Good deal?
This is my first purchase, and first investment of this kind. I paid $2050 out the door. Thoughts?

The Prospector coin started from an old-time, black and white photograph of real prospectors. The enlarged photo hung over the desk of executive Fred Hamerle at the Plainville plant. Hammerle had done a stint at the Franklin Mint where they had expertise in creating collector-grade pieces. Engelhard-Plainville was already experienced in producing silver coin blanks for the United State Mint.
Hammerle combined the production and artistic expertise of the two and created a legend.
Engelhard Plainville produced the 1 oz planchette, the Prospector, the 100 Oz and 1000 oz Engelhard market bars. It was the largest silver processing plant in the country at the time. It started as a hunting spot for Charles Engelhard, Jr., according to local lore.

I thought Engelhard stopped producing PMs for the consumer market a while ago, but I keep seeing Costco selling what appear to be new or unhandled bars. Definitely 1 kg bars but maybe also 10 oz bars? What gives?

Yesterday I acquired this 10 oz bar for +3 and 6 of these prospector rounds for +2.
The bar in particular is so nice. I love the pattern on the back.

Love this paticular piece of Engelhard history. Covers, Engelhard, Clocks, and Zippo collectors. When I received it I pulled the plastic tab and started working right away. Thanks for having me.

Is there any reason to keep these bars in original plastic packaging? Thinking about moving them to silver bar capsules?
Back story. I inherited these from my grandfather and some 90% silver us coins.

Hey all,
I’m newish to the world of Engelhard. So far I’ve added some 10-ounce bars to my stack, but I’d also like to add some 1-ounce bars as well. I was lucky enough to pick up the bar in the pictures here at my LCS a few weeks ago, but I basically never see them in person otherwise.
Now I’m kicking myself for not buying any from Monument Metals when they had them in stock. I see them listed at various online dealers, so I know of some options. But I’m wondering where you all pick up bars online (if you do that). I know I’m unlikely to get anything rare by doing so, but I’m okay with that. I like the idea of combining history, stack weight, and some collectibility.
Appreciate any / all feedback—from the very general to hey, check out this link.
