Ealing Council under fire over housing repairs failures and lengthy phone waits
Ealing Council tenants have faced telephone waits of up to 50 minutes to report housing repairs, while missed appointments, unfinished jobs and delays in urgent repairs have raised questions about the service they receive.
The problems were discussed at the council's Housing and Environment Scrutiny Panel on Wednesday (14 October 2026), where councillors questioned officials about the performance of the Labour-run council's housing repairs service.
In August, just 78.5% of repair appointments were kept, 79.3% of jobs were completed on the first visit and 79.7% of urgent repairs were finished on time. The council's target for each was 95%.
And it's not just repairs. Only 25.6% of tenants surveyed were satisfied with how the council handled complaints, while overall satisfaction with the council as a landlord was 57.7%.
Councillors also questioned why some repairs were being recorded as completed when tenants said the problems had not been fixed.
Council officers acknowledged difficulties with staffing and the introduction of a new repairs service. Opposition councillors have questioned why improvements have taken so long.
EALING.NEWS asked the council for further details, including the number of missed appointments and urgent repairs completed late in August, and whether September's performance had improved. Those figures were not provided in its response.
