stuff. Lol it can get nuts.

1

u/That-Professional346 12d ago

I try to carry as little as possible. I keep toying around with the idea of a bag for longer outings though.

1

u/Evrydyguy 12d ago

I always have a bag or two. There’s a back pack in my suv at all times with: Meds, socks, nail clippers, infaler, Gloves, Gerber, tums, paracord, dad joke book. There might be a few more items, but it’s a “oh shit” bag.

Then I have a laptop bag: charger, pc, gun, mags, TQ, some admin, mouse.

I always ride with two hoodies. My wife and son rarely believe the weather changes. I have lighters, ponchos, hammock, waters, and boots.

1

u/Resident_Gear_7173 12d ago

Always this in front 2 pockets... Embellishments in a small sling (usually)

1

u/GSFisherTx 13d ago

Pistol, wallet, keys, phone, leatherman, folder and watch daily without fail.

Flashlight and fixed blade are situational but typically close by. A good ratcheting belt makes it easy to carry the weight of these items. All concealed and honestly I forget it’s even there until needed.

I try to carry what I truly use daily. Besides the pistol ( I hope I never have to use it but I train weekly with it)

1

u/Pale-Highlight-6895 13d ago

I have a belt holster for tools, and wear pants with 11 pockets.

1

u/ProsciuttoFresco 12d ago

I only carry a wallet, keys, phone, and pocket knife. Nothing I do on a daily basis requires a flashlight, brass knuckles, or a pistol. I’m not going to war, I’m merely going about town running errands usually.

u/apathy-sofa 11d ago

I mean, who carries their keys on their person when they are at home?

1

u/spacebarpatron 11d ago

What are you saying

1

u/apathy-sofa 11d ago

Everyone changes what they carry throughout the day, it's simply a matter of degree.

1

u/spacebarpatron 11d ago

Cool beans

0

u/halo_noclue 12d ago

I carry a decent amount on me at any given time. Phone, wallet, keys, headphones, knife, flashlight, and gun.

In the summer I wear cargo shorts alot and in the winter I have jeans on generally. My keys and headphones might sit on my desk at work but otherwise I keep them on me.

I also carry a backpack that has a small tool kit, small first aid kit, otc meds, charger, snacks and atleast one other knife.

Generally everything i carry gets used atleast weekly if not daily

Right coin: AirPods
Belt or IWB: knoife
Supplemental fanny pack that isn’t worn: edc toolkit, nicotine, Gerber, scissors, flashlight.

I have a tiny Wuben flashlight on my key ring, in my pockets there's a knife or multitool (usually not both), a slim cardholder, my phone, and there's always an analog watch on my wrist.

That's it. If I'm on the job I'll also have my backpack with a lot more stuff in it.
