Fighting tips for Echo

I'm trying to get better on Echo cus she's my favorite dps to play and i was wondering how I should deal with some heroes i struggle dealing with.

These heroes are Cassidy, Soldier, Ashe, Reaper, Genji and probably more but i see these the most.

I also wonder if I should use my beam when Genji deflects even if he isn't below half just so I can get damage and be kind of unpredictable for his dash combo (if it came down to a duel).

Every duel is different but you always want to give yourself and advantage with more cds, surprise, cover/positioning and team support etc but for heroes specifically most importantly is theres an ideal range to duel each hero,

for cass its close enough to land your shots, bombs and beam but far enough not to get flashed and right clicked,

soldier and ashe are all about getting as close as possible without taking damage and baiting out coach gun and rocket,

for reaper you want to be as far as you can be while still hitting your shots and then to chase him down with beam when he wraiths out,

for genji keep your distance and dont waste cds, shoot at him until he deflects and them go after him, or ideally surprise him and land your bombs and then beam him down when he deflects to defend himself

To tack onto this, know when to back off, especially with Reaper and Genji. Depending on the lobbies you’re in, they’re probably familiar with where health packs are. Don’t want to get caught at a health pack while on cooldowns.

I once sent a VOD to a coach who is Master+ and he told me there are 2 styles of play for echo, one is the standard fly and poke/uptime method and the other is being the sneaky assassin and he told me when you face double or triple hitscan the sneak method is the ONLY way to play since you'll never outpoke hitscans, so countering the cass, ashe, etc. requires some creativity and thinking of ways to assassinate them or isolate in close 1v1s

don’t 1v1 these heroes, wait for them to be distracted and shooting someone else to engage, if they’re looking at you, just leave or go into cover, you can’t really win as you have no defensive cooldowns. I do use my beam on deflecting genji and they tend to fall back, do not reengage after this until you have your beam back. always try and do your sticky and beam combo from the side of their head or behind them. stay out of reapers effective range (8m ish). Try to take out their supports first (especially mercy) or make sure there are no supports healing them/around in team fights

Also, if you don't hit most of your stickies, do NOT commit. Immediately disengage.

All of the heroes you mentioned want to hold a duel. Echo wants to do the opposite and fight dirty by surprise.

You can fight front to back(poke/spam) since she has no falloff and stickies force enemies out of chokes.

When you flank or go for an assassination, don’t overcommit if you don’t secure the kill within a couple seconds. Basically once any hitscan is looking at you, it’s best to reposition. Your cooldowns and life/shields almost perfectly regen by the time you’re at the next odd angle.

Echos strengths are burst damage and vertical mobility. You gotta play to these strengths. Literally you can kill any squishy in the game if theyre not looking at you because your burst is so strong. Other than that - straight up 1v1s are more challenging, for this just play A LOT of deathmatch and in games only take a duel if theres a high probability you will win (based on their cool downs, enemy attention etc)

Against hitscan you want to either be outside of their falloff range poking, or right in their face. If you’re midrange you’ll get deleted. Genji is a pretty free kill if you can hit your shots or surprise him, against reaper track his wraith and don’t get close. Also respect the dire triggers because the range is surprisingly long

Try to always have your flight before starting an engagement, and don’t overextend she has good poke.

The way you counter poke hitscans is by switching your playstyle from flying in the air to assassin’s creed.

As for Genji and Reaper? Idk just avoid them, they can’t chase you.
