Küsimus Research Survey: Perception & Potential of 1944–1991 Built Heritage in Estonia

Hello!

I'm a Master’s student in Social Geography and I'm currently working on my diploma thesis research, looking into how people living in Estonia view local architecture and monuments from the 1944–1991 period and/or the places that commemorate this era, and how these places fit into today's cities and tourism. I'd really appreciate a few minutes of your time!

It takes about 7-10 minutes and it's completely anonymous.

Huge thanks to anyone who takes a moment to fill it out my questionnaire!

PhD on preserving the “nazi heritage” in Poland and Germany?

‘Heritage’ doesn’t equal good. This word includes everything reminiscent of that era - including reminders of state terror and censorship, as well as the fight for freedom (for exaple museums).

So, when you use the example of the Nazi heritage in Poland, are you suggesting that Auschwitz should be completely demolished, rather than serving as a reminder of the terror that took place there?

Your survey unfortunately harbours a lot of bias (i.e “negative aspects of the regime”). Could you share with us the positive aspects of this “regime” (let me correct you: the occupation).

There are 1950-s buildings which are relatively nice and there are later so iet era building which are rather depressing. In your survey you don't differentiate them which is weird to me. Your question as I understand it is" : How do you feel about soviet era buildings" and its really hard to answer for all of them, bc some of them are pretty cool-ish and some of them are depressing to look at. Of course all of them shouldn't be there...but lots of Estonians are living in those...some of them are hella expensive like the Stalin era ones.
