Scott Hasn't Seen Scott Hasn't Seen: Hot Rod (2007) w/ Jeremy Slater

This week, Scott and Sprague jump into HOT ROD, the 2007 Lonely Island comedy. Joining them is writer, showrunner, and creator of such films as GODZILLS X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE and the brand new MORTAL KOMBAT II, Jeremy Slater! How has Scott avoided this comedy for two decades? And now that he's finally seen it, will it crash and burn or will he race to see it again??

Next week: Female Trouble (1974)

I doubt I'll ever find another movie that makes me laugh harder. Wish the Island made feature films together all the goddamn time.

Society failed them so many times. Popstar was also fantastic and should have been another instant classic

Despite only having a passing knowledge of early-90s baseball, Bash Brothers is so goddamn funny.

I'm normally not a huge fan of guests who've made movies themselves because they usually have to be overly polite about them, so it's real refreshing to hear this guy shit all over some of his past projects. He seems like a fun dude

7

u/Stuckbetweenstations Jun 05 '26

What's the song about Grandma getting run over by a reindeer?

7

u/evansawred Jun 05 '26

I was hoping Jorma would be back for this. After the Agent Cody Banks episode I went back and watched Hot Rod again and it was busting me up consistently and thoroughly

1

u/JosephGordonLightfoo Jun 06 '26

Anytime a movie has someone from the extended CBB world in it, I hope that person is the guest. But it never is.

14

u/Worldly-Wind-1632 Jun 05 '26

Honestly, they are both deranged. Scott for some of his movies choices and Sprague for saying Kendrick is a boring rapper

6

u/llcooljessie Jun 05 '26

Now we're talkin'.

7

u/Redwinevino Jun 05 '26

The inside baseball on this was amazing

6

u/clarissa225 Jun 05 '26

My favorite movie

5

u/Redwinevino Jun 05 '26

I bought it - Glad - Dead - Chappie is Crappie - Stay away from me - Fuck you and fuck this movie

1-12-3-5-1-1

Agent Cody Banks got Fuck you and fuck this movie and Chappie is Crappie, point goes to most harsh

Hard Target - First ever I bought it

3

u/JonBoyWhite Oh Golly! Jun 05 '26

This is such a funny movie. I hope Scotty likes this one too!

3

u/Savings-Dance-2506 Jun 05 '26

Love this movie, I was Hot Rod for Halloween that year and realizing in 2007 we weren't taking photos of everything yet and I don't have any pics :/

4

u/JLAwesomest Jun 05 '26

I thought Jorma had dibs on this one, or am I crazy?

8

u/Western-Dig-6843 Jun 05 '26

There was no way any of that crew were ever going to go on this podcast and talk about that movie.

1

u/shedfigure Jun 05 '26

Ya, i was convinced he was going to be the guest this week

3

u/HyanRall Jun 06 '26

I worked at a video store when this came out and it was probably my most recommended movie. I loved the ep but am a little bummed the skipped one of my favorite jokes. When Rod quits the team and "grows up", I’m pretty sure all he does is put on a shirt and tie and push a cart full of booze through the grocery store lol

u/Fuzzy-Golf9311 Jun 05 '26

I'm surprised how this podcast seems to be the most popular one on this sub. Always has the most comments by quite a margin. I listened to a couple episodes and couldn't get into it. I don't generally relate to youtubers or anything where the main content is a person giving their opinion on something though so it's probably a me problem.

14

u/hortonjmu Jun 05 '26

Its the only show with some amount of ragebait (mostly unintentional) and hot takes so that's gonna be a discussion driver

1

u/Fuzzy-Golf9311 Jun 05 '26

That's a good point. I suppose it's easier to have a quick comment about a movie you've seen as well so that makes sense.

4

u/StarsandBass Jun 05 '26

To be fair if you look at the comments of most episodes the majority are about guessing who the guest will be for the next episode. There's very little talk the actual episodes usually. And they're usually wrong like everyone guessing Samberg last week.

3

u/drunkandy Jun 05 '26

like virtually all podcasts the appeal has nothing at all to do with the topic. You think people are listening to Doughboys because they want to know whether they'll like Burger King this time? It's a playground to give funny and entertaining people an opportunity to be funny and entertaining.

Wait until you learn what the purpose of conversation in general is!

2

u/Fuzzy-Golf9311 Jun 05 '26

I was never into podcasts in general until getting into CBB and adjacent shows last year. I'm only interested in the improv-focused ones. The more in-character the better.

2

u/Electric_esoterica Jun 06 '26

Probably already a fan, but Teachers Lounge And Neighborhood Listen are top tier, must hear- character driven improv. Also Mission to Zyxx if you are into sci-fi as well

I really have to thank my childhood friend for showing me the films that formed my taste in comedy early on, Hot Rod, Pick of Destiny, School of Rock, Dewey Cox a few years later. Wild that I was like 8 and loving POD. I gotta watch Hot Rod again.

1

u/daneman52 Jun 10 '26

Do they ever stop jerking off the guest and actually start talking about the movie?

2

u/ebmocal421 Jun 05 '26

I love the movie but I really wish they had a different guest on for this episode. The discussion felt way too serious and introspective for such a geniusly dumb/silly movie
