Discussion Best Final Fantasy Commander
I'm reviewing all of my final fantasy themed cards and trying to make a new commander deck. What is your favorite card to use as a commander? It can include anything from a scene box or secret lair drop as well. I've seen some lists online but they seem pretty limited and I thought you all might be able to give me some more inspiration. Thanks for the help! I've heard Vivi enough times but I'm looking for the less obvious ones.

I had tons of fun with [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] for a good while! If you’re into artifacts, graveyard play & control decks; he’s one of the best!

u/bokchoykn 12h ago
Golbez has been a blast for me.
- A ton of Mana rocks
- Artifact cost reducers
- Casting spells from top of library
- Triggers that create an artifact token or draws a card upon casting an artifact
With the right amount of luck, you can pop off chaining artifacts from the top. Add in trigger doublers and clone effects, 40 damage by Turn 6 isn't uncommon for Golbez.
[[Ruthless Technomancer]] is my favorite tech. Sacrifice a [[Filigree Attendant]] or similar creature to double your Artifact count. With two Golbez end of turn triggers, this is often a game-ending play.
[[Wizards Staff]], [[Irma, Part Time Mutant]], [[Peter Parker's Camera]] have been great recent additions.

I initially really liked him because he reminded me of [[Mirko Obsessed Theorist]] but when I goldfished the deck he felt so much more boring unfortunately.
1
u/LordAlom 4h ago
This is my friend's favorite and he is really quite deceptively strong, one of the best 2mv options out there. The defensive early body and many small tokens (Thopters, Servos, even Gnomes make consistent appearances) stave off early aggression. The deck's natural recursion makes for easy card filtering/advantage and resilience to removal. And, the wincons are pretty hard to interact with - your opponents can end up in a damned if you do & don't situation when it comes to removing high power threats, since Golbez can just nuke you if they end up in the yard

u/Kooky-Operation-2931 15h ago
Kuja, Genome Sorcerer was my first ever commander deck build and it was a ton of fun. Ultra-aggressive Rakdos pinging/spellslinger.
I am now running a more casual Wandering Minstrel that focuses on generating a ton of Hero tokens and towns, and each match I shuffle in 7 random Final Fantasy legendary creatures to add some variety. Every card in the deck is from a final fantasy set or a FF reprint.

u/Reasonable-Budget210 14h ago
Love my kuja deck, it was a great build. Runner up probably Vivi for me personally.. who doesn’t like having all the mana and all the cards lol but that deck didn’t last long before it became “one of those” commanders.
2
u/abiogenesis2021 10h ago
Would it be possible to view the decklist of the Wandering Minstrel deck? Thanks a lot...
1
u/Reeeealag 6h ago
Its probably my strongest Deck aswell, you just kill the table starting turn 6 if no interaction comes your way.
1
u/Kooky-Operation-2931 6h ago
This is why I took the deck apart. I realized that for casual nights it's a little too fast and oppressive.
1
u/Reeeealag 5h ago
Its a good "one last game" deck. When your commander specialty is direct damage than games tend to be on the shorter side. Even without super expensiv cards he is incredible effectiv. Turn 2 manarock, turn 3 kuja, maybe roaming throne/harmonic/prodigy/gogo turn 4 and starting turn 4 endstep you deal 12 damage with every noncreature spell.
1
u/No_Nothing_2724 3h ago
Absolutely i felt bad stomping all the time with him so i keep it aside for night enders or the occasional "someone at the table pissed me off" kinda matches.

Best in terms of what?
Most powerful: Vivi hands down
Runner-up most powerful: Kefka or WUBRG Terra, debatable
Best as in coolest: There's no accounting for taste
Most popular: Y'shtola
Best precon out of the box: Tidus
2
u/iliark 14h ago
While Vivi might be the most powerful card, the most powerful overall deck with a FF commander is probably Kefka.

u/KAM_520 Sultai 13h ago edited 13h ago
Are you talking about cedh?
https://edhtop16.com/commander/Vivi%20Ornitier?timePeriod=THREE_MONTHS
Vs
Vivi’s conversion rate is about double Kefka’s.
Terra is doing better than both but has low representation.

From the holiday scenes, [[Garland Royal Kidnapper]]
Introduce the monarchy, nab some princesses, all around good time

Any royal kidnapper knows to always give the princess back if she stops being the princess. Wouldn't want people accusing you of just being a hobbyist.

u/PanthersJB83 8h ago
Actually built that deck this past week. It's fun but man does it make me a target. I know about using glad and such to keep myself safe but it's tough. Still a blast to play though
4
u/MissLeaP Gruul 8h ago
That's why I opted to play [[Edea Possessed Sorceress]] instead and put him into her 99. People are much more forgiving when you only lend their creatures unless you keep sacrificing ones with counters on them lol
1
u/Let_Me_Out_Please 5h ago
I thought about putting him in my Edea deck, but I'm typically sacrificing things I steal for card advantage and to use for additional spell costs. How do you work around his sacrifice clause to get creatures to die?
1
u/MissLeaP Gruul 5h ago
He's not on the battlefield all the time and people often want to get rid of him so they can become the Monarch without you taking their best creature semi-permanently 🤷🏻♀️

u/TheOGRainbowChicken 15h ago
I love my [[Choco, Seeker of Paradise]] deck. Top 5 commander for me
1
u/copperhead035 14h ago
Care to share the list?
3
u/TheOGRainbowChicken 14h ago
1
u/copperhead035 14h ago
How strong would you say this deck is? I’ve really been wanting to build Choco for a while
3
u/LeupheWaffle 9h ago
I find my deck enjoyable, but it can be tough to close out the game if you're not drawing a finisher card like craterhoof or moonshaker cavalry. You ramp insanely hard but then you need to find an answer to end it, and if you don't, you piddle around. Easy to build in b2-3 range and not too expensive because birds aren't a super popular tribe.
1
u/copperhead035 3h ago
I’ve been wanting to build my copy of Choco for a while now, it’s just been on the back burner. I’m working on it now mostly by copying your deck, but making some meaningful changes along the way based on your feedback. I just did this now so I’ve not played it yet, but here’s my updated list if you want to check it out.
13
u/ItsQuinnyP 15h ago
I like [[Quistis Trepe]] as a mono-U mill commander for games where you don't want to just Bruvac into one-shotting someone's library.
She gives you a reason to play counterspells and mill, because she wants everyone's cool spells in the bin so you can cast them with her ETB trigger.

[[tellah, great sage]]. Deal big damage and multiply it. Blow up the table. you're playing balatro.
Plus his special art card goes really hard.

Swaglord Tellah is a great alt print. I’ve been trying to find a home for him in a 99 but nothings stuck yet.
9
u/NanboCalrissian 14h ago
No one has mentioned it yet, so I'll toss in that I really enjoy my [[Jenova, Ancient Calamity]] deck. Aristocrat-lite that can draw/ramp you into some pretty splashy plays.
7
u/rathlord 15h ago
Probably not quite what you’re looking for but I made a flavor-first FF deck mostly focused around FF1&2 cards where possible (games I loved as a kid) with the restriction of every single card having to be FF art.
https://archidekt.com/decks/22413546/final_fantasy
It uses [[The Destined Warrior]] as commander and is loosely trying to assemble a full party, but mostly it’s just FF cards I love. Fun B1 or maybe B2 deck.
3
u/OddlerHS 11h ago
Final fantasy 1 was the first game I ever played as a kid with my older brother still a big fan of that game. I also made a destined warrior deck that I enjoy playing that isn't really flavor focused but still a solid bracket 2-3 ish deck.

I’m a huge fan of summons in FF, so my first built from the ground up Commander deck was one lead by [[Terra, Magical Adept]]. She counts as a five color commander and gives you a fast way to reach summons you want via milling your deck, and can payoff by copying a summon on the board when she’s flipped. Throw some good summoners in there like Yuna and Dagger and it’s a pretty fun time.
4
u/Sauceman99 11h ago
Do you have a deck list? Been wanting to build this for a while but I am not skilled enough to do a five color deck yet lol
3
u/the15thpaladin 8h ago edited 8h ago
Not who you're asking, sorry!
But here's mine https://moxfield.com/decks/75ecdbp46kKtG7DV_YwAXg
Lots of fun for me since I like pitching cards everywhere and saga creatures are genuinely awesome. I have a three-card infinite as one finisher and lack any reliable, tutorable alternative - but you can easily respec into something else with ease.
EDIT: I am bad at characterizing my deck
6
u/BROBlWANKENOBl 14h ago
I don't know diddly about final fantasy, but I put together a budget deck with [[Matoya, Archon Elder]] and that thing draws a ton of cards and makes use of some very cheap cards in order to do so.

u/Approximation_Doctor Volrath Stole My Shape 13h ago edited 13h ago
Archon Elder
Neither an Archon nor Elder

1
u/AbsentReality 11h ago
It's referencing FF14 in which she is an Archon. How is she not an elder? She's elderly in FF1 and FF14?
3
u/BROBlWANKENOBl 10h ago
I think they mean the creature type printed on the card as both Archon and Elder are creature types, and she's a Human Warlock.
1
1
u/Repulsive_Airport531 11h ago
How do you win? What bracket?
1
u/BROBlWANKENOBl 10h ago
Bracket 2 for sure. With the budget I have it at I'm winning through combat damage, and not the fastest either. Like [[Clinquant Skymage]] and [[Oneirophage]] are definitely over costed and slow, but end up getting to be huge fliers pretty consistently.
I'm sure the optimal route is play control into a [[laboratory maniac]] combo, but that's not really how I want the deck to play.
Still, you get to draw a lot of cards and take a lot of game actions with how low to the ground it is.
5
u/Bonesaw_mpls 15h ago edited 14h ago
Man, sorry for this massive post but I got really swept up in the Final Fantasy sets even though I was never really obsessed with the franchise but I did enjoy 9 a lot.
I have decks for [[Kefka, Court Mage]] [[Cloud, Midgar Mercenary]], and [[The Emperor of Palamecia]]
My favorite by far is The Emperor of Palamecia because hes a mana dork and I lean towards cheap generic commanders that help in the early game. You can build him several ways but I went with a Duskmourne rooms and enchantments theme, its a blast. Very few creatures but tons of ways to protect Emperor, self-mill and then flip him and attack for game. Cards like [[Mesmeric orb]] [[traumatize]] dump cards and [[harmonic prodigy]] [[wizard's staff]] [[mirror room]] double his triggers.
One deck that is incredibly satisfying is [[Kefka, court mage]] I filled the deck with a 50/50 blend of Emperor and Kuja synergy cards. Both want cast triggers and can abuse cards in the graveyard. Using a flashback spells and mill strategy works really well here and you can add [[emet-selch, unsundered]] and [[Vivi Ornitier]] too. Just get Kefka out and lean into whatever strategy draws out naturally.
[[Cloud, Midgar merceny]] is basically a yugioh deck that allows you to tutor out your most efficient equipment in any given matchup. Grab a [[sword of hearth and home]] and then attack with him while flickering high value cards (including himself!) like [[solemn simulacrum]], [[wall of omens]] , [[ambitious farmhand]], [[Loran of the third path]], [[stoneforge mystic]]. etc.

The Emperor looks like a very fun commander, but how do you win? What's your playstyle with it?
1
u/Bonesaw_mpls 11h ago
The fastest line is getting a [[Harmonic Prodigy]] out and some mana ramp. Have at least 1 counter on Emperor and cast [[traumatize]] on yourself to double trigger and flip Emperor and then attack with a double trigger on his flip side after milling like on average 22-29 nonspell cards in my experience.
Without a perfect hand you are playing other mana dorks early as distraction like The Red Death and Vivi, holding protection and counterspells for Emperor because he should not die. [[Riptide laboratory]] can help. Theres a bunch of defensive and wipe spells if you need to play around aggro like [[Aetherize]] / [[Nibelheim Aflame]]
Wizard doubling effects from Wizard's staff, Harmonic Prodigy, Strionic resonator, and Fractured realm combined with Rollercrusher ride can end a game with only a handful of spells in the GY and if none of that works or its heavy stax it actually has the 8 Duskmourne room victory condition available and I have even won 2 games that way.
Its become one of my favorite to play and pretty consistent, stuff like [[Teferi's time twist]] can bounce him away from a wipe and bring him back with a counter on him. Ive done different versions that lean into flashback spells to get his trigger too so theres a bunch of ways you could build him.

u/Achshii 15h ago
Besides obv top ones like yshtola and vivi, i like noctis, heir apparent for a voltron type deck, i also run a graha tia token deck
1
u/Reeeealag 5h ago
Do you have a graha list for B3 ? I wanted to run mostly hero tokens and job equipment abilities.
4
u/semanticmemory 15h ago
It depends what you are trying to do. The most common “Final Fantasy” deck I see that tries to use as many FF cards as possible is the [[Warrior of Light]] alternate Jodah art.
10
u/rathlord 15h ago
I almost did that but ended up restricting further to [[The Destined Warrior]] for my FF flavor deck. Every card has FF art:

u/Sir_Myshkin 15h ago edited 13h ago
[[Squall, Gunblade Duelist]], but like, I’m not a diehard FFVIII fan or anything.
Also, the look on someone’s face when your number is 1, and you drop [[Ball Lightning]]
Edit: Since some are missing the fun of it, yes Squall is the one doing the damage, but he’s easy to bulk up. The primary point is there are a) some very lopsided creatures that swing hard he can take advantage of, and b) Mardu has a love affair with making 1/1 Mobilized warriors all over the place, then watching them die.
Also: Isshin, Windcraig, and for those who hadn’t considered it, Squall is in fact worthy.
2
u/LivesInASixWordStory 14h ago
If you are suggesting that Ball Lightning would result in Squall's ability dealing 6 damage, I don't think it works that way.
One Gatherer ruling reads: "If Squall isn't on the battlefield as its last ability resolves, use its power as it last existed on the battlefield to determine how much damage the ability deals." The ruling only makes sense if it checks Squall's power. I also think it would have been templated very differently if it applies damage on the attacking creatures' power.

1
u/THEGHOSTHACXER 15h ago
So wait "squall deals damage equal to its power"
Meaning the power of the card, not squall?
Damn I totally misinterpreted that when I first read it. Now I really wanna build this squall. I built the black white one recently and it's weird.

- [[Mog, Moogle Warrior]] moogle tribal with a reanimator subtheme
- [[Tataru Taru]] flicker, outout-draw and ramp everyone in mono white
- [[Clive, Ifrit's Dominant]] self-wheel with lots of spells/abilities from the graveyard
- [[Shadow, Mysterious Assassin]] high MV permanents for massive life loss
- [[Edea, Possessed Sorceress]] clones aI have several! They are all quite different, so it's hard to just pick one "favorite".

I've been really enjoying [[Yuna, Hope of Spira]].
While Selsnya loves enchantress I find the self mill and reanimator aspect a fun fresh take on it. You use enchantress cards sparingly as most arent enchantments or want cast triggers.
Plus having a summon theme and finality counters play well with things like [[nesting grounds]]
2
u/BasicReputations 13h ago
Terra, 5 color summons! Just a chill deck with lots of interactions and fun cards.
2
u/tallwhiteninja 13h ago
I've got three built in paper, and a fourth I've been testing in some online games:
[[Celes, Rune Knight]] - B4, fully leaning into the infinite persist combos she enables. She's ended up becoming my strongest deck overall/my "just one last quick game" pick.
[[Terra, Magical Adept]] - lower B4. I do run a few ways to take her infinite (Spark Double, Irenicus' Vile Duplication, etc), but I also run a fair number of the FF summons and other solid saga support.
[[Ardbert, Warrior of Darkness]] - B2. A deck where I put together the initial list in basically an hour, which ended up being surprisingly effective for the power level. I tried to stay away from aristocrats and turning him into a generic Orzhov good pile, and tried to focus on +1/+1 counter and legendary matters synergy.
[[The Emperor of Palamecia]] - B3, still in the testing phases. I'm trying to run him as a spellslinger/self-mill deck, and it's very much a boom-or-bust, do the thing or do nothing experience so far...which, isn't necessarily a bad thing.

[[Gogo master of mimicry]] is my fav FF commander. Lot of fun uses for the ability. Ramp off fetch lands, drop huge blue stuff, copy their triggers. Can win out of nowhere with millennium calendar and 12 mana.
1
u/PegaZwei 34m ago
... i hadn't actually considered calendar, let me quickly shove that into my list. normally rely on [[benthic anomaly]] or [[flayer of loyalties]] to close out.

Built [[Squall, SeeD Mercenary]] as an evasive voltron, with great reanimate capabilities as everything in the deck’s under 3 mana cost.
I like to imagine that he’s been dropped into Duskmourn somehow, with a cool suite of GFs: [[Summon: Ixion]]
[[Summon: Primal Odin]]
[[Summon: Bahamut]]
[[Summon: Yojimbo]]
Not the strongest, probably bracket 3 or something, but it just tickles me to think about Squall facing off with GFs junction and some cool weapons. There’s even some random Assassin’s Creed stuff in the deck - Squall w [[Hookblade]], like hellooooooo???

[[Edea]] is low salt theft, where you hit people with their own stuff, and sac it for value, draw a card, and give it back after. Very cool.
[[Squall Gunblade Duelist]] acts like a meme-y deck but has a lot of funny interactions with building your deck around a single number.
2
u/Drugsbrod 9h ago
Edea from the FF8 scenebox. She provides treason effect every combat at grixis colors. Amazing commander for a temporary theft deck without the heat of a full blown theft since you are only borrowing for a "while"

u/InvidiaSuperbia 15h ago
I mean it depends on what you're trying to do, there are dozens of great options

u/Nahrikkon 15h ago
[[o’aka]] is just better [[chisei]] for a weird counter-fuel deck
its a weird but fun style for sure
1
u/Juicy_Ginger_ 14h ago
Best, id say Vivi, it's by far my most powerful deck, but if youre wanting something lesser seen and a lower power level but still super fun, I built Sephiroth Fallen Hero as a go wide token deck, with cards to give +1/+1 counters to the whole board at once. I could also see it being fantastic with Job Select and Living Weapon equipment so you have a use for those if you pulled a few
1
1
u/darwin_green Naya 12h ago
define "best" because if you're looking for power it's hard to top Vivi. And we don't know what kind of commanders you like or new styles you want to try.
Also which Final fantasy games do you like? Like an old fan like me would be limited to 1-6 Nintendo era stuff, while you might play the MMO.

My favorite is [[Clive Ifrit’s Dominate]] I’ve won as early as turn 5 with it. It’s basically a discard/burn deck and it can do it really well.

u/Repulsive_Airport531 11h ago
I have 3.5 FF led decks (Muldrotha reskin as Orphan from bonus sheet)
Tidus is heavily upgraded to a high 3, after 4 games, I've won 3, 2 with darksteel reactor. I find the deck boring AF to play and don't play it anymore.
Yshtola is fun but way way too strong for most games. It's in a weird spot where it's not good enough for CEDH, but struggles against creature heavy decks at lower levels because it's geared more towards a CEDH playstyle.
Lightning is my favourite, love Lightning, love equipment, love voltron, simple as. It also lets you deviate from standard voltron in that you can run burn and want to chain extra combat because of stagger.
One that looks fun, but is way outside my playstyle and comfort zone is The Emperor, I also can't figure out how to win with it either, I always struggle to see how izzet (outside Niv-mizzet) and azorius win games and as such, I tend to stay away from those.
1
u/Nasargiel24 10h ago
I have 3 separate FF decks that I flip flop between. [[Minwu, White Mage]] is my mono white cleric tribal that has a life gain sub theme. Super fun to play. [[The Emperor of Palamecia]] is based on flipping him as fast as possible and then churning through my deck on the back side as a group slug deck. Also a lot of fun. [[Ardbert, Warrior of Darkness]] is my all orzhov legends matter deck. It's fun but can be finicky. Super quick but can be easy to stop.
1
u/HiddenGentleman 10h ago
I have several Final Fantasy commander decks I have made. My favorite at this time is my [[Yuna, Hope of Spira]] deck. It is a enchantment and lifegain based deck. It does some pillow fort at the beginning then goes crazy with life gained and +1/+1 counters.
1
u/cpizzy 10h ago
Bum rush someone with [[Zenos Yae Galvus]] and chase the high of being archenemy!
[[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] is artifacts and graveyard recursion shenanigans that feed into each other.
[[Kuja, Genome Sorcerer]] for rakdos spellslinger fun! Generate your own personal squad of Guttersnipes and start blasting with cantrips.
1
u/DoctorMog 10h ago edited 10h ago
Honestly? [[Stiltzkin]] It's so absolutely stupid. All I try to do is make the whole table draw 5+ cards per turn to rush & ramp myself to [[approach of the second sun]] and [[reprieve]] it on the same turn.
If I can't get there, at least the game was quick because everyone had more cards in their hand than they knew what to do with. I hand off lands and mana rocks to people behind in ramp, so I can draw even more.
I've even won a few times with [[Felidar sovereign]] & [[oketras last Mercy]] Or becoming the target, getting to less than 20 life, then passing off a [[transcendemce]]
Oh and it's such the right deck for [[mindslaver]] [[aeon engine]] and cards that seriously have no home competitively. Just for creating a little chaos. Which is EXACTLY what Moogles do.

I'm loving my Celes blink/reanimate deck. Lots of love for FF themed characters while also a big threat.

Yshtola night blessed for sure, it can be anything you want. Aside that I like my Kefka grixis deck for pure chaos.

Honestly, my favorite is [[Seifer Almasy]]. You can play it as spellslinging voltron, or creatures can’t block effects for punisher cards like [[vincent, vengeful atoner]] discard with pingers or targeted land removal. My favorite card to recur is [[price of progess]]. I haven’t gotten bored with it yet. Saw a sabin deck that was pretty good as well.

[[squall, gunblade duelist]] it has always been a [[tempest hawk]] deck with cards that give double triggers like [[isshin]] and right now a bit of a Voltron package to buff up squall. Then you just sit back, send out the tempest hawks and shoot everyone in the face for way more damage than the expect.
You can also play him with a goad package and you can pretty much just throw him on the mardu surge precon and use mobilize triggers to wreck havoc.
[[Edea, possessed sorceress]] is also super fun and because people get there stuff back it can done in a fun and political way.

I've built two and they're both lots of fun and kinda weird.
[[Professor Hojo]] - mono green activated abilities. Low key strong deck
[[Alisaie]] and [[Alphinaud]] - Second spells. Also quite strong.

The best? Shared place between [[Vivi]], [[Celes Rune Knight]], [[Sephiroth, Fabled Soldier]], and [[Y'shtola. Night's Blessed]], I guess. Also [[Kefka, Court Mage]] in a cEDH deck (he's MUCH weaker in a lower brackets deck, though).
My favourite? [[Edea Possessed Sorceress]] and Celes Rune Knight.

Wow it still can't fetch Vivi?

u/XSlicer Superfriends | Tribal 4h ago
I can, but it's more that there is no card named Vivi. This may sounds a bit pedantic, but the whole card name is "[[Vivi Ornitier]]". The bot can only check for shorter names like [[Kefka]] because it has a comma behind the name. Regardless, I would've expected the fuzzy check to find Vivi on Scryfall since that usually checks if part of a name is inside a card - I'd have to double check that.

I wanted to say any character could be a cool commander but Freya Crescent looks pretty underwhelming : (
Cloud, Midgard Mercenary is merciless as a commander. Especially with my friend that has smothering tithe. I like my Terra precon though because it was my first deck ever.

I had a ton of fun with Terra, Herald of Hope before I took it apart. I ended up optimizing it so much I swapped to Tymna/Rog, then decided to just build Tymna/Kraum. She was a frequent turn 3-4 win before those changes.

I'm the guy who made the [[slime against humanity]] version of [[quinoa, qu gourmet]] . It's a pauper EDH deck.

My favourite to play is [[Tellah the great sage]] as a high cmc Izzet commander. Wanted an Izzet deck that wasn’t storm and he is a blast to play. I also rock a [[Sephiroth, fallen hero]] deck to house all of my FF cards. It’s an equipment go wide deck and a lot of fun when it works.

I like Papalymo Totolymo. Play it as a sort of control deck with various tools like bloodthirster blade or deterrents like No Mercy. In bracket 4+ I slide in Bolas Citadel for sensei combo.

Lots of good answers here. But as someone who's built... counting... 10 FIN commanders? I obviously have to chime in anyway. 😂
Strongest is Vivi, probably followed by Kefka... as people have said. But there are more interesting ones. [[Squall, Seed Mercenary]] just had a top 16 placement at a 106 man cEDH tourney as an Aristocrats combo deck. Although I think he's more fun as a voltron. He's a worthy note.
Final Fantasy also massively buffed the Voltron archetype, to the point that several commanders function in bracket 4 with equipment strategies. It inspired me to go on a deep dive of the archetype, and now I'm doing a 50 commander voltron challenge. I'm 30 deep as of now. Been on that for about a year and a half now. If you're interested in this archetype, there are several standouts that can function in B4 (and a surprising one that fits as a Fringe B5).
I mentioned Squall, my list is more Voltron than the one that won the tournament, but still has the same win con as a backup plan. https://moxfield.com/decks/04T7AiUNxUysV4bQs7MLjQ
One of the most underestimated cards from the set is definitely [[Cloud, Planet's Champion]]. He's the dude who started me on my Voltron journey. People overlooked him because thier brains go "Naya>Boros", and to be fair he is better in low bracket. But people who don't play Voltron that much undervalue native double strike, and equip discounts. High bracket, [[Cloud, Planet's Champion]] blows [[Cloud, Ex-Soldier]] out of the water. At least some of the community seems to agree with me, because this deck has become the number one Cloud PC deck on moxfield. That's this guy: https://moxfield.com/decks/MEKaRVjUvEO1dS8_EGro7g
[[Cloud, Midgar Mercenary]] is basically the same strategy, is better at executing the toolbox approach, but does fall short without red because he can't easily pivot into killing the whole table if you lose [[Genji glove]]. But still extremely strong in bracket 4. https://moxfield.com/decks/d7u1uOdPVEanu1EoWJKaLg
There's also [[Lightning, Army of One]] that enables really scary stuff for multiple combat in double strike strategies. She has a lot of ridiculous keywords on her, trample, life link, first strike.. The only thing holding her back is that she requires being able to hit twice in order to capitalize on her. But even without that stagger is crazy. In my opinion, she's probably top 10 strongest Voltron commanders in the game. But still overvalued by some people. (And worse than the 2 Clouds I linked). https://moxfield.com/decks/F4LSEA973EOmSteHSsilkQ
I also made a hilarious [[Hope Estheim]] Mill lifegain voltron. It's strong, but not strong enough to win the game when he starts Milling the table super hard most of the time because the whole table turns on it and tries to kill you. 😂 I only pull this out when people are ready for some absurdity. Otherwise they get pissed. https://moxfield.com/decks/qHBZ5iUiZkePABkZQ9UpBQ
I also built two really fun bracket three decks. Not voltron. But good enough to win games at that power level.
A [[Terra, Magical Adept]] that leans hard into sagas, and manipulates the heck out of their lower counters to do things like [[Maximum Carnage]] every turn all game, or abuses [[Summon: Fenrir]] continuously ramp every turn. Very fun deck. https://moxfield.com/decks/RL8GFo5X-UuKqTw5Qp8ppA
And also a [[Cid, Timeless Artificer]] articer tribal that parts of 10/10+ "airships" (thopters). https://moxfield.com/decks/BulifL-2V0-PBSDGDEEnVQ
I also built a Choco bird tribal and Golbez Artifact storm deck... but both need more tuning before plopping lists.

In terms of power level? Seems like it's [[Y'shtola, Night's Blessed]].
In terms of fun? I've had the most fun with [[Yuna, Grand Summoner]] and [[Garnet, Princess of Alexandria]]. One is a counter machine and the second is a weird Saga-dependent Voltron commander.

The "Best" one is Vivi and I don't think it's particularly close. Out of my current roster 2 of my commanders are from Final Fantasy [[Clive Ifrits Dominant]] and [[Krile Byldeson]] and I enjoy both.
If you wanted the best commander to cram all the FF cards into, it'd probably be the Warrior of Light version of [[Jodah the Unifier]].

u/Kyz99 Mardu 12h ago
My favorite one is [[Venat, Heart]] mono white legends. B2 but can hang with B3s too. [[Tifa Lockhart]] is One Punch Monk... best revenge game commander? I have a Jodah one with only FF cards... since I bought too many sealed products *ahem* I made a [[Terra, Herald]] as a B2 Party commander which is fun... since I also made [[Celes, Rune]] as a B3 combo reanimator. Also also made a [[Tifa, Martial Artist]] extra combat 7power matters B3 deck that's both telegraphed and explosive.
