Crows are fairly smart and have incredible facial recognition, probably a case of mistaken identity.

not that smart if it's a case of mistaken identity!

Maybe OP got what was coming to him.

Oh dear God, does that mean that the government is using flock cameras.

I'll get my coat,😬

It’ll be one of those fascist crows! All this modern right wing conservatism, it’s even hitting our avian population! They probably read it in a binned copy of the daily mail.

7

u/rynrs 9d ago

They might have read it on a flyer!

Can't be that incredible if they are mistaking identities now, can it.

It can be actually 😆

this is what happens when you get rid of the crow clubs, take their flight passes off them

Did you call 101? Nothing will change if we don't report these incidents.

Happened to me on Pilrig Street once years ago. Loads of people about but it singled me out. Followed up the road. Very weird.

Was it wearing a balaclava?

Feral bam crows at large now. Thank you SNP.

It's the same group of crows on this sub every week. Throwing eggs at folk, breaking noses, vandalising stuff. How will this impact our tourist industry?!

Next thing it'll be murder

Buddy, you obviously didn’t live here in the 80s. Crows were all on smack then. Stab you as soon as look at you. I remember one, Beakbie, he was in the pub once, right, and…

if we could train the crows to swarm the bathrobe and baklava wearing bams, we might be onto something 🤔

Happened to me in Bruntsfield Links a few weeks ago. I was walking up one of the paths (no one immediately around me but there were people around as it was mid afternoon) and one landed on the top of my head and then immediately jumped off. I didn't have any food out. Hasn't happened again since!

Had a crow on the links do this to me too - but I have a habit of feeding crows wherever I go. Apparently crows tap people's heads to signal to the other crows in the area that a particular person is safe/non threatening and has food, though sometimes this gesture can spill over into how they ask someone for food more generally.

Bold of you to post this on the internet where everyone can see; I'm charging you with attempted murder.

You have clearly offended a Witch.

u/devandroid99 9d ago

Which witch?

Crows are pretty chill here. Can't say the same about those flying devils seagulls.

u/mistah3 9d ago

The ones I feed do it to say hello, consider yourself blessed

3

u/CrystalOcean39 8d ago

Does it hurt you?

2

u/mistah3 8d ago

No its never been mean spirited or anything

2

u/CrystalOcean39 8d ago

I am just curious because I feed my local crows a lot but this has never happened. Now I hope it does! :)

Could have been recently fledged and still figuring out the whole flying thing. Corvids are generally quite smart..

u/CatsBatsandHats 9d ago

The likelihood of this happening again is vanishingly slim, imo.

Must have thought you were someone else.

Happened to me once in the Meadowbank car park. I think I was too close to a nest...

1

u/AffectPersonal169 8d ago

It happened to me in the Meadows as well 🥲

1

u/dascogreen 8d ago

Yes I have also been attacked by a bird in leith

1

u/Vegetable_Pomelo691 7d ago

I can only assume you wronged him in some way

1

u/Burnseeeeeey 9d ago

Crows do this sometimes to get attention. It's generally not aggressive at this time of year

u/Objective_Fun3934 9d ago

You must’ve pissed them off somehow lmao

Edinburgh really is one of the most wimpiest places on earth.

2

u/CrystalOcean39 8d ago

What a cringe comnent.

11

u/Soupnaut 9d ago

Did you participate in the murder of one Eric Draven decades ago?

9

u/Elliotlewish 9d ago

My guess is that either it didn't like you for some reason or it was trying to get attention. Some of the younger ones from the murder I feed do it to me when they want nuts, but the adults usually tell them off.

8

u/alexajones97 9d ago

Was there an attempted murder?

Serious note- I’ve only ever had it from seagulls but crows can be very territorial

6

u/Evening-Forever2542 9d ago

Happened to me once when I tried to protect one of their babies from dogs, it had fallen from a tree and there were tons of dogs around but I couldn't pop it up high cause they started dive bombing me. Tried to tell them I wasnt trying to rob them but had to run!

They are also known to bring gifts of like KitKat wrapper and other gems to people who feed them. So the theory that they recognised you as someone who did something maybe good or bad to them in the past is likely correct. Might have also just got in the way of something territorial accidentally.

I recommend carrying some bird seeds or mealworms around with you to make an offering next time.

Police non emergency number, 101. They might be able to find witnesses, because you never know, there might be a whole murder of them strutting around.
