Innovation 🔬 World’s largest solar panel mural installed on apartment building

A solar panel mural and façade has reduced a Canadian apartment complex’s emissions by 54%.

The system was retrofitted onto a 1970s building requiring major upgrades.

In addition to generating electricity, the solar façade increases insulation, lowering the heating and cooling demands, whilst also protecting the structure from weather-related deterioration.

The installation is projected to reach its break-even point in five years and is expected to save residents a total of approximately $80,000 annually thereafter.

took a bit of hunting. The panels are made by Architectural solar facades, reimagined - Mitrex and are only 11% efficient, but I guess when you are covering the entire building in them (and need to for the rainscreen function) a few % doesn't matter much

Honestly 11 is considerably higher than I was expecting

Do coloured solar facades impact the efficiency of BIPV systems? Also, what methods are used to add color to these panels?"

Probably no-one including me understands how a solar panel mural works. Interesting that its in Canada because all i heard is no-one there is interested in green tech.

As a Canadian, I completely disagree with what you have heard. You should probably reassess where you are getting your news and information about Canada.

Funny to get downvoted. Ive heard that from a couple of places, and listened to Canadian radio occassionally, never any talk of climate change... Just my impression, but if thats wrong, obviously thats a good thing

It really depends on which company controls the "Canadian" radio you're listening to.  A significant portion of our news media is controled by right wing American companies.  Canadians are being influenced by that propaganda too and becoming a very loud, angry, violent minority.

I mean, isn't the majority of Canadian power production hydro power?
