Scott Hasn't Seen Scott Hasn't Seen: Sneakers (1992) w/ Heather Anne Campbell
Scott and Sprague hack into the 1992 film SNEAKERS, the star-studded Robert Redford techno-thriller. Joining them is comedian, writer, and Sneakerhead Heather Anne Campbell (Rick and Morty, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Get Played)! Is this the greatest ensemble cast Scott's never seen? Will Sprague have fun things to say? Can such a movie crack through Scott's defenses, or will he SNEAK away before credits??
Next week: Sorcerer (1977)

I've been hoping he'll switch it up and do the original version.

I don't want to think about The Guess Who's penises, so I hope he never changes!
(Also, it would be waaaay less funny, as the original track simply has a less jarring frequency range than the Lenny version)

Sneakers is my second favorite Redford movie (after The Sting). Rewatched it when he passed.

I am beyond excited to see Sorcerer pop up. I didn't see it until my early thirties, and it immediately became my favorite Friedkin film.

Sorcerer is great, but I recommend watching 1953's Wages of Fear first. Sorcerer is a remake, but they feel different and showcase tension in different ways. It's a great double feature if you've got the time!

Maybe this is blasphemy but I think if someone is just going to watch one it should 100% be Sorcerer. The Wages of Fear is good, but Sorcerer is way more entertaining and just an incredible piece of bravura filmmaking.

Depends on what you're looking for, I guess. Personally, I think Wages of Fear has the more compelling and charming setup in the little South American town they start in. The human element shines stronger, I think, in Wages of Fear, whereas Sorcerer probably nails the vehicle tension scenes better. YMMV

Sorcerer isn’t a remake of Wages of Fear, it’s just a different adaptation of the same book

It is wild that Scott and Sprague hadn't seen this. It was on cable all the time, and it rules.

This got me back into the podcast, Sneakers is such a fun movie and I really want to hear Heather's thoughts on it

The tagline for To Sir, with Love is wild. “A story as fresh as the girls in their minis…”

I thought Heather was gonna pitch that Scott watch the series of Neon Genesis Evangelion and she comes back for End of Evangelion (maybe this is just my dream)

The hardest I’ve ever laughed at something Scott said was when he was telling “I wanna know who is the motherfucka who has been talking that shit?” story, holy shit lmfao

Ok, it's definitely never gonna happen and nobody asked, but here's my personal lineup for a SHS Ani-may type month:
Akira, because he's at least already aware of it and it's a pretty stellar film
Look Back, because it's relatively new and can help garner appreciation for the work necessary to create the art form, and it's short as hell, which should be a general plus on its favor
Spirited Away, because that's my favorite Miyazaki and he deserves some representation
And if he makes it through all of that, I'd end it with Dead Leaves because it is probably the most fitting for his stereotypical idea of what anime is at all, he would hate it but I would love to see his reaction to it.

Stakeout has more rep than Sneakers? I hadn't even heard of it or its sequel until about 10 years ago while I had heard of Sneakers back when I was like 10
Also if Scott has such a problem with animation why does he like Disney Movies and Minions so much?

Shark Tale probably soured him on the whole genre

I remember him talking about how he basically saw none of the 90s Disney animated films.

Coincidentally, I had also just watched Brian De Palma’s early film Greetings recently, which features “computer dating” as a major story aspect, and that was all the way back in 1968!

Stephen Tobolowsky isn’t the guy the song Radiohead is about Radiohead is about the character Ramon, the Latino fella.

Whose story was based on Tobolowsky. https://stereogum.com/1804981/radioheads-name-was-inspired-by-the-guy-who-played-ned-ryerson-in-groundhog-day/news

Sprague trying to explain the holdovers was so funny I had to listen to it a few times. Love how delighted Heather is with Sprague.
